We dont look at movies like Casablanca or wizard of Oz and say theyre actually bad because of todays standards and advancement in film, this should go for every media form (art, movies, music, etc) but for some reason games never get the same fair treatment

Because you can still enjoy a movie that's not 4K HDR level of quality and doesn't have CGI, but you can't enjoy a 1996 gameplay as well as a 2024 gameplay. They're two different worlds

@@nickF_CA it's not, at all. Visuals are one thing, gameplay is a whole other thing. I could play a gameboy-looking game all day if it had great gameplay. Pokémon Red just wasn't that good gameplay wise. It was fun and revolutionary, but not excellent

i work with elementary schoolers and the gigantamax love is so real, one of the young ones did not understand that we probably wouldn't see dynamax again at least for a while.

Just because games don't hold up now doesn't mean they weren't good. GF mastered 2D top-down and put more care into older games than current ones. These newer games are fun, but not "good," as Metacritic shows-Switch sales prove anything sells. Its a result of high demand and i honestly would prefer slower release cadences. More dev time is a win.

Besides graphics and performance my biggest gripe with switch era games is currently you cannot complete national dex in home with just switch games, and at this point nobody can download pokemon bank so if you didn’t already have that setup you cannot possibly complete the national dex and get the special magearna. I like the idea of de emphasizing national dex and using regional dex for shiny charm etc. in individual games though. Here’s hoping legends z-a/30th anniversary events fill in the gaps for national dex building

I never played past gen 3 im currently finishing up gen 3 and starting gen diamond and pearl got so much to go to get to current gen can't wait, there will probably be another 2 releases by the time I get up to date. Hopefully they keep bank working until I'm there 🙏 good content guys

Be prepared for a decline after Gen 5 once they go 3D. The skill level decreases, mazes are basically gone, and soon they start telling you where to go. Game picks up though Gen 8 and 9 imo.

Pokemon's appeal is something that simply doesnt have as much power in modern days because the social context we exist in is different. Back then trading secrets on the playground and trading in person were magical but now with the internet and online, a lot of that social element is diminished. Its hard to say the games were good/bad because the games existed on an environment that qas sinply different than today in ways that reach beyond the standards and expectations of games today in pure isolation. The climate is just not the same.

PokeMMO did it right. 5 generations in one open world. Breeding is better, the whole game is more challenging. You can completely customize your own sprite. It’s the game we all wanted.

I have replayed BDSP a few times, but I couldn't bring myself to finish SV more than once. I'd personally still like another let's go game, but I'd happily take more BDSP style games before another game like SV. I'm here for ZA cause PLA was amazing, but whenever Gen 10 eventually comes I'm gonna be really hesitant because of how much I didn't enjoy SV compared to the rest of the franchise.

Based for not nicknaming most Pokemon, I've nicknamed very few Pokemon, I've nicknamed cat Pokemon after pet cats I've had/have, and I nicknamed Solgaleo Nebby in Sun, but that's pretty much it.

I'm in the same boat, tried nicknaming as a kid but just didn't ever again. But now as an adult, I still don't but it feels wrong. Even my lizards are named Thing 1 and Thing 2, why did pokemon and digimon normalize calling pets by their species name.

Seriously, people are not being graphics snobs when they say the mainline Pokémon games do not look good right now. Most of these games are a sloppy mess of conflicting arts styles in the environment, the Pokémon, and the human characters. It’s not like gamefreak are even going for a simpler visual style. When you add on top of that the way the games perform and how hollow the worlds feel it really does become insulting.

People only like those classic grindfests because they can speed up the emulator, imagine grinding slowly with a gba/ds with a limited battery, its boring, thats why i love bdsp, a mixture of old and new, top down view, quick start, but shard exp, boxes on click, modern menus

One of my biggest dislikes with Pokemon changes is shared exp. The grind is gone, but over leveling is too easy. I would prefer the option to do single or shared exp share.

I am fine with the 2D anime graphics and being top-down for the content. Fantasy never needs to be like reality. I can handle Pokémon being Japanese as its origin. The story can just be about being a Champion and completing the Pokédexes.
