I agree, it’s not random, they are telling you it’s not random when they say you will not get a duplicate, they should not know you will not get a duplicate. They did not send you 10 mystery boxes, they sent you 2 5 pop(lackluster) mystery boxes. We all know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but what does the beholder do when all they see our ugly things? Ha ha ha! Hope you have been doing great lately Michael☺️

I absolutely don’t like when companies put all the “boxes” together in 1 box and yeah if they are saying order 15 or less and get no duplicates then it’s definitely not random and they will never just put numerous hits in 1 order where if they were pre packaged and randomized you could. Anikan and Pikachu were probably my favorites but not impressive pulls at all!

Yeah, pops weren’t too bad at all. Just still questionable on their boxing practices, but they always hit decent value for sure.

I would not buy a mystery box where they told me i was not getting any duplicates if i ordered 15 - Make me feel like they are reserving their grails for certain people/friends whatever.

Another question. With values dropping on many pops. How do you still buy? And what type you feel may hold value in two years?

Great question! It’s definitely a little harder to justify buying mystery boxes unless they are guaranteed value. I don’t think anything that was released 2020-2024 will have substantial value. The few exceptions would be super limited stuff like the NFTs and then of course if anything random starts trending in Pop culture. My advice is to buy for enjoyment and not for value because a lot of newer stuff won’t hold much value.

Pop King Paul and Boomloot are still very reliable because they show you the hits and they offer good value.

Here's how it could be random AND now allow duplicates: If the limit is 15 pops, all you have to do is set up 15 different shelves or bins, then when adding pops to those 15 sections you make sure to keep all of the duplicates of a specific pop only to that one bin, thus making it totally impossible to get a duplicate if no more than 1 is pulled from any specific bin. Then lets say you had 30 chases set up for a big run, you put 2 in each of the 15 bins. You could keep the hits blind by using the folded cardboard shippers and mix the bins up, or if the storage room is secure you can just have the hits visible but pulled in order sequentially off the shelf. If an order of fewer than 15 comes in you could just pick from the bins by feel, or use a random number generator though that can cause the problem of a specific bin running out first leaving only 14 or 13 or 12 bins to pick from making duplicates possible again when someone orders 15.

Yeah, totally understand there could be a method for ensuring there are no duplicates, but I just have a hard time trusting a process like this where they are boxing the Pops as they are selling vs pre-packing every individual Pop. They also hardly ever disclose the box count, and they usually have an odd number of hits, so you never know how this breakdown would even happen in practice. I’d love to think they have an elaborate process to ensure it’s fair, but my gut tells me they just package the mystery boxes as they sell, and then they cut off the listing once they sold enough boxes. If that’s the case, then it’s hard to know how many grails they are actually sprinkling in. Chalice actually made a post on Instagram after my video came out to answer some of this and I really appreciated that they tried to address it, I guess at the end of the day I’m just not a fan of the method.

My assumption has always been that in cases like these they would use a random number generator. Things can still be random and not made beforehand. They can guarantee no dupes because they just would reroll the number gen when picking. Thats just my assumption, kind of how like sports card breakers do breaks for teams and such

I would love to think this is how they do it and would love even more for them to confirm their process, but my understanding is that they package boxes as they sell and just decide on the spot what they put in.

@TheFunko411 yeah that sounds about right, I've always stayed away from mystery boxes for that reason. If it's not a super trusted seller that I know won't take advantage im not buying one for this reason. There is no way to know it's truly random unless it's all done live or something

It is a bit suspect but Chalice is the only company that I've pulled a mega grail from and I'm a nobody, so they're at least alright in my book 🤣

I’ve pulled grails from them back in the day like 6 years ago, but nothing recent. My guess is that they pre-pack a bunch of boxes with 5 Pops similar to the ones I got, and then throw in grails into some of them. I’ve never purchased just a single box, so I’m kind of curious how my luck would be if I bought them individually across multiple orders because then I wouldn’t be getting one of these prepackaged 5-packs. 🤷🏻‍♂️

For sure, we placed a couple orders and got all Walgreens stickered. I don't think ours made it to mystery boxes though as the demand for the piece was high enough that regular customers purchased all the ones we snagged. ​@@TheFunko411

I have a problem with mystery box companies when they advertise the odds. 40 available boxes and 4 top hits. They advertise 1 in 10 chance of a top hit. That's not how math works. I could buy 15 boxes and not get a top hit. If I had the shittiest luck ever, I could buy up to 35 boxes and not get a top hit.

I don’t like Chalice mystery boxes. The last time I bought a box from them was like 3 years ago. It was a New Year mystery box. Terrible mystery box. Most of the videos I watched of the opening of the box pulled the same pops. So they made a mystery box with the same pulls. I have bought a pop or two that I needed it and they had it on their website. They hardly ever put a good pull in their mystery boxes.🌹🌹🌸💐🪻

Yeah, their boxes have become very predicable. A lot of anime and a lot of overseas stickers. Back when I first started buying from them, 5-6 years ago, they used to put some good hits randomly in the boxes. Now it seems like they just have a lot more boxes and harder to get the hits.
