7:10 - Stranger of Paradise really caught me off guard. When it was first announced I really hated what I was seeing... then the memes started coming, and my curiosity started to grow. I picked it up on sale and was really surprised not only by how much I liked the game, but by how "Final Fantasy" it actually felt, compared to more recent mainline titles. I'm going to disagree about the DLC, though. While the Trials of the Dragon King can be monotonous (though Summoner is a neat class), after that things ramp up in the rogue-lite Rift with access to accessories that just give you the effect of a class' 400% affinity, as well gaining the Blue Mage class and more item tweaking options. Finally, Different Future breaks things wide open with the gear you can get from Lufenian difficulty which really lets you create plenty of fun and interesting builds, as well as having a very interesting and heartfelt conclusion to the story. The DLC also gives you access to Gunner and Pilgrim classes early on. While Pilgrim isn't my cup of tea, Gunner saved my bacon MANY times. The funniest thing about Stranger of Paradise, to me, is that apparently Nomura and the rest of the devs were completely baffled by the memes and reception of the game, because they intended it to be taken 100% seriously, while a good chunk of the game is some of the best unintentional comedy I've seen.

Yeah I only recommended the game to my friends because I was like "I heard the game was fun, and it's multiplayer, let's try it" and was totally surprised at how awesome it is. On the DLC though, I agree that a lot of the gameplay-related stuff is fun, and the Rift DLC is definitely my favorite part about it, but the new bosses are so insanely hard that it drained all of our enjoyment from the rest of the game. The mecha-dragon-thing, the Emperor, Omega, it was just way too much for us. Also yes, the fact that the devs didn't understand why their trailers were meme-able is still funny in its own way.

The way the bravely series handles red mage is interesting, giving them a bunch of really good abillities (mostly ones that let you generate bp) that make it very worth going through. That does mean you kinda just get the abilities and then use them on other jobs instead, but it at least has longer viability as a main job than a lot of it's other appearances due to it's decent utility and the general mechanics of bd

Having rolled Monk/Ranger in a Fiesta a few years back, yeah, Rapid Fire Monk is strong as heck. Granted, having Time Mage/Chemist helped, but even then it's strong. I will say, PR definitely helps buff Monk, with Focus/Kick no longer being row dependent and weapons actually effecting Kick on Monk.

One of the ideas I've had for a balance change for this game is being able to swap out your first ability for another one from the same class. E.g. letting Monk replace Kick with Focus. It would definitely help a lot of melee classes.

That'd be cool, a very unique way of balancing. I know there's a mod (Custom Classes, I think?) that lets every job be like Freelancer, which is a little overkill if you ask me, so I like this idea way more.

The comment at 0:59 definitely has a good point with Dragoon. All it genuinely has going for it is Dragon Lance, and even that requires a lot of time investment since they're only rare steals. On top of that, you NEED to run Dual Wield on it for it to even be viable just so Jump can keep up with other classes who don't need as much investment, and even then you NEED Dragon Lance because Holy Lance falls off incredibly hard when compared to Excalibur or Masamune in terms of raw damage and support utility

I've always kind of hated how imbalanced some of the legendary weapons are. Especially since by about the time you've gotten them all, a standard run is likely to be seeing the entire party switched to Freelancers anyway. So despite having these 12 weapons at your disposal, most endgame parties are likely to only ever be using the same handful of those weapons. Making the time spent to get certain ones of them feel like a waste of time every time. Like, I've beaten this game several times. Yet there are probably a few of the legendary weapons that I've never even used, because they just don't seem worth bothering when there are such stronger options that I probably chose first when delivering the tablets.

21:21 You talked about Ike from an outsider's perspective so I might as well spiel. Ike is weird, in Fe9 the game where he is the main lord he's hardly this unique special lord you describe, he's basically the standard weak lord who's got very generalist growths and enough speed to double like most lords surrounded by units who are a better investment of resources than he is, FE9 just has some traits to it that heavy encourage play patterns where you give Ike a bunch of favoritism and then by the time of the end game he's this super strong beast of a man that you perceive as amazing despite the fact it took giving constant favoritism throughout the game to reach that point. The fact the final boss can be damage by 3 units your army max one of which you recruit after already killing the final bosses first phase doesn't help either... Ike's a very mediocre, not bad mind you just mediocre (like the job's your using) unit in a game that gives you both the tools and the incentives to turn him into an amazing unit and you will because the plot mandates you'll suffer if you don't be bias in his favor. In FE10 he plays just as you'd expect smash bros Ike to be, he's a hulking bruiser of a guy with speed problems after his many steroid injections in FE9, which is weird because his Smash appearance started as being based on his FE9 appearance where he wasn't a hulking bruiser in the slightest.

I think a video going over balance patch ideas could be quite interesting. My suggestions: 1) Bug Fixes. 2) Increase availability & choices for neglected weapon types. 3) I would also make it easier to see when your opponents have been inflicted with status conditions by placing little icons at the top of their sprites. This will make using debuff skills much easier and feel more rewarding. 4) I think Knight is in a good place and wouldn't suggest any changes 5) For Monks, I would introduce a weapon type for them, probably fists or nunchucks to allow them to be more competitive in the late game. Kick should be a learnable skill, and I would introduce a "Equip Fists" skill that worked the normal way for them. I'd also move the +X% HP skills. Monk would keep the +30%, but the +20% would be moved to Beserker and the +10% to the Dragoon. Learning these skills would increase the total over percentage increase provided by a single +X% HP skill, so you don't need to allocated more than 1 skill slot to them to get the full benefit. 6) For the Thief, I would change it so that their MUG! skill would replace their Attack command once it is learned. The bug fix for knife damage should help with their damage output. 7) For Black Mage, the only change I would make is change the +X% MP skills to work the same way as I changed the +X% HP. 8) White Mages are also in generally a good place, but I would also let them equip Hammers as a reference to FF1. 9) Blue Mage's Scan! would replace the Check! command when learned. 10) For Red Mages I would let them learn a 4th level of magic, and Dualcast would replace their Red Magic Command when learned. 11) Time Mages wouldn't require any changes. 12) Summoners wouldn't require any changes. 13) I would make a massive change to Berserkers. Instead of always been under the Berserk condition, they would have a (learnable) skill called "Rage!" which would inflict the Berserk condition on them, and cure any status conditions they are afflicted with. I feel this will make them a much more interesting class to play. I would also give them the +20% HP skill, as mentioned above. 14) Mystic Knight is in a good place. 15) Mime doesn't require any changes. 16) Beastmasters are surprisingly good, but I would change their Calm! command a little bit. It would apply the stop status to most enemies (as it is suppose to), but it will also attempt to apply the Confuse status as well with a chance based on your character's level/100. 17) Geomancers would gain the ability to equip rods and have an "equip bells" skill. 18) Ninjas are in a good place. 19) Rangers are in a good place. 20) Bards need a lot of help. The damage formula for harps needs to be changed, and I would also give them the ability to equip bells as well. If possible, I would want to introduce more songs to provide them different options as well, but keep it focused on applying buffs and debuffs. Maybe introduce a song to playing each piano to allow them to apply protection, shell, float to the party? I think there is a lot of things that can be done with the Bard. 21) Dragoon is another job in need of a re-balance. First, I would let them equip all weapons usable in the back row, including rods & staves. This would open up a lot of different options for them and I want to give them a bit of a unique role as the master of the back row. Second, I would change jump so it deals double damage with most weapons, and 4 times the normal damage with spears. 22) I don't really think we can "fix" the Dancer without taking away from it's core identity. I would have it so that each piece of dancer equipment swaps out a different dance for sword dance, making it be always used if you are wearing the entire set. I would also change the flirt command to have a chance to apply the berserk status, allowing it to be used to counter mage-like enemies while making it distinct from the Beastmaster's Calm. 23) Samurai are in a good place. 24) Chemist is in a good place. 25) I am not sure what to do with the GBA only jobs, as I have never actually played with them. 26) Ideally, this would also be a bit of a randomizer, allow you to change up which jobs show up in each crystal. I would also make sure that the increased availability of weapon types would allow early used of specific weapon types to get access to them in the early game. 27) I am sure that there would be tweaks to individual class stats, but I would want to do those after playtesting the above.
@RoninCatholic12 күн бұрын
The GBA only jobs...Necromancer is basically just "Summoner Plus" from what it looks like. Cannoneer could just have shops that sell its ammo available earlier if we were going to make it available any earlier as a job. Gladiator is a straightforward melee class designed for late/postgame adventures and to no shock at all, is solid the way it is.
@MusicoftheDamned9 күн бұрын
Without touching stats or changing any of its abilities, one could probably buff Dancer in a significant way simply by making Swords Dance always be full damage even from the back row. That helps get around Dancer's stupidly squishy HP a lot without having to actually change said HP. Other than that, for Dancer you could probably just make some of the Dancer-only equipment come earlier and/or more frequently. Shrug. Good list of changes otherwise.

-Thunder element is ok, required lobster bosses Karlabos and Crayclaw are pushovers with it and Sol Cannon hates it as well. Nothing after that until optional Omega and Leviathan...OK if you're anti-lamp you can AoE the trench triplet piggies with Thunder as none of them absorb that element. Lots of teams will skip going to the trench anyway. Fire is most important overall, used for required bosses Byblos, Melusine, and Apanda. There's also Shiva if you care to burn her, and somehow three of the crystal guardians are vulnerable to fire but immune to ice and thunder so that's a point for fire as well. -Since you don't play on PR, you might try the ez double release quick kill against Archaeoavis sometime: Release a Ronka Knight and an Aegir, and wait a few seconds. The Ronka Knight does just under the 1600 HP of the first form, and the Aegir inflicts HP leak. When this form dies to HP leak (and basically when any enemy in the game dies to HP leak), it skips the other forms and ends the fight entirely. Speedruns used to do this before they found methods that were faster than catching a couple enemies quickly. It's possible on PR, but the Ronka Knight release damage varies more and the HP leak is super slow so it's not reliable. -Good job finding the best crystal guardians release, Sandcrawler. Not the most reliable, but not too bad either if you're willing to take as few as 2 crystals down to single-digit HP at once. Even if the crystals weren't immune to Holy, Shield Dragon stats are bad so its Almagest is wimpy. -Your CED fight would have gone better if you just had more rods, remember that for your fiesta runs hehe. Red mage on PR really benefits a ton from boosted rod breaking being stupid OP, it's the older versions of the game where Red is so mediocre after W1. -LMAO not surprised you skipped showing the Omni fight since chipping away at him with a solo Red mage using -aras takes quite a while. My advice for the future is to catch a Zuu and Release it immediately after getting a starting whip paralysis proc against Omni to remove half his HP. You could also release a second one, maybe after getting a Silence cast to stick on him and then he'll kill himself with reflected damage. On PR, he doesn't even try to cast Return when you release a Zuu against him so it's even easier. PR also makes the Magic Pots run away every time when you give them an elixir instead of the 1/3 chance of it used in older versions. -Dualcast rules with a Black, Time, Summoner, or White mage in your party to utilize it. Otherwise, yeah it's mostly utility and hey you can dualcast Libra on the two remaining parts of NED so you'll be sure to kill them at the same time! -Odin's Zantetsuken when fighting him just rolls Comet individually on all 4 of your party members. So yeah it's a magic attack, and Shell does help you survive it. Red mage is no help there...again. -Rune Blade Red mage with a tiara using Dance is sneaky strong too, if you ever roll that combo. -I would probably rate Monk worse than Thief in old versions, but PR Monk has quirks that generally make it better. Focus does full damage from the back row, Equip X with a strong weapon equipped makes for good AoE Kick damage, etc. Plus older versions of Thieves will always go first in party order so you can get away from fights more easily and reliably. PR also includes some QoL stuff that renders a lot of Thief's utility irrelevant. -They can't give Calo Curaga, that would be a full heal reflected on herself every time she uses it. She is indeed a pushover for almost any party you can imagine though. -I saw you don't like to break a lot of rods, but some of these late-game fights like Apanda and Azulmagia rod breaking is often Red's best offense. -Pre-frog strats vs. Hali, pro play Red mage! BTW you hitting Hali with Mini was an extremely low chance so congrats on that one! -Fun strat vs. TT, you can also Toad it when it's charging up Gigaflare if needed lmao! -Impressive King Behemoth releases for Gigaflare, Beastmaster has imo the best end credits move where it does that. -Krile should be holding the Aegis shield in the final fight, it gives complete immunity to white hole in old versions of the game (it's also the best general-use shield in the game). -Fun that you caught a Crystelle and put up Mighty Guard against NED. You prrrrrobably didn't need to and could have gone with another big damage AoE release, but either way things will get scary near the end. -Good times, thanks for another fun FFV video!

14:45 I don't know what the books' titles were or how the shelves were set up in the original, but Japanese is composed of syllables--either a vowel (a, i, u, e, o) or a consonant followed by a vowel (ka, ki, ku, ke, ko; ra, ri, ru, re, ro, etc.). So Japanese indices are organized by the first syllable: first everything starting with "a," then "i," all through the vowels before moving on to everything starting with "ka," then "ki," and so on, all through the consonants. It could be that the fan translation kept the corresponding bookshelves the same despite the names now being in English, so there's no longer any pattern.

Alright, so, I can comment on the Dissidia stuff given that I actually played the game competitively for quite a while, but I'll keep it somewhat brief. Exdeath: Omniblock is, indeed, very strong. But it would mean nothing if the Opponent had no reason to approach. The real reason he's so good in 012 specifically is because he has the fastest and safest Assist generation in the game. By canceling his HPs into a Block, which can then be canceled into a Dash within about 4 frames at 60 fps (FPS in this game is *really* weird and a topic for another day), and alternating his HPs means he gets a full meter in >2 seconds. Pair that with his absolutely cracked Assist Synergy, it makes it so incredibly hard to get a hit in on him. It's to the point where you need to have an EX centric build just for him. Prishe: One-Inch Punch when charged causes it to become Melee High, completely crushing most Blocks in the game. Raging Fists can be comboed without hitting, allowing it to cover Dodges. Pair that with both being able to combo into an HP via Assist and really safe Assist Generation, and you've got 50/50 the character and she is horrifying. Jecht: Definitely one of the highest skill floors and ceiling in the game. Jecht Block is a Block that's essentially Melee High priority, and it allows him to actually approach Zoners. His Attacks are also fairly fast with a bit more of a disjoint than it initially appears. If you can get combos down, you've got a monster that hates whiffing. Whiffing with Jecht on anything is like putting a giant kick me sign on him. But yeah, if you're curious about anything more on Dissidia 012 and its PvP, check out Dissidia Community. We're finally starting to explore potentially allowing Feral Chaos (with notable restrictions), so things are developing a ton.

Fire Emblem mentioned! Ok so most FE lords are *really* bad units. Theyre generally fast, but they do not deal damage and if they die its a game over. This is most obvious with units like Marth (specifically in Shadow Dragon) and Roy, who are just awful. Roy in particular is basically unusable as a combat unit until the last 4 chapters of his game. As for Ike, he's just sligjtly better than Roy for most of Path of Radiance. They have nearly 1:1 stats at base, and similar growths. The big difference is that Ike promotes earlier, and his attack speed is higher due to game mechanics. Then in the next game, Radiant Dawn, he has a huge lead in strength, speed, and defense over most other units. He hits like a truck, and takes hits like a truck. Having him be a hard hitter in smash makes sense, and for balance reasons that means he has to be a bit slower than someone like Marth who is notably weak.
@screwtokaiba12 күн бұрын
Its only GBA Marth was high top tier in 3, best character in the game in 1. And Marths entire thing was having the best offense of the roster for a long time. Sigurd was Seth original rival for best character in the franchise overall. Seliph is functionally not too different to Sigurd and is effectively a new game+ character. Alm is at least top 3. Leif is commonly considered top tier nowadays. Its just GBA where Late Promotion in modern stats system + Hector and Ephraim being the only decent lord that had most of them sucking. Also after this point Chrom is like top 3
@Suprapika12 күн бұрын
I do know that Roy is terribad, but I've always been under the impression that he's the exception rather than the rule. I've only played PoR/RD/SS/the one with Eliwood, and all the Lords in those games seemed great to me. Aside from Eirika, she was kinda bad (if she counts as a Lord, I know Ephraim is the "real" Lord of that game).
@screwtokaiba12 күн бұрын
@@Suprapika Eliwood is commonly considered Mediocre. Lyn is bad. Tbh i think if you play Lyn mode, even on HHM Lyn had passable stats due to how the game works, but default Lyn joins a bit too late for her stats(shes notably worse than Guy who is already spotty) The dna of why Roy sucks kinda exists on gba lords with swords and SD Marth and some was by accident. Basically back in Famicom to early snes era, Lords was balanced around being ok early game(bandit phase) and a nuclear bomb against horses. Marth actually does the best against Lances in combat across the board. In fact Marth was the ONLY character who have effective damage against Paladins in FE1 This got changed in FE4 with Sigurd NOT having Rapier and his target enemy was primary axe bandits kingdom. Note that even if the rapier disconnect happened in these games, it wont matter as much because Kaga games was notorious with how blatantly better Swords are over every weapon type(meanwhile Axe barely exists) Roy got saddled with low base stats, late promotion, sword is no longer a blatantly godlike weapom type, and Rapier being 5 MT didnt play well with the higher stats standard of FE6 and on top of this, Weapom Triangle was buffed in Roys game and is now on horses and armor the rapiers are meant to be used for before the system existed. Multiples of these was also found on every Lords up to Awakening Funny enough Roy Rapier is 5 MT. I believe its 15 mt on super effective, and 12 MT on Lance SE because the Triangle substraction is counted towards the effective multiplier damage In Japanese FE7 Mani Katti of Lyn would be 24/21 and Rapier of Eliwood would be 21/18 but FE7 NA changed the effectiveness formula from 3x go 2x, making Mani Katti 16/14 and Rapier 14/12. So they essentially undo the buff

Since it came up, versatility is absolutely what makes the Blue Mage so much fun to use. Sure, many of its spells aren't as powerful as what you'll get out of a Black Mage or Summoner, and it may not be as consistently useful as other jobs. But it has so many delightfully situational spells that it's just fun to use, and really opens up your solutions to varying combat scenarios in a way that no other job can achieve. Not to mention that when you are in the right situation (such as a group of normal enemies whose levels are all divisible by 5), that niche job suddenly has the power to lay waste to your foes with minimal effort. It's just that at the same time, the Blue Mage can also sometimes feel burdensome when you're not in one of those sorts of situations.

Chakra should apply Haste to its user so you can quickly stack up Focus, as well as get more of the sadly weak bareknuckled punches in. I think it makes thematic sense for the class, and maybe the AB required to learn it could be vastly heightened so it's not an overpowered strat. Monk is my favourite class in FF1, so it hurts to see it so underwhelming in my favourite FF game.

Finally an uploader inquiring about Fire Emblem in an unrelated game, now I am given carte blanche to yap. Ike in 9 (Path of Radiance) is a very typical light, accurate & fast swordfighter akin to marth/chrom/lucina. I barely player Smash but, imo, it has no shortage of these guys. In Fire Emblem 10 (Radiant Dawn) Ike is one of the fastest units you'll have available but he also isn't likely to level speed much beyond his base. Ike instead just starts with a big lead in speed compared to most of his contemporaries beside Shinnon (Cannot melee) and Mia (Very frail). The game usually has players use Ike a lot since he's very good initially, lucks into a few critical speed levels, promotes and continues to steamroll the faceless horde. Also playing on medium/lower difficulties makes the speed benchmarks less demanding. Fire Emblem tries designs the lords not getting doubled (lacking speed) since they're game overs and that's an easy way to alleviate not dying. However in design/vibes Ike in gameplay, and visual silhouette can be way more distinct by depicting him closer to the juggernaut/ really huge guy, such as Fire Emblem Engage and Smash compared to other lankier FE Lords. For OST's I really like Persona but that's really mainstream. Also Fire Emblem but specifically the more obscure Genealogy of the Holy War has a lot of good vibe songs. Also maybe just pick the less renowned songs from famous games. Or just yoink them from other videos that use video game ost's, like I watched Reverend make RBY OU pokemon videos and uses Jurassic Park from the SNES. Anyway my question for you is could Monk use !Equip Lances to boost Kick damage with strength/attack pumping? that sounds kinda nice if it could work

@Vulkypsin11 күн бұрын
The best descriptor for Dragoon as a job is "Selfish" Its main skill only serves to momentarily protect yourself in the most inconsiderate way as you force your most likely less armored allies to risk damage, while you can equip shields and some of the best armor in the game, and all for a disappointing damage multiplier. Said multiplier for its unique weapon has the audacity to only be usable by the gimmick job who whole thing is customizing and mixing skills and every other job is expected to be left out in the cold for this, while literally every other job potentially offers stronger and more supportive options. Lancet is just a trashy combo Drain/Osmose that wastes a skill slot because Ethers exist and the weak HP drain is not saving someone's life. Its stat block is just kinda there and better stat blocks are there and offer better perks that actually have synergy. It says something about a job where running a team entirely comprised of them is the only argument for its team benefit since the instant you introduce almost any other job to the mix, you see just how shittily niche and conditional it's "synergy" is, where it just boils down to "we jumped at the same time" and it's nothing but a mediocre time-wasting beatstick that kinda just wastes some of your heavy armor and shields.
@Omnicrom12 күн бұрын
As the one FF14 person in the comments, Monk weapons are fun in that game because Monks actually have weapons in the form of various knuckles and claws. You actually have to go get a vanity item to fight fully barehanded in 14. There's also a handful of weapons that are fancy gloves you wear all of the time instead of a variety of beating implements you pull out for fisticuffing but those are pretty scarce - not in the "hard to get" sense so much as "it's easier to make distinctive claws/cestii/Baghnakhs" and also the people who model your fancy glove armor get sad when they have to overwrite those models for Monk weapons. Also, Monks wear most of the same armor of Samurai, but that's not unique. Meanwhile Red Mage is also a funny of mix of things in 14, mechanically the gimmick is that you always have Twincast which in the game is represented as meaning every time you cast a spell you cast your next spell instantly. This means you can cast a fast spell and then immediately follow up with one of their super slow spells. It's honestly somewhat mediocre in terms of caster damage but it stands out as being perhaps the best job to get you out of a pinch since twincast means you can cast Raise every 2.5ish seconds instead of the normal full 8 seconds to cast. Just watch the MP cost (2400 a cast)! Dragoon in FF14 also gets to Jump! And it took a very long time for Jump to not kill you since it locked you in place for a very long time for a very long time. It's less bad these days, in fact it hasn't been bad in a while, but you may get dead'd anyways if you Jump stupidly. In practice, though, your Jumps are only half the story as Dragoon is mostly all about it's super long combos chains. You get to hit people with spears in a truly exciting number of ways in FF14. Beastmaster is slated to come to 14 later this year. It's going to be weird. Also Alte Roite/Jura Avis, Catastrophe, Halicarnassus, and ExDeath are all raid bosses in the game. And yes, Almagest is in the game and rips you in half, and Grand Cross also appears and it does dump a dozen status effects on you. And related to all that, if you need music look at some of FF14's OST, it's very good and there's about 600 tracks from it to choose from.
@Suprapika12 күн бұрын
Its funny that Jump continues to be shit in most games that it's in. It's awful in Stranger of Paradise, which is hilarious. Also my only Monk knowledge is that one guy I used to watch on KZbin, SSoHPKC, was a FF14 Monk player, and he occasionally lamented that Monk is kinda shit. Although that was a long time ago, now I know it's different.
@Omnicrom12 күн бұрын
@@Suprapika Jump is fine as it is in FF14, you just have to not be a goober when using it. Jump is also very good in FFT, assuming you pick appropriate targets. If you do that (and have it leveled up) you can just ruin people from halfway across the planet. Also Spears are very good in FFT, two range is a big deal and Spears are extremely strong weapons and you can Dualhand them and just one-shot people. Honestly the worst thing about Dragoons in FFT is that they can't use light armor except robes, being locked to Helmets sucks in Tactics. As for Monk, the biggest problem they have in current moment FF14 is a complete lack of ranged options. Every other Job gets SOMETHING at a distance even if it's functionally a peashooter filler. If a MNK can keep uptime they can put out impressive damage numbers, but out of melee range they're doing nothing.

Something funny is that i think Mystic Knights are just a better version of Red Mage, they have better stats and access to some black and white magic and despite not casting them directly and lacking the cure line and buffs they do all the Red Mage do and better and both are Water Crystal jobs, i think that something that would make Red Mage more decent would be not having that horrible -6 stamina that gives them lower HP than other mages, maybe learning up to level 4 spells and be able to use shields, they would still be mediocre but at least they would be useful and viable for more parts of the game and getting the 999 ABP would rely more of playing throught the game than just grinding them

I feel like in a balance patch for FF5, Red Mages should get access to at least the -Aga series magics through dualcast if you equip it alongside red magic, considering FF1 red wizards were basically able to use all magic outside SPECIFICALLY stuff only for White and Black Mages. It would at least show they still had room to grow after mastering their abilities, and make them viable as an endgame class (as is all they exist as is a vehicle for OTHER mages to dualcast and to be used to the end of world 1 at best, without using stuff like the runeblade.) And giving monks access to weapons (or literally make claws in general) to inflict status ailments or hit weaknesses (We could literally replace the Gaia Bell, Apolo's Harp or Yoichi's Bow for a holy healing claw and/or a dark status inflicting claw) and give them access to Fire/Thunder/Ice claws in the first world and some status inflicting ones in the second. They don't need, like, a Bad Breath on a claw, but giving them poison, paralysis and a couple other ailments would help them thrive more as a offensive class that CAN also support by debuffing enemies. Which would feel in line with what a martial artist can do (AKA: hitting chakra points to cleanse or inflict ailments as we see in later games, notably with Amarant's flairs in FF9 (deep cut I know, people barely remember his existence as is.))

Spells like Haste and Slow had, up through 4, been either solidly Black or rarely White from game to game and thus firmly in the camp that Red Mages could learn them. Robin, Corrin, and Byleth are okay, but Let Chrom and Lucina use lances, or let Ike use axes and projectile slashes. Roy could be a glass cannon to reflect the fact he's a kinda weak kid with a nuclear reactor of a sword And not to mention all the other characters there could be with different playstyles. We could have axe and lance fighters, archers, mages, characters who fight on horseback or pegasi or wyvern, or even just a straight up dragon. At least Robin, Corrin, and Byleth partially serve some of those roles Personally, some FE characters i think could be cool in Smash are Leif, Arvis, and Tiki. Leif could be like a thief type character to reflect the capture mechanic from Thracia 776, stealing items from other players with a command grab or something, Arvis could be a heavy armor mage, and Tiki could transform into different types of dragons for different attacks, or maybe do a Pyra/Mytha thing with her different dragon forms Also, I have a 3.8k video long music playlist mostly consisting of video game music and remixes of them. There's a lot of remixes of the same songs, but if you need music, I'm sure you can just hit the shuffle button a few times and find something new. Some series i'd recommend for music would be Shin Megami Tensei and all it's spinoffs, Streets of Rage, and King of Fighters (or any SNK game really). I'm also really fond of the OSTs for the indie games LISA, Brutal Orchestra, Anodyne 1 & 2, A Robot Named Fight, and Cave Story. They are also some of my favorite games that I'd recommend in a heartbeat
@Suprapika12 күн бұрын
In a theoretical Smash Bros reboot, ideally the Fire Emblem representation doesn't get so homogeneous. Even if they don't wanna remake all the FE guys, just trimming the characters down to Marth, Ike and Robin would be fine.
@RoninCatholic12 күн бұрын
My tweaks for Roy would be to make him a little more ranged, but still solidly a slowish, heavy swordfighter. Have his current ENTIRE sword hitbox be the "sweet spot", then his Smashes and Specials have an added jet of flame effect out of the Binding Blade that do less damage than the sword hit itself, like his current Sour Spots. I don't just say this because Roy is my favorite Smash character and was even in Melee, even if that's my main reason and the fact that his actual Fire Emblem game gives his sword a 1-2 range with its magic effects is my inspiration for this broken proposition. Just one of those "change him a bit more to be less like his base character, but leave the skeleton in place" like a lot of Ganondorf proposals that don't rewrite his design from the bottom up.
@cosmicskydragon33311 күн бұрын
I'm glad someone else recognizes this, Fire Emblem is represented like Ganondorf and it really does hurt the reputation of the game and led to so much of the hate. FE has unique aspects, it just needs to actually show them like how Robin showcases both Magic and Durability.

@@cosmicskydragon333 To be fair, I've never played any Fire Emblem but I got curious enough about my Melee main to look up gameplay footage of the game he was actually from. I think the PS1 version is probably the best, there's an english patch out there for it, since it was Japan-Only. The PSP and other more modern versions do things with the UI that are... odd, but there's also apparently some kind of expansion involved? Never played it myself. Just remember to go check back in on Elwin and Nancy a lot, and explore towns thoroughly before progressing the plot.

YIIK's soundtrack has always been great. The unfortunate reality of music selections that are both good and unique deep cuts seems to be that, by and large, you're going to have to do the legwork yourself, and even then it's a lot of individual preference. I'd suggest finding a 'sound' you particularly like and going in one of three directions: finding stuff by the same artist, branching off either laterally into games that are similar on a surface level (Kirby to Starfy, Pokemon to Digimon/Yokai Watch, etc), or completely random stuff on the same console depending on what sounds cool or funny; it's how you find out that things like Butt Ugly Martians on GBA and Stuart Little 3: Big Photo Adventure on PS2 have some pretty decent tracks. I'll throw out some random recs, but I tend to favor DnB, moodier tracks, more 'forward-facing' and less ambient, and also MIDIs or FM Genesis/PC Engine tracks, so your mileage will vary: Thunder Force IV, Killer7, Aironauts PS1 is worth a mention, so is basically anything Ryu Umemoto, Ryu Takami, and Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Etrian Odyssey, Ys) have ever made, Skeleton Boomerang, Ape Escape, Monkey Ball, Sonic and Yugioh games always have overlooked gems, Gallop Racer 2000, Road Trip Adventure PS2 (similar MIDI guitar as that one Pokemon Colosseum/XD song); I'll cut myself off there because this is already a lot.

All great suggestions, thanks a bunch! But yeah you're definitely right in that I mostly have to put in the work myself, I kinda did that "game association" thing in an upcoming video, but the main issue is that I'm not knowledgable enough about gaming in general; it's why all my RPG Maker game recommendations are probably ones that 99% of people (that would already play those kinds of games) have played already. I do greatly appreciate the advice, though!

Speaking of the Brave Blade vs Chicken Knife video... Maybe this is a hot take, but I never go for the chicken knife even though it is statistically better than the brave blade. Why? Because most of the spinoff material these days (and even a bit of the official art, based on how those spinoffs depict it) generally seem to imply that Bartz choosing the Brave Blade is at least semi-canon. Outside if FF5 itself, I believe the closest Square has gotten to officially giving FF5's party the chicken knife was the (now closed down) gacha game Dossodia Opera Omnia, where it is given to Faris pretty much solely because she's the dedicated knife wielder in that game while Bartz (who still gets the Brave Blade) is a dedicated sword user (Faris also didn't get any fire elemental abilities, instead using lighting, wind and/or water depending on the skill because Syldra and also because pirate, while Lenna instead was given fire and no water abilities for some reason because Pheonix Summon is also associated with her... So take that as you will). Sorry if this turned out longer and probably could have been worsed better, but that said... Dualcast is pretty much the best thing about Red Mage, but the amount of grinding needed without multipliers is... Impractical if you wanted to make it a defining party feature.

I really like the Red Mage in FF1 but they've done my boy pretty dirty ever since. He's basically Planned Obsolescence: The job, in V. Even when you put in all the work to get dualcast it's still only good on a better spellcaster, so no matter what RM is just something to suffer through. Even if they just gave him access to the -aga spells with dualcast it would have made RM massively more viable (yeah yeah rod smash but if you put up with RM for 999 AP you friggin' earned some better spells).
@Suprapika12 күн бұрын
I think my biggest wants for Red Mage is either, make Dualcast the innate ability once Red Mage is mastered (since you can make other jobs better Red Mages than the Red Mage, because RM is stuck with !Red no matter what), or give them access to level 4 magic. Maybe that's a bit powerful, but it gives them access to Shell, Blink, Esuna, Bio, Break and Drain, which are all amazing spells, but not as overpowered as the level 5 ones. More reliable access to Shell by itself would be fantastic, the Red Mage is definitely one of the most underdeveloped jobs even if it's not the worst in the game.
@DoughboyJonesmk212 күн бұрын
@@Suprapika FF1 RM wasn't great at anything but they were passable at a little bit of everything. I get that the jobs in 1 kinda HAD to be viable to the end but V basically designed them to be worthless 1/3 of the way through the game. And the versatility doesn't even feel all that worth it considering the mix and match nature of V's job system anyway. Maybe it would have made more sense to not get RM until world 2 and give it more spells and/or better stats. Then you get late game viability without making him a completely unbalanced death machine (that's the Blue Mages job!)
@ultimatecalibur12 күн бұрын
Red Mage tends to function better as a platform to equip other !Magic commands on rather than actually using it's own command abilities. It has the highest strength (+8) and agility (+5) of the Mages making it cast faster while still having viable physical damage from say the Ancient Sword, Sleep Blade, Runeblade and Enhancer. No job in FFV is meant to be a solitary island. Red Mage just happens to be more a solid caster foundation that you give more magic to before Mastery rather than something that you quickly master to give abilities to other jobs.
@DoughboyJonesmk212 күн бұрын

The RPG elements in Nioh are a lot less important until like NG+2 or +3. My first time playing Nioh 2 I just leveled up all my stats evenly and it worked out fine. I also think that Nioh leans a lot more towards APM and offense, whereas SoP makes you play to the enemies' rhythm with more emphasized defensive options (dodge, soul shield, parry)

I relied on the red guard way too much in SoP, I basically never regular guarded or parried.
@Maggotbone11 күн бұрын
@Suprapika they can be tricky to time, but parries are very strong. They don't cost any break gauge when performed successfully and indeed grant you a break regeneration buff. When you're low on break, parry is easier to land than soul shield, which is especially relevant for Lunatic users (Berserker's command ability; accelerates all animations but prevents break regeneration). The DLCs only make them better, too, as you're able to make successful parries trigger all kinds of buffs, though I mostly just stick to HP and MP regeneration

So Ike and Roy are basically the same character mechanically in their first games, both are okay early, then suck for most of the game, then at the end promote with an awesome sword. Roy becomes insanely tanky with the 1-2 range binding blade. Ike gets Aether which isn't the most reliable skill since it's not guaranteed to proc. Ike in his second game can get speed screwed, but it's not common. Marth is far and away the best unit in his first game, and is still great in the remakes of his games, just outclassed by more insane units

Other units like Titania, Jill, Oscar, Boyd (has good 1-2 range), and Kieren can do what Ike does but better for most of the game. Ike only becomes a god once he gets Ragnell. I think I agree with Backlog Buster that Dragoon is objectively a worse class than Dancer. Dancer is still bad, don't get me wrong, but Dancer at least brings offense to the table. While, yes, it's inconsistent offense, it's still a lot more than what Dragoon brings to the table. Lances are a terrible weapon type except for one extremely niche use case (NED Dragon Part) and even that use case requires excessive grinding for a rare drop. Lancet is sometimes useful for restoring MP on a mage, I guess. And Jump doesn't help any of the classes except for _other Dragoons_ , and they naturally have that skill as their designated Job command. Meanwhile, Dancer brings the aforementioned Sword Dance, and and can give the entire party a free Ribbon slot, if they so desire it. IMO, status immunity and a 4x damage modifier command 25-50% of the time, and a way to ignore the Flee proc from Chicken Knife seems a lot more desirable when compared to what Dragoon has, honestly. Some semi-useful utility like Confuse (helps Blue Mages) and MP Drain (helps Mage classes) is a bonus. All Dragoon really has going for it is its statblock and better defensive gear. We clowned on Monks being dedicated Hi-Potion chuckers, but I honestly don't see Dragoons being very far behind in that aspect.

I think Red Mage getting Shell by itself would have catapulted the job up a few tiers, honestly. Everything else in tier 4 is great too, but Shell is way too rare of a buff.

@@Suprapika rare and good, not just magic defense after all. It also cuts the success rate of special moves in 1/2

@ I definitely didn't know that, that's pretty sick.

Why would Ranger be mediocre, it provides Rapid Fire.
@Suprapika12 күн бұрын
I mean it's pretty much in a similar boat as Beastmaster, it's not a great job aside from the one awesome ability it gets on mastery. Plus Rapidfire doesn't help a whole lot against bosses like Neo Exdeath.

Rapid Fire can be taken to other jobs, and given the relative weakness of Ranger itself, there's no reason to stay in it once Rapid Fire is learned.

Another thing that should be considered is that Bows are a more varied weapon type than Whips and they both can use Chicken Knife cheese, so it feels like Ranger would perform more admirable. They also have Animals which can be used more often in combat than Catch/Release and is essentially a somewhat better Gaia since it can pull Nightingale for healing support.

Thats like firing bullets from a slingshot. Sure it's a good projectile but you're using a rubber band instead of a gun.

one other trick Ranger has is the darkness bow, it helps against a couple of bosses, even the physical attack part of Neo Exdeath

You play red mage to gain doublecast.

Yellow dragons when released use a lightning elemental attack that inflicts max hp/4 damage. If you have capture/release on all four party members and everyone has a yellow dragon, you can end EX-death in one round. A lot of avian type enemies like Zuu have breath wing on release which is the same thing, but wind instead of lightning.

I mentioned this to someone else, but yeah I'm aware, I used 4 Magic Dragons with Blaze to beat Exdeath in the level 1 run. I just didn't want to grind an absurd amount.
