there has been some good sponsors i seen, there is just a lot who share trash like when NordVPN was being marketed by even people who wasn't even a tech channel were doing it. even betterhelp i think it was that was also trash.

Most entertainers are simply charlatans when it comes to sponsors - they take the money without knowing if the product or service is any good. It's disappointing to see some favourites of mine recommend bad or nonsense products because they don't know any better - I don't believe they're being malicious, just ignorant. Buyer beware.

It's absurd that you have the right to ask them to delete the data but not to punish them for getting and sharing the data without permission in the first place.

You agreed when you accepted the terms you didn't read. Yes there are situations where terms are not known and clear. And yes they do try and hid it. But if you actually read the TC it tells you what they will do with your data. And will SOMETIMES contain an opt out.

Actually no. For example i use a fork of youtube. I use a modified client with no tracking or account detials. You literally cant log in via this client. If youtube take my data i have signed nothing. And in my country it is perfectly legal to access websites via what ever method you want.

Product components, warnings and documents for repairs and parts 4. Transparency on shrinkflation/skimpflation Normal everyday consumers just don't have the time or energy to pay attention to ALL of this.

Also product ownership of digital media like video games and films. Shrinkflation is fundamentally due to actual literal inflation of the currency supply, but there are corporations certainly using this current economic environment as an excuse to raise prices.

THE DEFAULT FOR WEBSITES SHOULD BE "OPT OUT OF SELLING & STORING PERSONAL INFORMATION DATA" and it SHOULD BE REQUIRED BY FEDERAL & STATE LAW. and it should be a CHOICE to "opt in". NOT the other way around. With AI, data theft (i.e. NPD Breech Social Security Numbers etc.... being bogus stolen)

You try to keep your data off by providing throwaway emails, online only phone to verify bot stuff, placeholder names and po boxes and last of all a privacy card. Also setup a good ad blocking system, both system and dns sided.

These only check 13 sites. Some of these services track almost 200. That's a big enough difference that I'm not sure the study is statistically meaningful.

My question is how do these services protect your information that they are deleting? If they are so cheap and just running scripts I am sure they are a big target now to breach. $20 a yr as an example what layers of security can they really be using?

They (EasyOptOuts) keep as little info on hand as possible - only that which is neccessary to identify the person to be opted out. And of course, what EasyOptOuts asks for is no more than the info the sites already have. BTW, a totally automated process means your info is not in the hands of random low level worker-bees, possibly located in low wage countries and not under the direct control of the removal company. In my opinion, a totally automated process is much, much safer.

What is the incentive for data removal services to do a thorough job in a month? Wouldn't people cancel their service after a month? I use them and it seems like they string you along forever.

It's a never-ending struggle with data, so I believe the services don't even need to be lazy or negligent to guarantee repeat business. Data is collected, compiled, repackaged and sold all the time.

The incentives are to make more money by collecting subscriptions for perpetual data removal services. Who owns the data deletion services? That’s right, they’re data brokers too. They can sell your data when they are acquired by someone else.

The biggest differences between US and EU is GDPR of the EU. If you are in Europe you ASK for example incogni to act on your behalf based on a law. Out Side of Europe you May Not have a law that helps so they basicly Just beg for removal.

Yeah no way I would spend the time doing manually. I bet it would take a month. I'm pay for optery personally and it does a lot of sites. I have tested the results and haven't found anything on me on the sites they claimed to remove data on.

How do these services work in the first place? Do they get a hash of your private data to check against the hash of what the datarobbers have, or do you have to give them your personal data and hope the datarobbers don't actually just add that additional piece of info to their database, and maybe with some time-out to keep it hidden while they're checked for deletion....

I'd be interested to know if the data removal service failed in 35% of cases, or if they succeeded in getting all brokers to delete their data, but then the brokers reacquired the personal data, so it made it look like the removal service did nothing. It's one of the reasons I've been hesitant to use a data removal service. Couldn't my data just get bought/sold again?

Kinda wierd that people are actually paying for data removal services. The built in removal service in the google app works well enough and its free... Never had it fail to remove, and thats over the course of about ten attempts now. Its 10 for 10..

why are these subscriptions, why would you spend multiple years of a subscription if you could just implement better opsec to reduce your data leaking? its fair enough most people can't maintain good enough opsec to keep their stuff out of these systems, but it shouldn't be a constant subscription, maybe 4, or 2 years, at a stretch once per year, yeah its a long process and getting up to date reports is an important part of the service, but its still wild it could be sipping your money in the background forever

They certainly are a thing in the US, but selling data is a fundamental part of surveillance capitalism. If you use online services, chances are your data is being sold - then it's a matter of someone making it a business to sell it in your area or country.

@@Slugbunny And I am not bothered at all. They are trading with my data, so what? To target me with ads? I block ads wherever possible, they are wasting their money on me. I fix broken things instead of choking them and buying new. Brands mean nothing to me in principle, going with cheap plain clothes or accessories. I pay for quality where it is needed, but not because they showed it to me in the TV, or my browser -which has ads blocked. Consumerism is a plague.
