I am with you the promotions. I promote across the board at 2% up to about 4% for some items. I have tried listings without promotions and really didn’t get many sales. When I put up competitive items promote from the start. If they are unique or one of a kind, I don’t promote until it’s been up for a while. My ROI on promotions is $32.14 per dollar spent. I don’t have enough followers on my store to not use promotions. Even with promotions, my total cost per sale is less than 20%. You can’t hardly run any business that cheap. I just make sure I add in that to my costs so I am profitable. This is a great subject for this time of year. Thanks for the informative video!

Hey Rod..been awhile since ive commented.. doesn't mean I haven't been watching every single Video you put out..ive learned so much from you & the boys..you especially cause we love the same things! I promote everything mostly cause im afraid not to! But ive gradually decreased from the suggested to about 7.5 over the course of my year long carrer. Just FYI.. talking about "old music"..ive discovered lately Most Rap & Hip Hop CDs are selling great..not just cassettes. Sold a Snoop Doggy style for $25, Outkast for 20 and Dre original Chronic for $20 this past week.. keep it up buddy! Also look forward to everything you do!

I’ve never promoted and have good sales, but because of these past few weeks of very up and down sales, I decided to promote for the weekend and will see how it goes. The first day seemed to boost my sales by double, but will take a look when the weekend is over and see if it was worth it. I did 3.4%.

I’m interested to see how it works for you. You may need a long sample sizes of time to see how it’s working for you. Keep in mind that it is also 6 weeks before Christmas. We all should have a natural bump in sales.

THANK YOU! Finally I understand it! I couldn't figure out why I was paying so much more than the old timers. I thought it was because I didn't have a store yet. Yes, I promote high but I thought I had to for some reason. I guess it would be better off to get a store. I wanted to wait until January. The cats made me laugh!

Hopefully this helps. Getting a store really comes down to how many items you are listing. If you have over 250 items in your store I would recommend getting on. It will save you money in the long run.

I have 1600 items in my store - I promote Items like polo shirts, shoes, hats, at 5.1 percent because there is a lot of competition on stuff like that. That is probably 1/4 of my items. The rest I do not promote because they have very little competition and so my item will show on the first page of a search. I do think I would have a few more sales if I were to promote everything but I do not think the Return On Ad Spend would be worth it. Good Video!

You mention pressing and grading cost for the comic books. How do you get the value to sell if it’s not sold comps? Any extra steps need before shipping?

If there are no sold comps of that grade. You can look at grades above and below it to find a center range to list the book for sale. Comic book slabs are easy to ship. There is a priority mail box that fits them perfectly. You can put a piece of card board over the front and back of the slab before you wrap it in bubble wrap. That helps give it added protection. I also put an extra layer on the top and bottom of the slab for extra protection.

I promote all my inventory at 5%. I want my listings to be higher on the page and have seen an increase in sales. I can afford an extra nickle per dollar for more eyeballs.

I feel like promoted listings is one of those things where you have to find just the right recipe. I've had higher % totally bomb then I drop it 2% and suddenly it kicks in... and it feels like it's always changing.

Here is the TRUTH.. Promoted listings are just an additional fee designed to fill eBay’s coffers. Does it then become an arms race to see who pays the most percent? Sellers in competitive categories may get a temporary sales boost but it's really at the expense of other sellers. Eventually those sellers losing their sales will also start promoting and... here you can see the problem. A few years down the road, we may be all be paying 5-10% promotions just to get the same level of sales as we had before.

Hi Rod, thanks for this info. Almost all of my listings,1150, which 95% is jewelry pricing from $199-2000 I have sold some expensive ones and calculated the fee for eBay i was like really?!. But I do sell the expensive ones so i am afraid if I change it will not sell. 😊

Yes, that’s a tough one. I would check your analytics to see how many of your sales come from promoted listings.

I've tried promoted at 12% dynamic as a few people suggested to me but I found Ebay took about 60% in total total fees because of my shipping costs in Canada is so much, and 15% in taxes here too. Ebay taxes you based on the buyers shipping rate then they tax you on all the other fees too. I also tried 10% for a long time and eventually I put it down to 5%. With a strike on for Canada Post now ... not sure if there's any point having it set for more then 5%. People here aren't really buying unless they can local pickup.

@@FlippingandPunching Tell me about it. I used to get most of my income from selling on Ebay and right now my sales are almost non-existent because of this. If they don't this get this worked out asap it's going to ruin the economy in Canada worse then it was already. and so many people buy online and won't be able to do it as much or may not feel like it's safe to do. It might help local sales though as long as they aren't getting their stuff from Canada Post. It would nice if Ebay would not penalize people for not being able to ship ... but right now they are holding people to shipping schedules and still penalizing us if we are late or for cancellations.
