The Blundstone 550's in rustic brown is certainly an attractive boot, but does it live up to the hype? This specific style is a 585 and appears to be a nubuck leather which to be 100% I didn't even notice right away because I impulse bought them and then tossed them on my feet.

The dialogue around blundstones is kind of wild. They’ve been ubiquitous work shoes in Australia for a very long time (I think they’re the original elastic Chelsea workboot) although mainly for work. Now they’re cool in Canada and there’s all these ideas about them being indestructible. In Australia there are a bunch of alternatives, and most people say that since they moved all there manufacturing overseas they are of noticeably worse quality than they were, and that Rossi’s or Redbacks are a better option. I guess it’s kind of a doc martens situation, but as an Australian seeing them featuring by Canadian youtubers is a weird feeling...

Yeah they’re popular in Canada as light work boots but if you need a real work boot there are better options for durability and protection. However I’ve seen some steel toed Blundstones that last a really long time for the price and they really light and convenient. 99% of them are for fashion here though. They look nice. Also they’re excellent for everyday outdoor boots. In Canada they were first popular with the more rural outdoor crowd.

Agreed. It's weird being an American who's worn them since before they were trendy. I felt the same when I visited family in France in 08 and literally everyone was wearing Chuck Tailors like they were just invented and thought they were ground breaking.

I’ve been a fan of Blundstone boots for around 30 years and I can honestly say the moving out of Tasmania hasn’t affected the quality at all. If anything as an Aussie I think the quality has improved. Sad to see the jobs go but hey the socks jeans pullover underpants I’m wearing are all made in China. And no one gets het up about that. These are my go to boots and I love them. Cheers from OZ.

I freaking LOVE my Blunnies. I live in the Midwest and wear them 365 (unless I'm in my Chacos). I've had them for 3 years and like he said wax them every 6 months? They're very water resistant (mostly waterproof). I really wax them for snow melt to keep the salt from soaking into the leather. They're 100% worth the money and honestly are an incredible deal for what you get. P.S. I have the model 585 that's mentioned in this video. Thanks for the great review.

I work in my blundstones on the ocean, in an engine room, on a boat, in Alaska. When buying clothes for conditions that are above the norm and hard considerations are paramount. I’ve been buying blundstones for my work boot on the boat. They are the hardest wearing most comfortable boots that live up to the harshes whether it’s an average sunny day to raining to icy conditions I can honestly say these are the best boots for the job. I step in grease/oil walk in rain puddles and step on icy decks with them and they keep me confident and comfortable. I have never had wet feet stepping in water but obviously I’m not submerging my feet in water either for weather protection they do their job and do it well. I do replace my blind stones when they get worn down because over time especially the abuse mine go thru you need to. I have 7 pairs 5 at home and two on the boat with me. I’ve had a pair on the boat now that I will be replacing but I will still be using them until they’ve run their course which will be not to long from now and I’m having a pair shipped to Alaska to stand by as replacements for my current pair. These boots are awesome and you should own a pair. My favorite blundstones are the all terrains and the are the most stylish and last the longest compared to the 550 rustic brown/ yellow soles which are my second favorite bluestone config. I’ve had that pair for 2 years before they ran their course and I upgraded to the new iteration of the vibram/ blundstone config which in my opinion last the longest.

I had a few of them over the years when they were still made in australia. they are ok, especially if your feet are kind of normal size without extra meat. they just advise you to buy half size up if you have relatively wide feet. One of the mysteries of the Blundstones is somehow the soles just go tofu or something. it doesn't happen all the time but i have my share of experience of the sole disintegrate on me. When blundstones no longer MIA, I gave up on them.

@@TheIronSnail Redbacks are made in Sydney. They have one distributer in the States based in California somewhere and sell from REDBACK website. It is a far superior boot and way more ergonomic than Blunnys. Blundstone Pack up their Aussie manufacturing in Tasmania and then went to hell in a basket (in my opinion). Australians were pretty pissed off about it to put it mildly. Redback build a beautiful basic black safety steel toe that holds it's shape and water resistance for years for around $160 last time I checked. Worn by firefighters and truck drivers all over the planet. Been wearing mine for close to 30 years (not the same pair!) and will continue till my feet stop working. When I lived and worked in Australia ,the slip on was the work boot of choice and when they wore out you " chucked the old ones over your shoulder" and threw on a new pair. Simple as that. Don't fret on how long they will last or screwing around with trying to re-sole....Just get a flippin' new set and be on your way! I toured their little factory in Redfern and the owner showed me around the place and it was bloody fantastic. Very cool to bump into the people who actually make your shoes. Anyhow....nuff said! Cheers!

Bought a pair for $75 last spring for my job as a professional gardener. The toes wore through quickly, but that is to be expected with any leather boot that's subjected to the kind of abuse the toes get while on your knees pulling weeds, etc. These are very comfortable boots and they are well made. I applied an epoxy boot guard to the worn toes and see no reason why I won't be able to wear these for at least another season. Will buy again...

The boots you have are the 585, you can treat them with a product called nikwax sude and nubuck it will not change the leather at all(darken for a bit). nikwax will last about 3 months.blundstone also has a reno cream (basically a clear polish that puts moisture back in to the leather with out changing it.. It does have a basic water resistant coating on all of them. The elastic is not waterproof and no way to make them that way. The only one that is waterproof is 584 which is the winter boot. I work for a shoe store and our main product is blundstone.

Just as a heads up, Blundstone makes insulated, waterproof thermal boots for winter. I have them and they are quite nice in the winter. I wear the regular 500 and 550s the rest of the year, along with other boots. I love my Red Wings, but they aren't nearly as comfortable or as versatile and Blundstones, especially in the winter when lacing boots is no fun...

10-15 years ago these were a good product. The first pair lasted ~5years of hard use. Solidly made with thick leather. The sole and heel eventually wore down but appeared to be dense material all the way through. The second pair I bought were like a totally different product. The first thing I noticed was they were much lighter in weight. The leather seemed thinner too. Within 2 years the heels had worn through and were foam filled-obviously unrepairable. Never bought a pair since. I think this company leans heavily on their name and prior reputation. There are much better alternatives IMHO.

For anyone still on the edge about Blundstone, I'd recommend having a look at both Redback and Rossi. Very similar boots and are both Autralian made. Redback has a more utilitarian look to them while Rossi can be considered the more fashionable of the two. EDIT: Forgot to say, both are tough as nails and from my experience Redback has generally been harder wearing than Blundstones so if you abuse your boots a lot they can be a good option.

@waxa3869
@waxa3869 2 жыл бұрын
@@migo-migo9503 Easily Redback. but that's mostly cause I don't like how Blundstones fit my feet personally and Rossi's have caused a bit of chafing at times. Everyone's feet are different though so Rossi's or Blundstones may fit you way better than Redbacks. All 3 are pretty similar widths, but I found that Redbacks stretched the most. Don't worry though about width issues for any of them, all 3 are/were work boot models so they're not that tight of a fit. I've worn my Redbacks at home, out getting food, into the city etc... cause they're just comfy and I don't have to worry about them getting damaged or anything. My only advice if you end up getting them is to replace the insoles, however I've heard recently that they've started shipping them with new updated ones which are waaaaaaaaay better so make sure they have the raised patch at the heel before you throw them away.

Been living in Vancouver almost 20 years, got tired of my feet getting soaked in regular shoes so I gave in and bought a pair a couple hours ago for a painful $250. Only bought them 'cause I heard they're fairly water resistant. At the store they said there are fully _waterproof_ ones but to me they looked a bit overly thick like regular work boots, the waterproof ones have tabs with blue writing. Any steel toed work boots I've had can be pretty heavy and clunky, these are super light and slip right on with ease. Time will tell though if they were worth the money...

How are the boots holding up in the Vancouver rain?
@lordpickle8424
@lordpickle8424 2 жыл бұрын
@@JB-1138 I actually ended up taking them back as few times. Turns out my left foot is significantly smaller and thinner than my right foot which I've gone my entire life without realizing, lol. I ended up getting the fully waterproof ones because they have a thicker lining and have 'thinsulate' too, then I went to Ontario and they held up great in the -30 or -40 winter. I've spent about a week with them in the rain before leaving and they kept my feet dry as a bone. Even back in Ontario they kept my feet warm. They're worth the money so far.

@@JB-1138 Tbh if you need an easy waterproof boot Blundstones aren’t the best. But if you clean regularly and apply a good waterproof spray they are good. But still if you are out in pouring rain for a long time or you step in a puddle no leather boot will be that waterproof.

Great video, subbed. I love the boots, but just cannot be asked to pay the full price for them. Would you recommend picking up a pair 2nd hand? The only thing I'd be concerned about is how it was worn prior and could somehow mess my feet up?

ive had a pair going on 3 years now. The quality is still there, people just dont take care of their boots. I use leather oil regularly in winter. Tip: Don't wear leather shoes everyday. Your feet sweat and the salt from the sweat can break down leather from the inside of the boots. Alternate every other day with another pair of boots.

All I want to know is, as an American who's used to US sizing, is if I should buy a size down from what I usually wear. Generally I wear a 9, but I bought a pair of Clarks in 8's and they fit perfectly. Just wondering if the same concept applies to Blundstones? I love the look and I've been wanting a pair for a while.
