According to Transfermarkt on the match report, the PURCHASE value and MARKET value for Chelsea's squad (including bench) were €680.1 million (ie paid) and €687.3 million (current value) respectively. Whilst for Liverpool it were €342.55 million and €441.7 million respectively. However if we ONLY include Chelsea's starting line up and ignore their bench, then their purchase and market values were €480.4 million and €498 milliln, which is greater than the ENTIRE Liverpool team played today including their unused subs. 😄

Chelsea and City are seen as cheats of football. They are manufactured teams with bought history. United and Liverpool hate each other, but at least they are both real clubs, so there's some respect between them.

I know it seems dire but Chelsea are not as far away as they currently look. They need some on field leaders, instead of buying 5 or 6 new players they need to get two experienced proven winner/leaders who can not only contribute but also show the young players what it takes to be real winners. They should be able to do it with a net spend of zero by selling a few of their young talented players. I think the turnaround could be fast but they need to be smart and not just to try and buy the next stars, take a clue from Liverpool who basically did not settle when the needed VVD and Alison, they spent big but they knew they needed a spine for all their young players. They need to do their homework and make sure they get players whose impact is just as much away from the field as they are on it, not just talented but character guys, John Terry types.

Thing is, they literally can't. Every summer for the next 5 years they need to make £90m in transfers just to be able to cover the cost of the amortised fees they already owe. That's why we saw them pushing out Jorginho, Havertz, Mount, Kovacic, Koulibaily etc, that tactic can probably work for one more summer, I think we'll see Gallagher, Chilwell and one more leave this summer to balance the books, but after that? Good luck recouping any reasonable fees for the other bums in that squad.
