I don’t trust Chalice at all after what they did with the Grinch sodas. Not sure if you saw Rock N Rowes video but all cases were broken in the back and after buying 20+ sodas, all were commons. Not to mention, one seller happens to be selling a ton of chalice collectible chases and had about 6 grinch chases when they first released on Mercari - a bit sus

I agree with you completely, random is random. Single pop mystery boxes should all be boxed and sealed separately before they are even advertised, and have some else mix em up or put #'s on them. Whwn I do mystery in my shows, they are sealed before the show and they get mixed and numbered live and stay in cameras site the whole time; transparency amd integrity is huge. Definitely not over reacting, there are very few mystery boxes I'll even mess with anymore because of this reason. Sad to see because the mystery box game used to be so good.

Yeah, I’m getting some hate on this purely because I got good value, but the fact of the matter is I didn’t receive what I ordered. I ordered 10 single Pop mystery boxes and I received 2 five Pop mystery boxes. What’s frustrating about it is that Chalice used to pack them individually. Of course they still could have “bundled” those individual boxes to make sure multiple hits weren’t grouped together (and I’m certain a lot of companies still do this), but at least it gives the buyer a tiny bit more confidence that it’s random. That’s one nice thing about doing it on Whatnot, because as you mentioned, you can do it LIVE and prove right in front of peoples faces that it’s truly random. Thanks for checking out the video man!

I had issues with Chalice on their New years mystery box. They sent me multiple of the same pop in the same box. I emailed them and it took them 2 weeks to get back to me and all they offered was 10 bucks back and said sorry. I haven't ordered a mystery box from them since because it was for sure a dump to try and get lower end pops out of their back room.

Yeah, it’s sad to hear stories like this because Chalice used to be really great. I remember like 5 years ago I pulled Director Freddy from one of their mystery boxes. It seems like they’ve slowly gone down hill and now they use their mystery boxes (similar to other retailers) to just dump con exclusives and overseas exclusives that are overinflated on PPG. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes, I’ve only bought 2 mystery boxes and well, I’m not doing that anymore. They give you special edition pops in which those, prices never get adjusted from their last run of sales since they are the first on market 8/10 times. Also ChronoToys and BoomLoot

You make a good point. This is clearly a moderated box. While a mystery box should be picked blind. You should have had a chance to get three Thor chases.

Exactly! When it’s a single Pop mystery box, you should have a chance (even if it’s very small) at getting multiple hits. Instead these were curated 5 Pop mystery boxes. Chalice usually packs them individually so I’m not sure why they changed it up like this.

I'm not going to comment on the validity of the mystery boxes but those were some cool POPs! I really enjoyed most of the figures in those boxes!

What was the total PPG, compared to actual "sell" value?

I think realistic sell value is 70% of PPG. So in this instance, I feel like realistic value was somewhere around $190, which means we still profited about $40.

The only time I buy from Chalice is when you are assured the chase in the package. I don't trust them on the "random" selection either.

I think a lot of these companies lost touch with why they started selling Funko in the first place. And now it’s all business. And as much as I understand they are trying to make money, a lot of them have given up on giving their customers a good fun experience.

definitely not over reacting, i felt the same. chalice collectible i notice whenever they do a mystery box, guarantee value, 5 commons and 1 exclusive, 50$ value was over but all pops were nothing crazy, even the exclusive, its basically buying separately.

Yeah, it seems like most Mystery Box companies have turned into product dumps now. It used to be that there would be more of a mix of older stuff from collections, but there are very few companies who still do that.

I would say it's 50/50 if it's really random or not. I don't really see how putting 5 pops in a bigger box takes away from it being random. They would do that to keep shipping costs down I would think. They could very easily have a big pop mountain and they chose 5 random pops from pop mountain and put them together. However you could easily be right and it could be calculated.

They used to do them individually so it at least gave the customer some comfort it was random. But when they package them all together, I think they should sell it as a $100 mystery box rather than a single $20 mystery box since they clearly have the choice in how they bundle them. But you’re right, it could be completely innocent on their part, but it’s just a bad practice.

What if you got the exact same Pops in separate boxes?? Nothing is keeping these companies from controlling what each person gets no matter how it appears. How do we even know that the top hits are actually put in the mystery boxes?

Completely agree that we are just entrusting these companies to do the right thing when it comes to keeping things random and actually including the hits. In this instance, I only cared because the boxes were marketed as single Pop mystery boxes and so you expect that they had them all prepackaged individually so that it’s truly random when you buy 12 different boxes. Obviously they decided exactly which Pops I got, so it just made me lose trust in their process.

They used to put single Pop mystery boxes in individual boxes. If I’m paying for 10 single Pop mystery boxes, they should be 10 random Pops not 10 preselected Pops bundled together.

So they slowed down on doing boxes, I think when they do them it’s mainly cleaning out the stuff no one wanted but spicing it up with some chases and grails. I think they are hand picked and sealed in that box but I think at that point it’s random what two they grab. That’s a lot of unnecessary work for someone to keep track and hand puck every order when they can cut cost in half just grabbing random boxes

Yeah, but what happens if I just bought 3 of them instead of 10? The point is that they are purchased as individual boxes so they shouldn’t be bundled at all. Especially since they had an entire page of top grail hits. How do they decide where those grail hits go? Do they go in the bundled boxes of 5 or do they go in the single boxes for the people who just ordered one or two? It just creates a lot of questions and a lot of distrust with whether or not those top hits are even sent out and how they decide who gets them. It’s just evident it literally can’t be random.

Definitely agree that they hand picked what they wanted to go into those boxes and there was no way they were going to give more than 1 great hit in those! The PPG is oddly enough what I talk about today in our video where technically based off PPG we got good value back in our box but in reality if you go on eBay or wherever there is no way you would need to pay what PPG shows. Still overall some cool pops and hopefully you can do well with selling the ones you won’t keep! Do like that Thor a lot and the Black Adam is super cool!!

Yeah, it’s impossible for it to be truly random single pops when they are packaging them in a group of 5. I have a feeling they packaged a lot of them in bundles because they had a limit of 10, so they figured a lot of people would just order the maximum. Overall value was still great and had some decent Pops, but like you said, PPG is just not accurate to real life sales for most people. Mystery box companies reap all the benefits from PPG being inflated.

Those pops were definitely handpicked for that order. I feel poptopia did the same things. They’d wrap each pop in butcher paper and put them all together, even if you ordered two of the two pop mystery boxes. There was no distinction as to which order was which and you’d almost always get one pop that made the box worth it and the rest filler

Also confirms that it would be literally impossible to ever get two of the bigger hits because they would never let that happen when they are clearly handpicking the Pops rather than just letting it be random.

Are you new to mystery boxes? No matter how they package it they know what goes into every box. If it was completely random then it's possible that 1 person could get a $100 box worth $1000 and another could get a $100 box worth $40 because they didn't monitor what went where.

Nope not new to them at all - I’ve collected Funko for 9 years. These were marketed and sold as $20 individual single pop mystery boxes. I bought 10 of them. In these types of runs, companies typically box every Pop individually and randomly select them. So in this situation, you could potentially get multiple tops hits since each individual box should have been random. What you described is a multi-pop mystery box and in those situations of course they have to build the box to ensure values are distributed appropriately.

I’ve been buying their boxes since 2018 and they’ve changed a lot since then. Back then they would put mega hits in their boxes and their method for randomizing was much different. Not sure why they’re changed, probably because they’ve become a much bigger company.

Check out Top Pops video where he opened these same mystery boxes from this same run. He had similar results. They clearly bundle them together and it’s pretty evident it would be impossible to get multiple hits the way you could if it was truly random.

I personally think it's fair so people won't complain about value and its impossible to make everyone happy doing mystery boxes. I enjoy your videos but kinda sucks the fun out of it to hear you complain the whole video. You never know what you get with mystery boxes that's just the risk you take. It's a gamble I think ppl should appreciate at least getting their value back vs. Getting a whole box of trash because you want it to be random. That's just my opinion. ❤️

Totally understand - and I do try not to be negative most of the time. In terms of value I have no complaints at all. I think they offer really good PPG value and you can see it because they are the top company in value rankings I have at the end of the videos. My issue was purely about the randomness of the boxes. I bought 10 single Pop mystery boxes, but they didn’t ship me 10 truly random single boxed mystery Pops. If it was a $120 box for 10 Pops I wouldn’t be upset at all. But these were supposed to be single Pop mystery boxes. They used to package them individually so it was actually random. That was my biggest issue and not something I ran into with them in the past.
