I'm your brother from Nigeria. When I meet a Ghanaian for the first time, it never occurs to me to think "is this person Ewe, Asanti, Gah, Fante" etc .... because I see you all as Ghanaians. I live in the Uk and I can assure you that when a European meets an African ....... they don't automatically think "Is he Gambian, Nigerian, Kenyan, Zambian" etc. They see us all as Africans. However, when we get into our country groups, that were imposed on us by European through colonisation, we like to separate ourselves and become discriminatory against one another. This is crazy and we need to realise that we are one race of people. There is more that joins us together than separates us.

In Ghana everybody talks down or troll other tribes sometimes yet when it is an Asante doing it then it is tribalism... It's understandable as history explains this for those who have researched well enough. Accra Mall was spearheaded by an Asante man, same with AnC Mall, but when Kumasi Mall was erected, the whole country went into a frenzy, trolling Kumasianos left right centre.... How can the group with the stats of most individuals travelled abroad be scared of elevators and escalators? People don't even understand the word "tribalism" anymore cuz the average Ghanaian including most intellectuals hate to read and learn. I am Asante and I have had to defend and argue for my nativity from JHS all through to my SHS days just because someone takes fun in trolling you at the least chance....and when you defend hard and return gesture you re tagged tribalistic cuz we re indomitable....Even my Fante English tutor who pronounced every "L" as "R" (crass for class, crap for clap) used to make fun of the Asante's L and R defect .. yet all Akan speaking people have that mother tongue defect. Ghallywood wouldn't work with Kofi Asamoah cuz he was "that Kumasi boy" but the Asante in him wouldn't allow him bow out..and he gave them a show down and prospered, achieving what most hadn't right under their noses in Accra city.. He was denied jobs so the Kumasi boy established his own production "KOFAS" and the rest was a legacy made...when success came they were all took interest in working with him lol..(typical attitude of Gold coasters, they love easy chops but aren't humble enough nor enterprising enough no wonder their forefathers sided with the colonial master)... What didn't they say when Despite set up the first solely Twi speaking station? They called it nkurasifo) station...Today there re more than 10 in Accra alone and the Gas re lamenting about how Twi has dominated their region.. What don't they say about us.... shoe shine boys, L and R, illiterates, ahabanmufo, cocoa ase nkurasifo), kalabule , criminals, Ghana's problem, arrogant, suckers at fashion, dark dwarfs, Kumasi is dirty (yet Accra the capital floods at the least rain) etc yet we just don't care..There is Galamsey in well about 14 out of the 16 regions yet it is Otumfour and his Asanteman that is being constantly lashed out for it meanwhile the same people say Otumfour is no king; no king of Ghana! ..and a wise man will wonder why Otumfour is to blame when all the over 10 gov't institutions in charge of our mineral resources' proprietorship, oversight, monitoring coupled with the security forces who all run on the tax payers' money including royalties from mining companies can't handle the canker. Does this make sense? Northerners esp Dagombas refer to us as "Kabonga" ( people with the gun) but we don't take offence....we refer to them as "Ntafo)" (twins) and yet that is tribalism...Meanwhile I have people from other tribes disrespect Northerners and it is not much of a problem till an Asante says the harmless word "Tanii" 😂.. smh.. Asantehene's mansion project in Accra in the 2000s caused a whole demonstration from some locals....they claimed he was building his palace in Accra when Accra isn't within his jurisdiction...is he not Ghanaian with a right to property ownership in any part of Ghana? same with Kuffour's office building brouhaha..some Ga folks wouldn't allow and went on demonstration thanks to some politicians... Kumasi Sports Stadium was renamed "Baba Yara" and not one single objection was raised... Pls did the Gas allow the change from Accra Sports Stadium to "Ohene Gyan " ? Outcries here and there objecting to it..sign boardss dismantled by some irate Ga youth...and "Ohene Gyan" never happened... Kwame Nkrumah attracted the fury of Ghanaians and was ousted with jubilation coupled with the vandalization of everything monumental about him especially in ACCRA yet Asantes are blamed today for his overthrow.. Accra had the most civil actions and demonstrations against Nkrumah's gov't in the build up to his overthrow but Asantes are now the culprits of Nkrumah's downfall... Wow 😂.. Too many literal examples yet Asantes are tribalistic just because we got sharp mouths (but harmless) and wouldn't allow ourselves to be bullied by anyone (not even the white man)..but it's normal....most of us Ghanaians are timid and feel exposed when we see people with a sense of pride, accomplishments and grace...We tag them too known or arrogant...Sarkodie is a testimony to this yet he is the most successful artiste by far in his generation ..Sark raps in Twi they say as though it's a crime yet all their wannabe disingenuous local rappers never went international are in oblivion...Sark has gone international with his Twi and won BETs 😂... Anyway no tribe has indulged in inter tribal marriage than Asantes and there is stats to support that...no wonder we re that populous. And I can tell you boldly that, every household, family and tribe, all have that tribe(s) they hold stereotypes about as far marriage is concerned and wouldn't want their folks marry from...so why is Asante singled out? In my family all four us thus myself and siblings are married/dating people from different tribes, Ewe, Akuapem, Bono and myself a Dagaati girl. Let them keep hating...we will keep soaring high in grace .. Envy doesn't pay. Open the books and learn what tribalism entails. A poor man thinks every rich man is arrogant or criminal. It's just how life is so choose which one you want to be 🙏🏾

It’s really sad. I’m an Ghanaian that grew up in Nigeria. I lived on Irebawa street Oke-Ira, Ogba, Lagos State. I’m an Asante that grew up in Nigeria where all the Ghanaians are one in my area. When my mother cooks everyone comes to eat, and I grew up eating at their houses. Even though we all spoke Twi & the Ewes, Gas, Fantes and Northerner spoke their languages it wasn’t until I was 16 upwards I realized ohh Ghana is divided into different states just like Nigeria. I thought Ghana was just one country we all came from. I didn’t even know the tribalism here is this sad. My parents and parents of my other Ghanaian friends didn’t instill any sort of tribalism in us.
@blackmagic6Ай бұрын
@@kiv_daniels: Thank you for sharing. Tribalism is like racism, it is not something that we are born with ..... but something that we acquire and develop over time. Like what was said in this video, many people inherit the biases of our parents and elders. However, what you said is very true. When Africans live outside of their country we tend to group together and tribalism is greatly reduced ...... because we quickly realise that what joins us together is more important than what separates us. At the end of the day, a lot of the tribalism was exacerbated by colonialism because when the Europeans came in they grouped countries without caring about the people and their history before they grouped us together. All they cared about was land. I always thought that I was totally Nigerian. About five years ago, I had some spare cash and decided to do an Ancestry DNA test. When the results came back, I was shocked to find that I was only 71% Nigerian and 29% from Benin and Togo. When I thought about it, it made sense because my ethnic group is Yoruba and Yorubas exist in Benin and Togo but we were split up by colonisation. In the North of Nigeria the Hausa people are the same people as the people from South Niger. In East Nigeria our people are the same as those from Western Cameroon. The White man caused us a lot of problems in Africa but we are one people.
@kiv_danielsАй бұрын
@@blackmagic6 We’re one people oo. Sometimes years of migration causes slight differences. Yes, most of us raised outside tend to have a different mindset because when I came to school in Ghana, I would find myself in groups of people who were not from my tribe because I don’t care about that tribalism stuff, someone would just ask me if I was an Asante for no reason and it was until later that I realized “ohh regardless of me being a decent human being they’re going to judge me based on me being an Asante”. And frankly as I got to know more about the different regions in Ghana, I realized our only problem is that we’re proud of our heritage, if we’re proud of our heritage why don’t they go and be proud of theirs as well. Asantes are very accommodating, we have communities and settlements established since the 17th century populated mainly by people of other tribes like no other place in Ghana for example Moshie Zongo, Awonaga junction, most of the people around the Manhyia palace are not Asantes, yet these people use the slightest opportunity to show their hatred.

@@kiv_daniels: Judging from this video and various comments that I'm reading, the Asante ethnic group is heavily mentioned. In your opinion, what is the reason for this? What KT blah, blah said is the least of the Tribalism brouhaha, the influence of mother tongue on the English language is everywhere. Asantes stand out because most of them have placed themselves up there: they feel unnecessarily superior! Most Asantes feel entitled. That's the fact! Northerners are usually tagged and stereotyped. The gospel of UNITY IN DIVERSITY needs to be propagated.

The “aboa” is what we all know to be an insult and that doesn’t necessarily imply tribalistic attitude towards them. Conflicts happen and people float insults, it’s human nature…..deal with it

Our orientation (tribe, culture, beliefs, religion, knowledge or education etc) normally sets us to be unconscious bias. Everybody is someway somehow unconscious bias even if you’re very much aware of it. It’s engrained in our subconscious minds. And people shouldn’t be misled - minorities always feel suppressed or oppressed. Ashantis just like Nigerians know how to talk (hype or project their own) and that is sometimes misconstrued as belittling the other tribes. If you don’t learn to write or tell your stories, others will. Learn from the Asantes. No tribe in Ghana suffers ridiculing than the Asantes yet they don’t even complain. People must be educated.

Don’t other tribes do the same? All other tribes do the same because when I came to school in Ghana, I would find myself in groups of people who were not from my tribe because I don’t care about that tribalism stuff, someone would just ask me if I was an Asante for no reason and it was until later that I realized “ohh regardless of me being a decent human being they’re going to judge me based on me being an Asante”. And frankly as I got to know more about the different regions in Ghana, I realized our only problem is that we’re proud of our heritage, if we’re proud of our heritage why don’t they go and be proud of theirs as well.

I don't understand at all... People always saying Ashantis do this do that but that one is normal. If an Ashanti portray him/herself in a way he want people to take him for, that one too is a problem. Why can't people leave us alone. We have towns in Ashanti region that belongs to people from other tribes like the Zongos, Fante New Town, Anloga, even Adum but but people always accuse us because the feel for themselves inferior. No one build for you a superior mindset. It is up to you to let people regard you as mighty as you want. LEAVE US ALONE.
@ltmagirl87Ай бұрын
First you need to ask yourself why so many tribes have issues with your tribe…it’s called self reflection…has there been a time where your tribesmen disrespected other tribes in a way where it wasn’t warranted? Have you yourself ever disrespected a tribe unprovoked? Because if all these other tribes have something to say about your tribe, then you can’t play the victim card by acting oblivious as though you never contributed in any tribal disputes… The notion of other tribes feeling inferior is soo tired and needs to be retired…let’s come up with another vocabulary… Lastly, having all these tribal communities in your region, doesn’t take away whether or not you’re tribalistic…accra has all tribes living there and quite a number of zongo communities too…but we don’t see GAs bragging on that…same for other tribes… Once again, self-reflection and accountability will help us all move forward…if one refuses to change from their tribal ways, then that’s on them 🤷🏾♀️

Did you say inferior? You people keep building a smoke that will engulf you one day. Do you know the number of people who have experienced tribalism from Ashantis? Many! I am one. Throughout my life, I've always had friends from almost all tribes in Ghana and even beyond boarders. Never have I experienced tribalism from any of them except Ashanti. I was sitting my somewhere in the bus minding my business, that morning I was having a cool chat with my old lady on the phone. All I heard next to me was "Gyae sa kasa nu, 3y3 tae. Ka twi!" Herr! I thought to myself, "This guy must really have a death wish" I wasn't funny! How dare you disrespect my culture, my IDENTITY! I promise you, that day if I hadn't controlled myself I would've given him a hot slap that will probably cause the driver to make an emergency U-turn to the dentist, he would've lost few teeth or more. But I thank God that the devil didn't get that part of me that day, this is a testimony. Praise God! Meanwhile I made sure I spoilt his morning with words that can cause him nightmares. Yes o! I told him that it's because of this acts of oppressing others and sense of superiority in his ancestors that made them to sell off their fellow human beings as slaves to the white man because they saw their fellow Africans as non Akans. They've passed it on to their generation who are displaying same hatred but due to civilization, we're grateful to God that it hasn't escalated. Pharaoh did the same in the days of old, that man feels superior and thinks others who are non-egyptians should be slaves to him or bow to him. That makes me think hmmm 🤔 . Its one thing to be careful of someone and to hate. You're at the rear. No one is holding you, we've already left you to continue what you've been doing for years. You can still be proud of your culture without looking down on others or hating them for who they are. Imagine what the guy told me in the trotro. Why hating on other tribes? God knows why he form that tribe therefore they're as relevant as any other person on earth. With all sincerity, I've always heard stories about Ashantis hating on other tribes until it happened to me. I even have a good friend who is Ashanti. He told me that his mom doesn't approve of his girlfriend (now wife) because she's an Ewe. He told me "my mother doesn't like her all because she's Ewe. She comes to the house and serves my mother and that wouldn't even change my mom's stone heart". His mother forced an Akan girl on this guy who showed him shege whiles they were dating and he started drinking. A year later, he lost his mom and he went in for the Ewe girl. Now, my friend is living largely with his Ewe wife of 4 years in turkey. They have 2 beautiful children, boys and a big mansion in Ghana. That hateful mother will go and give full account to God. Desist from Tribalism, a sure way to hell. I WON'T FORCE YOU TO BELIEVE, JUST READ THE BIBLE TO CONFIRM. REPENT BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

When you travel outside Ghana, you will see how small the country is for us to be engaging in tribalism. The entire land area of Ghana is comparable to just one province in China. These issues of whose tribe is superior or inferior are needless. In this 21st century, inciting tribal conflict should be the last thing on the mind of any Ghanaian. The interesting thing is that the subjects are always the problem. These traditional leaders of various tribes have mutual respect for one another, yet their subjects keep fighting. We should stop focusing on unnecessary issues and learn to coexist with mutual respect for one another. That's what's most important.

OK, young man let me school you here a bit; You’ve heard “Mpepefo”, In the olden days, when the Akan merchants travelled to the Northern Region, there are towns with names that ends with “pe”, like Bupe Yape, and so on and the Southners, not knowing the tribe from which they are,simply called them “Mpepefo” for plural and “Pepeni”. Simply because the one from the South can’t ask what tribe is the person to do business with is from will simply refer to him/her as Pepeni / Mpepefo. Just like those from the North would call anyone from the South Asante or Kabonha. I’ll explain that of Tani / Ntafo.

This is what i believe, Ghana was predominately Akan in the. old Ghana empire, before other tribes were joined. to them. It's natural for them to be "hostile" to other cultures to protect their tradition. I think inherently Ashanti's like to even marry from their own clan. probably that's. why. they pass that. tradition down to their children.. I was kind to an Ashante family that didnt like ewes, they didnt know i was ewe. they always mentioned they didn't. like ewes. The day they found out i was ewe, they were embarrassed. there are good people and bad people, the culture can have an influence to some extent .
