Back in the summer of 2008 I was shore fishing off the rocks into the deep water below Duntulm Castle on the Isle of Skye. A Great White Shark (12ft long ish?) cruised lazily on the surface along the edge of the rocks right past me. It was right on the surface, swimming very slowly, dorsal and tail fins out of the water and was so close to me (6 ft away) that I could literally have reached out and touched it. Everybody always says to me that it was probably just a basking shark. Trust me it wasn't - it was 100% Great White. I've seen a lot of great wildlife when I've been out fishing but nothing quite like this. I was shaking with adrenaline afterwards. I think they are very regular visitors to our shores and are occasionally seen but nobody has yet managed to capture it on camera to prove it once and for all.

@@h4b2_k66 Hang on a minute - try imagining being in that situation yourself. You're standing on a rock fishing and completely out of the blue, a shark swims right past you, then disappears. The whole thing takes 3 or 4 seconds. Do you (a) stand there in shock staring at it or (b) immediately take photos with the camera that was already primed in your hand? It's easy to post silly comments but unexpected sightings of sharks simply don't happen like that.

@@StuartTanfield take a pic or video of the thing, ofcourse could make lots of money gia conservation and also be the first to document in these waters. Not everyone is a biatch to be in shock. In uk we have footage of everything but a white shark in the waters 💀 but people claim to have seen it. Liars! No footage no one is buying the bs!

I have been of the belief for some time that GWS have been and maybe still are present in Irish/British waters. Ocearch’s mission to catch and tag Mediterranean whites will be interesting. They will also travel to waters off France & Ireland. The only thing stopping great white sharks from being spotted in our waters, is the healthy presence of orca.

The reason why they are heading up Scotland way is one , we have a large population of seals and sealions. .though we also have the orcas

I've always said Whitey's are here. I remember walking out to Mackerel Point in Treaddur Bay as a kid and came across a dead seal washed up in a rocky gully..Massive bite out of it's side. Yes seagulls and crabs had been at it but it was an initial big bite taken out of it's side. . We have the biggest colonies of Atlantic Grey Seals on the east of the Ocean so why wouldn't they be..Love your passion and I also follow Islander Outdoors

They are here but only occasionally. people think the closest white sharks are on the east coast of the usa but there are ones known as close as just below france its not logical that they wouldn't venture to our waters we just cant detect them because most of our water is the color of and has the visibility of sewage.
