P B exceptional ingredients in the Isdin Sunscreen but the cast is well apparent. I am two shades lighter that the KZbinr and its unsightly after initial and worst with reapplication. It ultra light watery texture that melts into skin with a cast. I attribute this to the denatured alcohol which high up on the list of ingredients. It goes on super sheer, it almost eliminates the oil on your skin, once again I attribute that to the high alcohol content. The smell is fair. I am not impressed by it. If you have facial hair it definitely will clump around your hair follicles

I think the first man doctor touched on this a little bit...for those who are struggling with hyperpigmentation, a physical sunscreen is probably better because it ‘blocks’ a percentage of the light. Dr. Rattan and Dr Alexis Stephens who you can find on here said that they’ve seen hyperpigmentation heal better in patients using a physical sunscreen and they attribute it to the blocking factor and that’s one of the reasons they prefer to recommend a physical. Very good video.

@Iman Hashmi Wow, did yall even watch the video? Physical sunscreen specifically iron oxide blocks UV rays. They didn't mention a percentage, they said completely. That's simply what they do. Chemical does not block them, but causes the rays to become harmless once the rays penetrate the skin after a chemical reaction takes place.

Ive tried physical/mineral sunscreen but the white cast seems to bother me a lot, i look hella ashy but in the same time i found my holy grail sunscreen but it's a chemical sunscreen. Kinda have mixed feelings when ppl around me keep mentioning how bad the chemical sunscreens are while in my personal views, i dont experience any irritation, also my PIH seems to be faded by using the chemical sunscreen. One thing that I've heard in your video that isn't often talked about, but is a great tip. Mineral powder foundations! I had great results with mine, that has spf 35 and iron oxide in it. There is also a tinted sunscreen, spf 50 that I love, but it's better for Fitzpatrick 4, maybe 3 to 4 with yellow undertones. It is anti redness and anti pigmentation by Altruist. It is chemical and physical, has iron oxides, plus some antioxidants and soothing ingredients.

i have PMLE (polymorphous light eruption) so i get sun rash (not the same as heat rash) and blisters when exposed to too much sun. in other words, i am a dark-skinned black person who is allergic to the sun. chemical sunscreens speed up and intensify the photoresponse. i could literally feel my skin burning. i have permanent skin discoloration from years of turnaround when i went to numerous white doctors who would shrug and tell me to change my soap, laundry detergent, and lotion. i had to figure out what it was on my own and then get a confirmation from a POC doctor who was the first person to explain the difference between physical and chemical sunscreens and advise me to only use those with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. this is all to say, even if you don't have these dermatological issues, please be cautious with chemical sunscreens. the chemical response is happening under your skin.

This was an amazing video concept. I only wish they spoke about the link between chemical sunscreens with melasma because there’s a lot of research that shows that patients with melasma should only use physical sunscreen. Also the fact that chemical sunscreens get absorbed into the blood and aren’t safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women which is a huge portion of the population
@tiffanyedavenport8633 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad Dr. Hartman made the point about allergies to chemical sunscreens. I have tried some chemical sunscreens that cause no reaction, and others that give me a rash and break me out for two weeks after use. I haven't gone back to make a comparison about which ingredients are in certain percentages in each product to track down where the reaction is coming from, so I just stick to mineral/physical sunscreens.

Most of the doctors interviewed all agree that mineral is more recommended. But people are going to use what they want if they use anything at all. To each his/her own. I personally would not use something that has the potential to have or cause so many problems and just hope I'm not the one that will experience or get a reaction. Not to mention, half of the active ingredients in chemical sunscreens are on EWG as toxic as it builds up in your system overtime. But again, people will use what they want to use.

I do my research and try things, just because something doesn’t Work for another doesn’t mean it’s all going to be bad for me. I use a chemical sunscreen from Japan and have never had an issue with it. Lastly, Lab Muffin did a little experiment documenting how much of her sunscreen is left after just applying it in the morning and deducted on average about 75% is left at the end of the day depending on how much you apply and the type so it isn't always a case of all the sunscreen just disappearing completely. Now, I'm not advocating that we don't need to top up ( because I'll take 100% over 75%) but if for whatever reason, you don't, your skin isn't necessarily completely naked.

Dr Vanita is just saying the same thing that all 3 derms have said on this video. Since she treats mostly soc, she deals with this a bigger scale. Dr Alexis Stevens also agrees. But the problem is with skin reacting to the chemicals not demonizing the chemicals themselves. Also the hyperpigmentation and becoming sensitive is not always immediate, sometimes it happens over time. They are being cautious and nothing wrong with that.

Hi you concluded the video by saying Dermatologist see the worst of the worst as if that is what influence their opinion. More than seeing the worst of the worst I would have said that they SEE TOUCH TREAT HEAL a largest portion of the population than any blogger esthetician etc.... so they have a better overall view. They can read, challenge and understand the studies. They share with each other their experiences to get an even better view and some also do research. All the Dermatologists I follow say that contact dermatatis ( allergic reactions) is highly increasing. They can see it and statitics also show it. We have to remember that they are Doctors so of course they will give the most effective and less risky advice with no regards to the latest new "amazing" ingredient, product or brand.

Hey! Did you watch the full video? Of course seeing people with bad reactions (the worst of the worst) often is going to influence their opinion and they’re going to tell the public to use things that have the least likelihood of irritation. None of the experts I’ve spoken to in this video and beyond this video (as I said at the end of the video) have condemned chemical sunscreens for everybody. There are a number of things that can be causing an uptick in contact dermatitis including but not limited to chemical sunscreens (some of the non-paraben preservatives can cause problems for some people for one example). But if you think you would have worded it differently, I’d love to see you upload a video doing such. Let me know when you do it and I’ll check it out ❤️
@heredianna24964 жыл бұрын
@@styleandbeautydoctor I did watch the full video and gave you my personal feedback on a specific part that made me uncomfortable. Will I do the same video with a different wording? No, simply because that's not a topic that would motivate me to make a video. But I do make videos and sometimes viewers don't agree with me or with my wording, or with the way I presented things. As long as it is explained in a respectful and clear way I listen to what they have to say and agree with them or just agree to disagree. But you, did you really read my comment or did you just see a critic in it because you put word in my mouth that I did not even mention or implied in my comment. Did I say contact dermatatis is caused only or mainly by chemical sunscreens? No. Did I say Dermatologists or the one you interviewed are all or against chemical sunscreens for everybody ? Again no.
@faceonnailsdonehairdid4 жыл бұрын
One other major issue I have with chemical sunscreens (and I'm a little worried about) is the fact that it is quickly found in the blood stream after application and all the FDA have to say is that more studies need to be done on the impact of this. The question is WHEN and can we have answers please because it would be great to know for sure that it's not doing any harm.

Sorry that happened to you with the FAB mineral! That was my experience with mineral sunscreens for years until I started to take a deeper dive into testing what else is out there and found some that are really nice. I still prefer a chemical sunscreen for me, myself, personally, but thankfully there are some better mineral options out there. And hopefully now that we know more about how visible light affects persistent pigmentation in skin of color, we can get even more mineral options in the US that are more cosmetically elegant.

Chemical burns so much to me idk why, and some seem to darken my skin, and it gets in my eyes and mouth, except Banana Boat sport spf 30 or 50 and EltaMD up clear, and my pigmentation seems to go away when I’m using a mineral which sucks because of the cast, I’ve settled on using Biossance sunscreen as my first layer and EltaMD I reapply every 2 hrs and i tint it with a drop or 2 of Ilia super serum sunscreen
@anja65482 жыл бұрын
I think that's because of the American filters and maybe fragrance? Try sunscreens from other countries.

People are going to believe what they want and on any issue you are going to find people that don't agree. Personally KZbin is just a tool and they speak in generalities. For specifics you need to be seen.I have had doctors in specialties disagree and ultimately I had to do what I felt comfortable with. Also doctors at one time were certainly pushing things based on their relationship with the drug companies.

Thank you for this video on this topic!! I am 40 years old and have worn SPF since I was 18 when I was in college and started working for Estée Lauder. I spent many years at the beach or on a lake as a young child, and my folks never encouraged sunscreen. It just wasn’t a thing. However, now we know that while black don’t crack, we can still get skin cancer and can get a sunburn. I alternate between mineral and chemical sunscreen. I typically use a chemical sunscreen when I am exercising outside due to sweating. Is there a mineral sunscreen you recommend that is good for exercising outside that is sweat resistant? Once again, thanks for bringing up this very important topic!

I’m not a fan of mineral sunscreen…chemical sunscreens give me the least amount of issues in the long run. When I venture over to the mineral side I can feel them on my skin and they always cause a little bit of irritation. Not a super fan. The formulas have gotten better over the years but still not a huge fan.

I just bought sunscreen for black girls 😩 I hope its good for my skin to use . Im still confused about sunscreen . Is that one a chemical or mineral
@styleandbeautydoctor4 жыл бұрын
That one is chemical! You can tell if an American sunscreen is physical or chemical by looking at the active ingredients. Physical sunscreens will contain zinc oxide as the active ingredient or a combo or zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. The packaging may (but won’t always) say 100% mineral sunscreen. Some packaging may refer to them as “blockers” but not all. Chemical sunscreens (in America) will contain any number of the following as an active ingredient: avobenzone, oxybenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, oxtinoxate, homosalate. These are chemical UV filters. If it says “mineral-based” it’s usually a combo of zinc and one of the chemical filters. I typically find that mineral sunscreens go out of their way to tell you they’re mineral so sometimes it’s just a case of looking at the packaging. If you get confused, you can look up the active ingredients :) Now when it comes to sunscreens available outside of the US, that’s a whole other ball game lol

@@styleandbeautydoctor I have tried a couple and have sadly had to return them. I too use the Purito unscented. Have you found a fragrance-free mineral sunscreen that won't leave a white caste on very deep complexions such as the beautiful Nyma Tang? There seems to be nothing on the market for us darker tones, at least from what I have tried.
@styleandbeautydoctor4 жыл бұрын
I’ve tried quite a number that blend into deep complexions like that listed here: tsabd.com/best_mineral_dark_skin_blog. Also keep in mind that with many mineral sunscreens, you have to apply light layers to get it to blend in nicely. You eventually apply enough so you have the right amount but you do it in thin layers. Applying it like you would a regular lotion is going to hurt your feelings lol.

Rewatch the part with Dr Cheryl Burgess-she talks about how she tells her patients to apply mineral sunscreen.
@norahger1934 жыл бұрын
I did check out that video, it was a great video but most were not a perfect fit. Black women really need to define the reasons for use of sunscreen and for me it's hyperpigmentation. I feel more threatened by effects of UVA than UVB. And from an earlier video you did with a dermatologist in sunscreen, what came out was that zinc and iron oxide provide more protection against uva. The higher the percentage of zinc the better. Unfortunately zinc gives a white cast but it's our best friend against uva. And funny enough liquid mineral sunscreens just leave a wonderful feeling in my skin with no irritation. Sometimes I layer a mineral and chemical to counteract the white cast but I do not know what studies have to say about that.
