Are Dispatch Services Legal| FMCSA Cracking Down?

My thoughts exactly! Dispatchers are "assistants" to carriers. Carriers have a right to hire "help" no different than a company owner who hires a personal assistant. Every industry has people who blur the lines - it makes it unfortunate for those of use who operate ethically.

As long as a dispatcher only works with carriers they will always be legal. And the only capacity a dispatcher has in working with a broker is securing/negotiating the load for carriers they have been hired to work on behalf of. Dispatchers cannot make direct contact with shippers that would be operating illegally.

Cause some of these dispatchers are out of the country have never lived here and they don’t know the roads or understand our logistics and they don’t understand they work for the carrier. I legit called the fmcsa about it this morning cause I didn’t want to get my mc and start hiring owner operators without understanding the business first . It blows me how me o/o’s don’t know anything about business really. So hopefully I can help some guys I know make a lot money

Yeah unfortunately, with such a low barrier of entry to be a dispatcher and no way to really check credibility, there is a lot of that out there. Good for you for doing your homework.

Hi I'm looking into getting my own authority and need to stay pretty local i live in UT. And was wondering about a box truck and if I could make good money staying in UT, AZ, NV, ID, Maybe WY also if so what type of box will bring the most money I'll be a solo driver supporting my wife and myself any and all help would be greatly appreciated thanks

A dispatcher does NOT have the legal authority to move freight. A Freight Broker does and a Carrier does. A dispatch has to be employed by a Carrier or a Freight Broker to legally move freight! Your opinion has no bearing on whether dispatching is legal or illegal. Just like a real estate agent can not act as an intermediary to sale property but MUST be under the legal authority of a real estate broker! So it is with a dispatcher or a freight agent! They must bring operating UNDER THE AUTHORITY of a legally authorized entity… a Freight Broker or a Carrier. THAT’S THE LAW!!
