You changed my life. For the better. About 8 years ago I was facing surgery for a growth behind my eye. Inflammation. My daughter suggested that I read your book. I did. I started your program the next morning. Starch Solution changed my life. I ate starch, starch and more starch. Whole grains, homemade breads, no oil, etc. My MRI’s showed that the growth behind my eye got so small there was no need to operate. I know it was because of you and your book. Thank you! It works. Been on a starch diet for 5 years. I go to the doctor's once a year because my insurance gives me a $25 gift card for a wellness check up. I am 76 and my doctor told me that all I probably need to do is take a multivitamin once a day other wise I'm good to go. I do not catch the flu or a cold. Recently saw a video from two doctors promoting the Keto Diet that said to stay away from grains because that's not what our ancestors ate. Everyday they were out killing animals and that's all they ate. A very high protein diet. Do your research people! A high protein diet will ruin your kidneys and will give you diabetes. Money in these doctor's pocket. I did start off on the Keto diet and had the Keto Flu (thats what they call it) and almost fell down in the Walmart parking lot. Keto people will tell you that's normal for some people you need to get over it. How can that be healthy?? I do the starch diet and never fell down. Great blood pressure 102/65. ❤❤❤ just try it, you'll like it.

Our Hunter gatherer ancestors were mainly gatherers (mainly the women folk) The exception perhaps being the Inuit and similar. Of course our ancestors, meat eaters or not rarely lived to half our age, so no time to get our illnesses. Keto is just an excuse for those that enjoy eating dead animals

@bristlefistАй бұрын
Really? It's awfully confusing then that our ancestors didn't seem to suffer from diabetes but as we adopted a diet based around grains and ultra processed foods rates of diabetes have soared... Go figure. And another thing "keto flu" is actually your body adapting to burning fat as it's primary food source instead of sugar. It lasted about 4 days for me, I felt like a new man afterwards and would never go back. I was vegan and ate loads of whole grains for about 5 years and it all but destroyed my health, digestive issues, auto immune issues, chronic fatigue, brain fog. This is common among long term vegans. Most of the people I know eating an animal based diet are ex long term vegans that had their health ruined, it takes a while but it's brutal when it catches up with you. It's also worth pointing out that the doctor in this video looks absolutely terrible for his age and he died not long after this at the age of 77. Definitely young by todays standards. My father has eaten what he likes, drunk alcohol and not been particularly careful about his health, he's 85 and still manages the grounds of his large property. The entire healthcare system has been rigged by corporate interests and most doctors know zilch about appropriate markers for metabolic health. Who do you think funds the research you're relying on

Hey I get problems with bread, but I know I get chest pain from oil even small amounts. It could be the oils in bread. It could also be the forms of iron in enriched wheat products like reduced iron which isn't absorbed well and probably causes problems. It could also be the prevalence of gmos. It could be yeast too. You could try an unenriched organic pasta with just a single ingredient to test.

@alisonbamford67238 ай бұрын
If you eat wheat then yes, you will find it inflammatory. It’s far removed from the simple ancient grain it once was (tbh I don’t know how they have the cheek to even call it wheat anymore because it’s been so hugely hybridised & meddled with genetically). And as if that isn’t bad enough they then spray it within an inch of its life with gut-biome altering chemicals. And then they refine it, stripping out the nutritional powerhouses, the germ & bran (to sell for profit to cosmetics & supplements industries). And then they put it through a fast-track bread-making process which does not enable enough time for the yeasts to predigest the starches, sugars & gluten proteins so that we can digest it better. Because of all that it sets up neuro-degenerative issues within the body, which then can become sensitive to all gluten proteins & other substances in it. Wheat, barley & rye are the worst culprits. Sometimes oats, although it’s a different form of gluten & less problematic. Corn is mostly GMO now. Rice is about the only grain that does not trigger issues.
@alisonbamford67238 ай бұрын
Wheat, barley & rye are hugely inflammatory because of what is done to them. That is why Dr. McDougall advocates WHOLE grains. Wheat particularly is so highly hybridised I’m not sure how they can still have the cheek to call it wheat. If you can find more ancient grains like spelt or Einkhorn they are better. Oats are not quite as meddled with & people who have wheat/gluten issues are usually ok with oats except in rare circumstances, but organic steel cut are best. Corn is mostly GMO now. Some do better with blue corn - if you can find it - or guaranteed non GMO organic - if you can find it. Rice is about the only grain that is non-inflammatory. My body loves rice, especially brown. I’m following the Rice Diet, loosely. Wheat is meddled with in the field, sprayed within an inch of its life, then stripped of its nutrients during milling (for profit). So what is left is nothing but the starch, sugars & gluten proteins with no nutrients to help the body digest it. And then they fast-track the rising process the churn out millions of loaves very fast, which is also bad. Bread is a slow-rise process, preferably sourdough, for the most nutrition.

I am 66 now. A few years ago my Coronary Calcium Score was 446. I had a couple of nuclear stress tests that said I was okay for now. I am in fairly good shape for my age and am complimented often that I don't look 66. I exercise regularly and moderately intense. I ate the typical American diet most all of my life. Most of my meat has been chicken, sardines, canned tuna, canned mackerel , an occasional hamburger and plenty of all the other bad stuff. I cannot remember the last time I ate a steak. This way of eating has got me to where I am at. A month ago I have slowly switched to mostly plant based eating. I didn't go whole hog and become a instant vegan but most of my daily intake of food is plant based. I'll have an occasional bowl of chili that has some hamburger in it. after eating a dozen eggs a week for the last 50 or so years I haven't had a whole egg in a month. I have put a little egg white on my hash browns though. I have come to the realization that I have to eat something different from now on.

Gosh - well done for changing - it's never too late to start on a positive track! 👌 But please check out Caldwell Esselstyn's work on preventing and reversing heart disease (one of Dr McDougall's colleagues in the area - you can find plenty of his work elsewhere on YT). You'll likely have, as most of us do, the lesions and plaques in the cardiac arteries that can rupture to cause the attacks, regardless of test scores. Stabilising those plaques is crucial, via the right lifestyle choices, to make sure they never rupture in the near or later future. It's animal products and vegetable oils that are the key causes of building and rupturing those plaques, as you'll find out.
@Leatherbark2 жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoe-xk1dv Thank you for the information. I've watched a few of Mr. Esselstyn's videos and Rips also. Regarding the lesions and plaques which I obviously have. I understand the calcium covering them is the body's response to the soft plaque. I've been taking Vitamin d3 with K2 for the last 2 years that supposedly removes the calcium from the arteries. I'm wondering now if that is a good idea?
@JohnDoe-xk1dv2 жыл бұрын
@@Leatherbark the key here is 'supposedly'. Hopefully, this won't have done too much harm - but fat soluble vitamins especially in pill form (vit D is fine) aren't a great sub for getting them from natural success. For D, adequate sunshine exposure, typically. Remove the sources of those plaques, seems to keep them from stable, and dissolve calcium buildup. Can only say to try and apply the Esselstyn regime (which concurs with Dr McDougall's, with just some more emphasis on green leafy veg). And gain medical consultation with people familar with their protocols. Might be best investment you can make for health, and the future.

If WFPB, likely it'll just be one or more types of a particular protein in one of the plant foods that's an issue. Might be worth trying Mary's Mini (see Dr M's site for the info) to see if that reveals what's going on. Unless you're taking meds that might react, smoking, drinking etc - they're the place often to start first, if so of course.

What is "long term"? Shawn Baker is functioning. Mikhaila Peterson seems to be functioning. I think their diet is absurd but I'm not sure what the big prognosis is here. Baker had a 0 CAC score so it doesn't seem to be hurting his arteries. You might think he'd have 0 energy, yet he has plenty. I like your username and I agree btw. @@fifteenbyfive The only way to be energetic without carbohydrates is to take stimulants. I don't know the people you mentioned but from a scientific standpoint we cannot live in ketosis indefinitely. Many of the proponents of low carb diets do not follow their own advice and only show themselves at the most asthetic end of their yoyo. Dr. Atkins died obese, Robert Lustig is obese. Sure these diets work quickly in the short term but have long term metabolic consequences. According to the American College of Cardiology, "nobody should be on a ketogenic diet unless short term weightloss is more important than long term health."

So if you're right, that might be an example of something they don't show. Peterson did it for health reasons though. She was allergic to almost everything, had autoimmune disease etc. So for an outlier like her it seems to have worked out. I can produce ketones as good as anyone and eat YOUR diet so I never understood the special diet. A vegetarian can intermittent fast with the best of them, I'm at least proof of that.

@@fifteenbyfive Because when you restrict carbohydrates then body will go out of it's way to produce glucose through a process called gluceogenesis where protein either from dietary or your muscle proteins will be conversed into glucose. Psalms 137:9 - 2 Kings 6:29

@@beepbeepnj2658 Regarding Psalm 137:9, Matthew Henry was very insightful in his bible commentaries (and had his head screwed on a lot straighter than most preachers of today). I turn to his commentaries to help me understand what some puzzling verses say. Here is his commentary on Psalm 137:9: "137:5-9 What we love, we love to think of. Those that rejoice in God, for his sake make Jerusalem their joy. They stedfastly resolved to keep up this affection. When suffering, we should recollect with godly sorrow our forfeited mercies, and our sins by which we lost them. If temporal advantages ever render a profession, the worst calamity has befallen him. Far be it from us to avenge ourselves; we will leave it to Him who has said, Vengeance is mine. Those that are glad at calamities, especially at the calamities of Jerusalem, shall not go unpunished. We cannot pray for promised success to the church of God without looking to, though we do not utter a prayer for, the ruin of her enemies. But let us call to mind to whose grace and finished salvation alone it is, that we have any hopes of being brought home to the heavenly Jerusalem."

@@beepbeepnj2658 Regarding 2 Kings 6, here is helpful commentary on verses 24-33: "Verses 24-33 This last paragraph of this chapter should, of right, have been the first of the next chapter, for it begins a new story, which is there continued and concluded. Here is, I. The siege which the king of Syria laid to Samaria and the great distress which the city was reduced to thereby. The Syrians had soon forgotten the kindnesses they had lately received in Samaria, and very ungratefully, for aught that appears without any provocation, sought the destruction of it, v. 24. There are base spirits that can never feel obliged. The country, we may suppose, was plundered and laid waste when this capital city was brought to the last extremity, v. 25. The dearth which had of late been in the land was probably the occasion of the emptiness of their stores, or the siege was so sudden that they had not time to lay in provisions; so that, while the sword devoured without, the famine within was more grievous (Lam. 4:9): for, it should seem, the Syrians designed not to storm the city, but to starve it. So great was the scarcity that an ass's head, that has but little flesh on it and that unsavoury, unwholesome, and ceremonially unclean, was sold for five pounds, and a small quantity of fitches, or lentiles, or some such coarse corn, then called dove's dung, no more of it than the quantity of six eggs, for five pieces of silver, about twelve or fifteen shillings. Learn to value plenty, and to be thankful for it; see how contemptible money is, when, in time of famine, it is so freely parted with for anything that is eatable. II. The sad complaint which a poor woman had to make to the king, in the extremity of the famine. He was passing by upon the wall to give orders for the mounting of the guard, the posting of the archers, the repair of the breaches, and the like, when a woman of the city cried to him, Help, my lord, O king! v. 26. Whither should the subject, in distress, go for help but to the prince, who is, by office, the protector of right and the avenger of wrong? He returns but a melancholy answer (v. 27): If the Lord do not help thee, whence shall I? Some think it was a quarrelling word, and the language of his fretfulness: "Why dost thou expect anything from me, when God himself deals thus hardly with us?" Because he could not help her as he would, out of the floor or the wine-press, he would not help her at all. We must take heed of being made cross by afflictive providences. It rather seems to be a quieting word: "Let us be content, and make the best of our affliction, looking up to God, for, till he help us, I cannot help thee." 1. He laments the emptiness of the floor and the wine-press. These were not as they had been; even the king's failed. We read (v. 23) of great provisions which he had a command, sufficient for the entertainment of an army, yet now he has not wherewithal to relieve one poor woman. Scarcity sometimes follows upon great plenty; we cannot be sure that to-morrow shall be as this day, Isa. 56:12; Ps. 30:6. 2. He acknowledges himself thereby disabled to help, unless God would help them. Note, Creatures are helpless things without God, for every creature is that, all that, and only that, which he makes it to be. However, though he cannot help her, he is willing to hear her (v. 28): "What ails thee? Is there anything singular in thy case, or dost thou fare worse than thy neighbours?" Truly yes; she and one of her neighbours had made a barbarous agreement, that, all provisions failing, they should boil and eat her son first and then her neighbour's; hers was eaten (who can think of it without horror?) and now her neighbour hid hers, v. 28, 29. See an instance of the dominion which the flesh has got above the spirit, when the most natural affections of the mind may be thus overpowered by the natural appetites of the body. See the word of God fulfilled; among the threatenings of God's judgments upon Israel for their sins this was one (Deu. 28:53-57), that they should eat the flesh of their own children, which one would think incredible, yet it came to pass. III. The king's indignation against Elisha upon this occasion. He lamented the calamity, rent his clothes, and had sackcloth upon his flesh (v. 30), as one heartily concerned for the misery of his people, and that it was not in his power to help them; but he did not lament his own iniquity, nor the iniquity of his people, which was the procuring cause of the calamity; he was not sensible that his ways and his doings had procured this to himself; this is his wickedness, for it is bitter. The foolishness of man perverteth his way, and then his heart fretteth against the Lord. Instead of vowing to pull down the calves at Dan and Beth-el, or letting the law have its course against the prophets of Baal and of the groves, he swears the death of Elisha, v. 31. Why, what is the matter? What had Elisha done? his head is the most innocent and valuable in all Israel, and yet that must be devoted, and made an anathema. Thus in the days of the persecuting emperors, when the empire groaned under any extraordinary calamity, the fault was laid on the Christians, and they were doomed to destruction. Christianos ad leones-Away with the Christians to the lions. Perhaps Jehoram was in this heat against Elisha because he had foretold this judgment, or had persuaded him to hold out, and not surrender, or rather because he did not, by his prayers, raise the siege, and relieve the city, which he though he could do but would not; whereas till they repented and reformed, and were ready for deliverance, they had no reason to expect that the prophet should pray for it. IV. The foresight Elisha had of the king's design against him, v. 32. He sat in his house well composed, and the elders with him, well employed no doubt, while the king was like a wild bull in a net, or like the troubled sea when it cannot rest; he told the elders there was an officer coming from the king to cut off his head, and bade them stop him at the door, and not let him in, for the king his master was just following him, to revoke the order, as we may suppose. The same spirit of prophecy that enabled Elisha to tell him what was done at a distance authorized him to call the king the son of a murderer, which, unless we could produce such an extraordinary commission, it is not for us to initiate; far be it from us to despise dominion and to speak evil of dignities. He appealed to the elders whether he had deserved so ill at the king's hands: "See whether in this he be not the son of a murderer?" For what evil had Elisha done? He had not desired the woeful day, Jer. 17:16. V. The king's passionate speech, when he came to prevent the execution of his edict for the beheading of Elisha. He seems to have been in a struggle between his convictions and his corruptions, knew not what to say, but, seeing things brought to the last extremity, he even abandoned himself to despair (v. 33): This evil is of the Lord. Therein his notions were right and well applied; it is a general truth that all penal evil is of the Lord, as the first cause, and sovereign judge (Amos 3:6), and this we ought to apply to particular cases: if all evil, then this evil, whatever it is we are now groaning under, whoever are the instruments, God is the principal agent of it. But his inference from this truth was foolish and wicked: What should I wait for the Lord any longer? When Eli, and David, and Job, said, It is of the Lord, they grew patient upon it, but this bad man grew outrageous upon it: "I will neither fear worse nor expect better, for worse cannot come and better never will come: we are all undone, and there is no remedy." It is an unreasonable thing to be weary of waiting for God, for he is a God of judgment, and blessed are all those that wait for him."

Our body MAKES cholesterol; no need to eat it. "Your liver makes all the cholesterol you need" -- American Heart Association Editorial Staff.
@ObamaoZedong2 жыл бұрын
Here's what I found about fats when I became certified in nutrition. The human body can produce all but two of the fatty acids it needs. These two, linoleic acid (LA, an unsaturated omega-6 fatty acid) and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA, a polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid) are called essential fatty acids (EFAs) because they must be supplied by food. Only plants can synthesize these two fats. Animals' bodies contain them because they get them from plants, so if we eat animals for fats we're getting our nutrients second hand and in detrimentally high quantities which leads to type 2 diabetes as the intramyocellular lipids block our insulin receptor sites. As for cholesterol, our body produces all the cholesterol we need, the same is true for other animals. However, because our intestines are many times longer compared to the length of our body versus those of carnivores, they have no problem with high cholesterol whereas our intestines have more time to absorb it which is one of the reasons dietary cholesterol is heavily linked to heart disease, ischemic stroke, and erectile dysfunction in humans. I'm sorry for bombarding you with so much info but if you want to read more, here's a review by the European Heart Journal totalling more than 340 studies and meta analyses on the subject of dietary cholesterol. academic.oup.com/eurheartj/article/41/24/2313/5735221 Instead of focusing on fats for brain health, because we get more than enough from a variety of whole plants, it's crucial we focus on carbohydrates because our brain uses over 60% of the body's glucose. In other words, plant fats build the brain, but carbs make it work. Have you ever heard the expression ''hangry''? A combination of hungry and angry. People on low carb diets often get this way because their brains aren't recieving enough glucose to operate at their fullest potential.

While I know from experience that your nutritional advice is sound, people I want to sure your videos with, who may be new listeners, may conflate junk science with your good work. Stick to what you know, that’s my well intended advice. Remember, years ago we were warned of the coming ice age: Predictions in the 1970s, where the “experts say” by 2000 New York City will look like the North Pole. When that didn’t pan out, then it was “global warming,” the North Pole would melt! And when that didn’t happen in time for the Six O’clock News, then we got “climate change” Then it was all about “the population explosion!” Remember that one? Communist China pushed the draconian “one-child policy”. Enlightened couples in the West learned to love dogs, instead of children. And guess what? Today China is facing a demographic crises, too few people to maintain the population, and everywhere in the West, where they drank the Kool Aid too, aging societies face near extinction, with negative population growth. Again, I say stick to what you know. Leave the junk science to the entertainment industry. 😉
