It's definately a combination of interest, curiosity and retainability.. I got them all right, but I love playing quiz games like, Trivial Pursuit - and doing crossword puzzles 😊 Are Europeans smarter? probably not, but we have the opportunity to be informed through the media, about Europe as a whole (EU policies, economics, weather systems; which affect us all) Whereas in the USA, the media (mainly) informs about what is happening in the country from Alaska to Florida...and less about the world in general Education is also different, bc the European continent has been intertwined, since the beginning of time and all the countries have influenced on each other... Romans in Britain, Huns in Eastern Europe, Maurs in Spain, Vikings in Constantinople, and all the wars/marriages through the centuries ..we 'know' a little more about each other. Good to see you, Bryson 👋 hello from Denmark 🌸 🌱

I am from Danmark. Many years ago I played Counter Strike, and I was in a clan. One evening I sat and had a social talk with "Bear" from our clan, a guy from the UK, about the same age as myself. He asked me where I learned to speak English. I told him I learned it in the public school and that I also learned German there. He went silent, and I asked, "are you still here?" Yeah, he answered, I am just wondering what we learn in the UK that you don't, since you have learned two languages. Off course, he learned a lot of British history, but I also learned a lot of Danish history. We discussed it all night, we couldn't find out any real differences, and it's still a mystery for me to this day. BTW, it's still mandatory with two languages in Danmark. They start with English from the first year, and I think they start with a second language in 3rd or 4th grade. The second language is often German, but some do choose French.

One of the things going around on TikTok right now about this, is how americans keep saying that the US is bigger than Europe. But what they actually mean is that the US is bigger than the EU, which is not the same as Europe. Also another one going around right now is also about size of the US compred to Europe, how driving from west to wast coast is around 5k km, and would take I don’t remember how long, but a certain amount of time. But for Europe instead pf doing the same «coast-coast» they decside that its logically to start in Paris, more in the middle of europe, and going west is only around 2k km. And its a stupid distance to compare. Going from Norskapp Norway to Sicilia Island in the south of Italy is also a little over 5k km. Or as many mentione going from Portugal to the north of Finland also would show how big Europe is. Its just things like that, as well as all the «American Tourist in the Wild» stories, that give americans a bad rep. But hopefully most people also know that a few people do not necessarily represent all. I believe that you will find dumb and smart people everywhere, no matter what country you are in.
@lonestardeluxe36772 жыл бұрын
Intelligence and knowledge isn’t the same thing. I don’t think americans are less intelligent, but probably knows less. Maybe because USA is such a large country, so they don’t find it nessesary to know a lot about anything but them self. Where as other countries are more obvious to the interactions needed between the countries around the world. Just the fact that many americans only speak one language, where as most people in not- englishspeaking countries speaks at least two languages. The quiz isn’t that well made. Take the question about the Vatican. There are several definitions on what makes a country, which was not defined in the question. Or the mile? There are miles many places in the world. So do they ask for an american mile, or maybe a norwegian mile? In the beginning of this video you said, that you have learned a lot about other countries making videos etc. You are absolutely right. Your interest in learning about other countries makes you everything but naive and ignorant - as the stereotype american could be. I really love your channel for that!

In Europe (i'm from Spain) we learned about ancient greek and ancient Roman history. We (as a cauldron of nations) have a very rich history and we are proud of it. We, as an international conglomerate, are very proud of our history. And as an European (to an extent) I have to learn about basic Polish history, it's amust. Geography is another big topic for me. Learning a 2nd language is a big topic in Europe (even a third or fourth), here, in Spain, children beguin learning English at the age of 3. And we generaly have a free or nearly free colege education system (in Spain you have to pay 500€ to 1500€ per year). Higher taxes is a good thing, I'm proud of paying taxes because we have free education, free healthcare, and much more social benefits. I'm Canadian, and have travelled extensively in my life, and no, Americans are not any less intelligent than others. That would actually be impossible because of the large, genetically diverse population of the US. However, many Americans seem not only to be ignorant of the world, but take immeasurable pride in that ignorance. There are so many examples of how Americans when confronted with something they don't know running to conspiracy sites instead of actually admitting they don't know and listening to people who spent years becoming actual experts. This is the real issue. This channel gives me hope.

Genetic diversity shouldn’t have an impact, I think you meant cultural diversity. Conspiracies come from a lack of trust in the government which I see as a corruption problem. It doesn’t help when major scandals and actual conspiracies sometimes are true, which makes many people less trusting. For example, WaterGate Scandal, the Gulf Of Tonkin Incident, The War on Terror, and The War on Drugs have all been very misdirected. Also we have large pockets of isolated communities throughout the country, like in the middle of America where there was a lot of cult activity, and people view local community as more trustworthy sources over the government. Personally I think many conspiracies are dumb; people honestly believe the gov would spend 30 billion to fake going to the moon instead of the military?

I can understand that argument and believe there are people who feel there's no reason to learn about other cultures or countries. Why? Because they should be learning about us. I think it's more like having blinders on. Our news and so much else is only about the USA and very little is "world news" or about important things happening in other countries. Most of our "world news" ends up being about what bad things other countries are doing and war. That only fuels the thought of only caring about the USA. I got three wrong (technically only one). I'd had pushed the bell and answered China to the question of the currency 'Yen' but when you, Bryson, said 'Wan' I second guessed it but too late. The second wrong was the Giraffe, my guess was a purple tongue. The third one was the end of the Cold War - which officially ended in 1991 with the fall of the Soviet Union (not 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down - that was just the instigator). Also, I've never heard the term 'Black Plague' but only the 'Black Death' or 'Bubonic Plague' or just 'The Plague'. Funnily, the word 'quarantine' comes from the Italian word for '40'... in Venice they put presumed plague victims on an isolated island and if they were alive and well after 40 days then they could enter the city.

@@gerdahessel2268 Intelligence is not the same as knowledge. Knowledge is merely the sum of things you have been taught or learned. Intelligence is the ability to use that knowledge to infer a result without having been explicitly taught it. For example, I can be taught what numbers are, how they relate to one another, their sequence of increasing value, and how to add two numbers together. When being taught how to add, I would have been given very basic examples. I was never taught what the result of 2367 + 835 is, but intellectually I know how to calculate the answer 3202 even though that was almost certainly never explicitly taught to me.
