Even if the quality is as good or better I never liked using my consoles to play disc based movies. Even from my ps2. I never used my ps2 as a DVD player and the console still works to this day. I could be crazy but I feel like I’m lowering the lifespan of my consoles by playing movies on them. I am using my Xbox one x as a 4K player until I get a dedicated one once my tax return comes in the mail.

It must also be stated dedicated players can have more viewing options and a dedicated player won't need an hour update before watching a movie like my xbox one s always seems to need.

Well I have an Xbox One S because it has the UHD player and I'd rather use valuable space near my TV on a console and player in one in anticipation of getting a 4K TV. To me the difference is small so I'm very happy to stick with that.

Thanks, I would agree the difference is minimal. One benefit of the Sony - UBP-X800M2 when connected to a Sony Bravia TV is listening with Sony Headphones. I was on the fence with this and I am also looking at the difference between the PS5 and Sony - UBP-X800M2. Update: I purchased a Sony - UBP-X800M2 but like many others, I am plagued with 4K disc lockups. In fact every single 4K disc I have played locks up after about an hour! Going to a console might be the better option but still looking.

I finally picked this 4K BR player. My XB1X was good 4K player, but XSX, the chit barely worked. It would only 4K BR in 1440P. I mostly stream but days where the internet is down, physical media time.

Id rather the bluray player like the sony because u can put whatever disc u want in it audio or video and it plays. It also has a coaxial output and a bluetooth transmitter.

Thanks for the comparison! I like the LED lights too. They really helped me notice differences when I was concentrating on certain parts of the screen. I don't see a significant difference between the two in terms of contrast (though there is a difference), but the lack of Dolby Vision in the Xbox gives me pause. Perhaps in a future firmware update?

Hey. Thank you for the video. I just upgraded from a sweet samsung plasma, calibrated tv to a samsung 4K tv. I just played a UHD DVD (top gun) on the Xbox and I was really impressed. I started thinking can this be better and should I spend a few hundred upgrading to a better player. Your video helped me save some cash as I was actually impressed to see the comparison. Was the video fidelity setting on the xbox set to the default 8 bit or did you bump it up to 10bit for your tests? I think the default on the Sony Blu-ray player is 10bit.

For the money, the Panasonic DP-UB820 is the best 4K player. Bring one in for review and you'll see why. Best player I've used so far for my 4K discs.

Unfortunately, there’s always going to be something better. Just received and tested my Pioneer LX-500 yesterday and the PQ is remarkably better than my x800m2 due to tone mapping. But in the end we all win. UHD BD media is just better PQ and sound wise compared to streaming at this point in time.

@@taxi615 If you're looking at $300 4K blu-ray players you may as well stick with an Xbox as low end 4K players are pretty much on par. A decent $500 player will give you a superior experience and a $1000 player will give you a night and day difference, but unless you're a videophile you won't care to spend more than $300 on a player anyway.

Excellent Video! I'll Keep my Xbox One X. so many people in these comments are biased AF :) The Xbox One X may not be the best but the fact that it does everything well, it earns a space in my rack. I can have Hulu, Amazon Prime, KZbin TV or any other streaming service and play 4k Discs from one machine and that makes it well worth it. Plus it's cheaper than most mid tier dedicated players.

Most people that a probally only real movie collectors will even care about color accuracy. If your talking about the a hard core gamer that collects more games than movies imo the one s and one x still provide a very nice picture that will still look better than most blu rays regaurdless

@@adamsultana8380 it had really good picture quality it is a good bluray player , i just couldn't use it for my needs i have a projector with an anamorphic lens and paired with the oppo 203 stretch feature it turns letter movies to full screen without losing anything and i rip all my 4k bluray movies the oppo plays all my mkv files with atmos the pansonic wouldn'tnot play them all the files and wouldn't play them in atmos , the oppo will even play a ultra hd and bluray folder i have a bay 12 terabyte each synolgy have plug into my oppo. If i just use disc and just was using a tv and not ripping my movies i would have kept the pansonic i gave it to my son.

It is all done in the digital domain and there is no reason why a console, the most expensive player you can buy, or the cheapest one you find on Ebay, (if they work and support the same formats) will look any different. Any differences will be due to post processing of the video in the player and it is important to ensure any players being compared have options to disable any processing of the video and so pass it through unchanged. The differences in contrast appear to be due to the TV, the contrast will vary depending on the temperature of the panel and TV as this effects all manner of things. An OLED TV, warmer pixels will have a different light output, on an LCD display the LCD pixels will twist slightly differently depending on temperature and LED backlights will change their light output slightly with temperature. It might also be possible the X-BOX is processing the output differently and applying some form of colour management based on any stored colour profiles it has and has picked based on how the TV is reporting itself. The best test free from most of the above variables would be to use an HDMI capture device then take stills from that and compare the differences on a PC.

To my eye the Sony UBP has the slight edge but its so slight it is almost indistinguishable. It was more apparent with the 1st video in regards to contrast, more subtle, but it really adds very little to the overall viewing experience. If I had the money I would get the XSX as you would get a gaming console on top of a 4K Blu Ray player

I’m afraid to buy any 4K player. I first had the Samsung 4K player and after a year it would start making these weird noises with some discs. Then I replaced it with the first Sony 4k player and it freezes here and there, I need to unplug it from the wall to get it back working. A lot of people actually complain about the freezing so because of that I’m very hesitant to buy another Sony 4K player. I’m now on my 3rd 4K player the Panasonic dp ub820 and so far so good

I did a similar comparison a wild ago and people didn't believed me, some say that higher end players like Oppo or Panasonic do make a difference but I still believe that the xbox one has a great player and a great price.

I just got a new Samsung 4K tv and the Sony 800M2.. and the pictures don’t looks that bright!! 😞 in fact my ps4pro makes the picture look way better and I don’t know why!? I did everything on set up for tv and players ...I wondering if I don’t have the righ HDMI Cable!?! Help anyone!!

Game mode on the ps4 can alter the true look of the movie. I would change the settings of your TV to standard or vivid

The two Blu Ray players I have used would freeze restart themselves x box one x works without any issue. One Player was 1080p Sony other was Samsung 4k .

I have a Xbox one s, and a lg HD TV, not even 4k and Blu-ray movies look great. It keep looking for weird issues, but I'm not seeing anything. I'll get a 4k TV down the road. But I'm not in any hurry.
