Apple Watch can track calories, activity and whole bunch of things but can it be trusted, is it accurate? In this video, I try to explain how it works, how you can make it more useful and precise and of course, it all applies to every series of Apple Watch.
Hope it helps.

Please remember: if the error is large but normally distributed, it cancels itself out over time. That is, if the error sometimes estimates more and sometimes less calories than real calories spent, over time the bigger and smaller errors will cancel itself out

Does Activity Background App Refresh need to be on for accuracy? Or, is that just for communication with iPhone? Meaning that the watch will still be just as accurate if it's Off? thank you.

do you have to be wearing apple watch for it to track calories burned when not wearing it? Does it include the thermic effect of food burnt too or just bmr + excercise? I think everyone burns 10% calories trying to digest their food.

There is one thing that really confuse me from personal experience, what I notice is that if do some activity without playing the workout app the amount of calories calculated by the watch is far much less than if you do the same activity while the workout app is on. I have even tried to play the workout app when I’m lying down on the bed it says that I have burned 40 calories in 10 mins, while without it says that I burned only 5 calories in 15 mins. My conclusions is that the number in workout app is made up, I hope you have explanation of this as it drives me crazy😂

That’s not the case, in order to accurately calculate the calories, we need to select the right workout (only when you are actually doing the workout). When you select a workout even when you are not doing it, it takes an approximation of your basal calorie expenditure while walking.

@parsonsmarcus
@parsonsmarcus Жыл бұрын
@@anthony37860 absolutely! Mohammed, this is the biggest factor towards calculating calories burned because it has a limited set of data to go on. If it tracked the heart rate more often, the calories burned would be more accurate; however, the watch would also be required to charge much sooner than expected, which is why they limited it.

It over estimates for me. But I’m ok with that! So for 1 month of use tracking all calories burned with the Apple Watch. Tracking all calories in as honest and accurate as possible with My Plate by live strong: Calorie deficit= -52723 Actual Weight lost= 11.4lbs Obviously it’ll work out different for everyone. But it was consistent through the month. So instead of looking at a lb as 3500 calories, I look at a lb as 4625 “Apple Watch” calories. Works for me and as I said that stayed consistent.
@QueenPcontrolstheuniverse
@QueenPcontrolstheuniverse Жыл бұрын
I have a similar calorie deficit as you which was 66176 and I lot 7.3kg which is 16.31 lb and for that amount of calories I should have lost 19lb so it is a bit over estimating, I agree. in my case 15% which is not as bad as most watches tbf

Question: does Apple Watch track/estimate your resting calories? Because I charge it each night and don’t wear it. So how will it calculate a total number without tracking the ones I burn while asleep?
@Kingsley4K

Watches don’t really need to actually “track” anything to give you a BMR / resting calories estimate. It’s all pre-estimated based on sex, age, weight, and height.

Doesn't really give any information about how accurate the Apple Watch tracks calories. Just a short comment, "there are some studies that the Apple Watch is 60% more accurate than other trackers." There is no source to that claim, and moreover: It still wouldn't tell us how accurate the watch is. The whole video unfortunately is just a claim, that the Apple Watch tracks calories accurately, without any evidence or source to back any of it up.

The biggest thing makes me chuckle is that the watch says I have stood up for 15 hours today… I literally work from home. You think I am standing for 15 hours a day? I have done all the troubleshooting steps already and nothing had worked.
@foxtecc
@foxtecc Жыл бұрын
Okay I need to address this. 15 hours of stand doesn’t meen you’ve been on your feet for 15 hours straight. It means that from, let’s say 6am till 8pm, during each hour that passed, you at least stood up once. It’s there to make sure people don’t sit all the time. If you don’t stand up during one hour, you don’t earn an hour in your stand (blue) ring. Hope I explained it well and thanks for watching!

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the average adult woman expends roughly 1,600 to 2,400 calories per day, and the average adult man uses 2,000 to 3,000 calories per day. With that being said just by watching this video we burned some calories lol.... So Apple Watch DOES NOT accuratly track how many calories you burn throughout the day.
