@@iamhere3829 Perhaps they could have a challenger (say Okada - since he's made it clear the IWGP Heavyweight means the most) just go after one of the belts. If the proposed 'split' comes from the challenger, then it doesn't make Ibushi look weak at all.

@@iamhere3829 it makes sense what you say but it also doesn't. If they go to a time limit draw then both belts are on the same level. They either need to unify or ibushi has to loose one (probably heavyweight) so that the champion is strong and ibushi is still a champ but only intercontinental. That would be my idea, however I wouldn't be disappointed if your idea happened

Exactly you can’t take the IC belt that main evented wk8 and merge it. That belt is the transition workhorse belt. Either you are a top guy on your way to being the heavyweight champ/contender or your on your way down and your name brings credibility to the belt. The never title is the strong style belt. The us title is a niche gaijin belt.

When NJPW first made double champions it was dope and fresh but now it's basically just 1 whole title because the champ never defends each separately so now it's lost its luster. Now you add on no US title and NJPW doesn't feel the same championship wise and it's sad. They have to change it all up and just get a restart. Sanada would be a perfect IC champion and give Juice back the US title

@@tronzilla1xboxhater850 the beautiful thing is for new Japan outside of the anemic Jr tag scene and six man titles (which I honestly forgot existed) right now is the titles do get defended on the regular, I think the pandemic doesn’t help matters much because you can’t bring American or Mexican talent over in boatloads like new japan usually does to fill up contenders for titles so once (if it ever does) the pandemic is brought to a halt we may get to see more teams competing for the Jr tag belts and the six man belts and liven up the rest of the title scenes

I dont know what it is but something feels odd about Ibushi with the titles. It feels like they are making the man when it should be the other way around. Kinda like a kid, wearing his dads boots. I remember that Okada just seemed natural with the belt since he first got it. Jay White also felt like he made the title better the short time he was Champion. Maybe around his 2nd or third title reign will he make the belt feel important. Evil also looked like someone who needed the belts to make him feel important.

If anything they should split the belts and consider getting rid of the US belt. Ever since New Japan made the mistake of pandering to Cody and having him go over Juice the US belt has been a mess. Now we don’t see the US belt cause New Japan again made the mistake of putting it on an overrated part timer. Worry about that belt first New Japan. Then split the IC belt to give guys like Evil, Shingo, Juice, Finlay, ZSJ, Tachi, Kenta, Naito, Cobb, Ospreay a chance to continue to grow with the IC title. Jay too for when he comes back.

Actually tight disappointed of how New Japan books their matches apart from NJPW Strong. Making every event with names sound like pay per views but they barely book singles matches instead, it feels like they book six-man tags all year long even though I complete get it most of the wrestlers belong to particular factions.

As for the match itself, it’ll be entertaining but not something that I want to see. Now that you mentioned it Naito, looks like Oka is interested in you because you’re “NO OCUPADO”.
