What do we think? Do the cheap jack plates still have a place?

I had a Vance manual jack plate on my old boat and I have a TH marine Z lock on my current boat. Both did fine but I like the Vance better because it was easier to adjust. A Hydraulic jack plate is the way to go. I will be switching to a Bob's Hydraulic plate soon.

Vance makes good stuff too! I'd like to dabble with a hydraulic as well

I have a Z Lock on my Phoenix, my second one. I personally think the Z Lock is junk. Extremely difficult to adjust. And no where do they tell you the bolts are actually threaded into the inner portion. I just adjusted mine, not too bad since I have dealt with them before. I really like the Slidemasters, easy to adjust and well made.

@eddiepayne8533 I do agree that a height indicator of some sort would be pretty handy. Seems to adjust fine though, but i don't have a big motor.

Great timing! Thank you for this video-I have thought about a Hydraulic Jackplate, but I really do not need because I plan on setting it and leaving the adjustment there, but I might change motors in the future. I have a 17’ Boston whaler Montauk with a 60hp, so I am wondering if I can get by with the cheap?

There's another mid priced one I linked in the description which may fit what you need.
