How much did you spend on your RV? We spent quite a bit, so I’m wondering about that expense. Would we have saved money never buying the RV and instead just traveling by car?

Robert, well done, enjoyed this. You're absolutely right, the people we met along the way owning the RV and the connections with some have been amazing. You definitely don't meet people and make friends with hotel guests, at least we never did that. I've even met RVers online and found a connection with the same interests as you know. And, you can't have a campfire in a hotel. I think the best feature of the RV is the sense of "adventure". It's definitely a different feeling piloting your own course and the vehicle can take you literally anywhere and you have a home base with you. Think of it like your own "mini-Starship"; it's a cocoon that has its own power, bathroom, sleeping facilities and entertainment. You can literally be up close to nature and we've seen some amazing animals just outside our camper inside the Grand Canyon. Are Class B's worth the money? That's for individuals to decide. If you buy something and you don't use it, then it's not worth it. People sometimes get the romantic notion that they will love this and find out it's not for them. That's unfortunate and they probably should have rented one. It's hard work having fun, but, yes, I think it's definitely worth the experience. You get what you put into this. And, life experience is definitely rewarding. I look back on all of our pictures and trips and it's wonderful. We also take many car trips across the USA. They are different because generally we're on our way to a destination. We don't usually stay in $150 hotels just traveling day to day, especially if we're just going through. It's different if you're stopping for an extended period of time. I cannot imagine traveling for 90 days in the RV.. unless it were a gigantic Class A.... geez, the van is just too small for a 3 month trip, impossible. Finally, the one thing you didn't consider was the maintenance and repairs, this is a huge factor. You don't have this cost in hotels. I've discovered that RVs are a different way to travel than hotels, but, overall, you're not going to save money. Just having the RV in your driveway costs money without going anywhere. It's the annual maintenance, repairs, registration and insurance. --- Mark

Very well said! I like the "piloting your own course" statement... it is very much like piloting isn't it? And you really do find your own way when you RV. We met online... and still haven't met in person, so I know what you mean! Not sure wife and I could do 90 days in a row in the RV either... alone I might be able to do it, but not the both of us and the dog. It gets a little too cramped for us. That said, we tend to either stay at an RV park or hotel every few days, so who knows... maybe we could. Not sure how bad the costs of RV repairs would be as compared to a car (if you traveled as much in the car as you would an RV). You would have appliance repairs, of course, but you can't really consider that since cars don't have appliances. It would seem both cars and RVs would have about the same repair costs, give or take. We have a dually, so tires would cost us more on the RV than the car, but overall, the same things are in a car as are in a van. Be seeing you!!

I travel to visit family in Ohio at least 20 times a year. I no longer have to fuss and figure out where I'll sleep and if the room I used to use will even be ready to use due to whatever is going on in the family member's home. The money I save on trips by loading up the coach's refrigerator/freezer with the food I like saves big $$$ I can bust out my Blackstone griddle and in 10 minutes, I can be cooking steaks, veggies, fish. Over time, this really adds up. Being able to park and rest at a moments notice is just so Bohemian...I will never not have a B...

Wow... 20 times a year!! When do you have time to travel anywhere else?!? We also find that the van is just perfect to sleep in... no need to make a bed or have someone give up their bedroom for us!

@@RoadsofLife I live only 140 miles from family in Ohio, so I'm talking about weekend visits. Easy peasy...

As long as you're using the van, these things can provide a pretty good value. I estimate I've been on about 65 vacations in the last two years, so very hard to argue I haven't got my money's worth. Unfortunately you do occasionally see people that end up not using their van and in that case it turns out to be a poor value proposition. I recently met a couple who purchased the same model year as my van with only 6k miles on it. My van has 45k miles on it, so not sure what the previous owner of that other van was doing with it
