Are Egg Cartons Really Good for Soundproofing? (Spoiler: No!)

Myth busters, the use of egg cartons is never recommended for soundproofing but perhaps it can be meagerly used in acoustics and sound control.

What if you paint them? Theres primers that have anti mold chemicals in them like Kilzs primer

Honestly it’s not really about the mold, that is if you want to have them for soundproofing! In order to use any material for efficient soundproofing they should have at least a quarter of a wavelengths thickness.

yeah well what if you layer them? double maybe even triple layer, you can get a 6x6 egg carton, 8 cents a piece, or even for free if you just ask at a restaurant

Still not a good idea, I will make a short specially for your question soon with an explanation. But in short imagine it like this for sound isolation 3 factors are important, -density -continuity of structure -no defects Egg cartons are basically non of these, if you lay carpets or double layer carpets they would work way better than Egg cartons.

​ @homayoontv when explaning something.. please explain in full. not just half. watch this kzbin.info/www/bejne/emTTgquBnqypbsU egg cartons are not completely useless. explain the thing happen when sound wave hit egg cartoon.. and how it can help. watched ur 2nd video.. yea you mention it can reduce up to 26 db.. which is not bad..i did saw some sound proofing material which only reduce about 20-30+ db.. so egg cartons is not bad and yea maybe paint it just my humble opinion.. no offense cheers
