I would argue that it’s ok to put a couple outdoors if you get them in spring y1 if you aren’t going the joja route because you can have a fully grown plant make several fruits and start the greenhouse with a dozen seeds vs just one.

Correction: starting from 1.6, ancient seeds are not longer sold by the traveling merchant. Also, seed makers have a low chance of giving you an ancient seed regardless of what you put in it. I've seen speedrunners put a ton of blueberries in the seed makers to get started on ancient fruits.

Thanks for looking out for me. I just first saw the error about the travellign cart, then the error about the seed maker so i wrote the comment in order without taking the "post 1.6" into account

As someone who can be very forgetful, it helps that the consistent seven days to regrow helps me plan better. Just gotta remember which day of the week they’re ready for harvest and I can plan from there.

What i love about ancient fruit is the 1:1 keg ratio and then it actually feeds into casks well too as you need iirc 7 casks to each plant, as it takes 8 weeks to produce iridium wine so when your first batch ends you have room to place that weeks wine batch in the freshly emptied barrels. This will take some of the feeling of waiting away once you pass that first 2 season spool up time and you'll be shipping 7 iridium ancient fruit wine weekly from then on, the biggest downside is that 2 season wait and the cellar doesn't hold very many casks, less than a full iridium sprinklers worth of crops infact.

yep, the only con with ancient fruit.. that is time, for me tho, i enjoy playing the game and aint speedrunning smth like "perfection by year 2" xD so im fine, got my its my first year, third playthru the farthest ive gotten in winter of year 1, rn am at fall year 1, got my one ancient seed growing thru summer and fall on the farm, lets see when i get the seedmaker and im probably not getting the greenhouse until next year so, ill wait, altho... i did buy almost every rare seed there was in the travelling cart, 20 of them, and am about make some good profit 😈 😂

Seems a little unfair to Starfruit to not factor in fertilizer or professions, as with max speed-gro and with tiller they regrow every 7 days, so they're the same speed as ancient fruit without the month it takes for the original growth and more profit per harvest. It'd be cool to see a video like this one for hops, as I'm pretty sure those are the actual highest value crop in the game with kegs.

Let's compare a starfruit farmer with an optimal layout on their farm, I'm talking junimo hut, nozzled iridium sprinklers, raisins the the junimo huts etc. they have tiller/artisan and use deluxe speed grow. Junimo hut covers 283 squares including their own spaces, you only need 4 pressurized iridium sprinklers in that space so you have 279 spaces to work with. Let's just assume that both individuals have enough sheds/kegs to process their harvests as well for simplicity sake. Compare that to an Ancient fruit farmer with a similar optimal layout. Per year, the starfruit farmer will be able to harvest 3 harvests of starfruit vs the ancient fruit putting out 10 harvests with deluxe speedgrow/tiller. 3 x 279= 837 total starfruit harvests, X1.2 for junimos = 1,004.4, let's round up to 1005 starfruit 10 x 279= 2,790 total ancient fruit harvests, X1.2 for junimos = 3,348 ancient fruit. Starfruit wine is worth 3,150 assuming artisan so 1,005 X 3,150 = 3,165,750 per year on average versus Ancient fruit wine is worth 2,310 assuming artisan, so 3,348 X 2,310 = 7,733,880 per year. With seed costs of 334,800 per year for the starfruit farmer, that pulls the total profit down per year to 2,830,950. Starfruit gives a much lower profit margin than ancient fruit, and sure, there's the argument to be made that you could use your greenhouse too, but comparatively, it's worth far far more to use your greenhouse to produce ancient fruit that you turn into seeds via the seed maker so you can plant as soon as it becomes spring. The only 2 situations where Starfruit outpaces ancient fruit are 1- if you're willing to do a ton of work and start planting them inside big sheds inside garden pots with deluxe retaining soil, or 2- a speedran early game where you unlock the desert before summer year 1 as you wouldn't have enough time to build up ancient fruit prior to that

@@Engreth564 Yes, ancient fruit is clearly better on the main farm because it can be grown for three seasons compared to starfuit's one, but on the island or in the greenhouse starfruit is more profitable, which is where it becomes more up to the individual which they'd rather use

@@yoppyyoppy6794 Oh absolutely, though in my personal experience (No I am not willing to, nor do I know how to do the math on the probabilities of finding ancient seeds from bugs or digging up artifact spots/how many the average player might run into, but this is more my experience speaking) I find it more beneficiary at least in the first couple of years, probably from year 2 to 3 depending on how early you get ancient fruit versus how early you unlock the desert, to have ancient fruit planted in the greenhouse, simply because you're still building up enough fruit to make a large scale farm. Like let's be honest. Me or you ain't gonna stop at one, two, or even three junimo huts and you're gonna need a LOT of seeds for that, considering that you can fairly comfortably fit up to 7 junimo huts (1,953 tiles, yikes) onto the standard farm (Though I normally stop at 6 to leave more room for sheds) so having ancient fruit producing for your first few winters to build up seeds is a huge leapfrog boost. Then again, lets be even more honest. When you're talking the kinds of profits per year you'd get from either ancient fruit or starfruit with that many junimo huts, it hardly matters. What're you gonna buy with that amount of money? 'Oh hi Mayor Lewis, I tried Starfruit this year, bad choice. I could only afford 8 ENTIRE GOLDEN CLOCKS instead of 10 this year. How's your statue project going?' lmao

at a Certain Point Money becomes irrelevant. Usually by the time you're set up for Aging stuff you have so much Money that aging stuff is just a nice Bonus. I prefer Ancient Fruit because I just put piles of Blueberry into the seed Makers until I get enough then I never have to touch them again. with 1.6 you could do Mushroom Logs and Dehydrators and make tons of money pretty fast.

Well you have enough money for most things but lategame there are certain money sinks The wizard buildings and certain QI special orders are the 2 that come to mind. If you want perfection you have to afford all the obelisks and the golden clock which is why most people want lategame money farms with kegs, theyre not worried about affording their iridium tool upgrades and house upgrades

Whenever I play SV, I play more to relax than to grind money in that game. Just sit back with some snacks and enjoy the relaxing music. I'm mostly growing multiple crops at the same time, adding to the plethora of food items I have (cooking mod). I keep the greenhouse as a money making business. But it was good to know regardless, the comparison between ancient and star fruit.

One moment please. If you want to keg them all, quality does not matter. So speed-grow fertilizer will change the whole equation drasticly. While speed grow will only affect the first 28-day phase of ancient fruits, you can only squeze out one additional harvest per YEAR. So you get from 3*4=12 to 13 harvests which is an increase of 8,3%. However for starfruits it can be an increase from 2 to 3, so a 50% increase! If you want to use this in the green house or the island, it is even better for the starfruit. Since the growing time reduction is only applied once to the ancient fruit, the more time passes, the less efficient it will get. However it is possible to reduce the growtime of starfruits to 8 days. Usually in one year (112 days) you can only harvest 8 times. Now you can harvest 14 times. So if you consider the whole year, you will get 75% more starfruits. It is also easier to maintain, since you produce overall less crops per field with a higher value, therefore reducing the workload. So for the green house and the island, I'll recommend starfruits. For the farm it is still the best to plant ancient fruits, because the alternatives for spring and fall are realy bad.

I'm lazy so I do ancient fruit in the green house. While its not full I do strawberries too until I've filled the greenhouse with ancient fruit. I do starfruit at too once I've unlocked the farm at ginger island. My current play through I got super lucky and got an ancient fruit seed from putting a strawberry in the seed maker.

Ancient friuit also has the benefit that you can plant them outside in seasons other than summer, so you can have more than the greenhouse’s worth of crops in both summer and fall, since it takes all spring to mature.

There is a couple things no one seems to take into account (there are a number of these videos on this topic.) 1) In your case you calculate without use of speed grow, you can have 3 harvests per season. 2) You need 1 keg per 2 star fruit but one per ancient seed. This means given a limited number of tiles, you have to spend half of them for kegs if you go ancient seeds, but only 1/3 will be wasted on kegs if you go star fruit. (I know you can put kegs outside the farm, but given you can fill your farm with sheds the outside space is negligible, it will be 10% of your farm.) 3) 120 tiles of the greenhouse are not a significant part of your economy. You can't plant ancient fruits in sheds. This means you can plant 137/21 = 6.5 times more star fruits in a shed per ancient fruit you plant on your farm directly. 4) Ancient fruits (except for ginger island and greenhouse) only grown 2.5 months of the three (with speed grow) but starfruits can be planted year round in sheds. that's 8/5. 5) New patch ancient fruit can be harvested by raisin crazed juniors, that does add a 1.2 = 6/5 multiplier in its favor. So the total would be 264/235 * 4/3 (harvest per season) * 2/3 (keg to plant ratios) *2/13 (for planting in shed) * 8/5(growth seasons per year) *6/5 (junimo bonus.) = 22528/76375 ~ .29. Ancient fruit's profit is less than 1/3ed of starfruit's. but replanting it is annoying!

As soon as I unlocked my Greenhouse I had an ancient seed it was lucky timing. I'm in year four of my very first playthrough I have a greenhouse full of ancient fruit and ginger Island also my main Farm I have junimos and they do seasonal veggies so I can start chipping away at the achievements for cooking and harvesting

Why don't you take the total time to get the money of star fruit wine? 13 days to grow and 7 days to convert it into wine? Ancient fruit just takes 14 days in total, while star fruit takes 20 days in total

Now with the iridium scythe, the seedmakers with a low chance for ancient seeds and so on I would say that they are undoubtedly better than starfruit. In 1.5 you could have took Starfruit seeds and nearly waste no time because you were able to plant the seeds and get the starfruit at the same time and you do it for every tile, but now you have to replant all the seeds together now after harvesting all of them (or you do it without iridium scythe, but…)

Here's a simple solution. Grow both Starfruit and Ancient Fruit. As well as any other crop that makes profit.

You make it sound like ancient fruit is the "more hardcore" route, but that is completely wrong anyway. Ancient fruit is the casual choice and the lazier method. By the time you have enough seeds to make a dent in your wallet, you will have stocked up on enough starfruit to have on standby for kegs/casks to carry you to buy most everything anyway. To the title of the video I would say they are worth it, though you make a different discussion happen in the video itself, and you make it seem like it holds a candle to starfruit spam when it absolutely doesn't lol

I always get my ancient seeds from the bugs in tge caverns. Gonon a lucky day and plow through the bugs in the first 20 floors. I always have my first AF seed in the second week.

Im not a pro but starfruit wine wins profit wise, forever, with speed grow fertilizer. A better contest would be ancient fruit vs sweet gem berries. Once again, profit-wise, starfruit wine>>>ancient fruit wine. Cuz math.

What if you use Hyper Speed-go? Then I believe it's 9 days per starfruit, so x3 per season, I get eventually it'll be surpassed by Ancient fruit but its a long time I would imagine. I didn't do the math at all.

I made Qi wines from planting those Qi beans to get Qi fruits. Then I aged them all up in the cellar. Is it worthwhile? Should I continue doing it? Or should I stop?

Since Qi fruit is worth very little, the aged wine it makes will not sell for very much at all.
