I've been watching " scary" movies all October, but I watch movies that aren't overly dark or violent. Some movies though that I've watched in the past have left me feeling creepy and unsettled at the end and I don't think those are good for me so I don't watch them. ☺️

Thank you! People forget that not all things are sinful and disobedient to God. How we interpret them and use them is the important part. Games, movies, and music can pull us into sin but if they are kept in the proper perspective, so that they don't draw us to sin, they can be fine. If you have anger struggles and violent content drags you to it, it may be an issue and possibly something to cut out of your life. If you can take it at face value and have it not effect you faith, actions and morals, then it's probably fine. Seeing a horror movie isn't going to make me hate anyone or desire violence or pull me into hatred. So it's likely ok. If sexy non-pornagraphic movies draws me to lust and toward sexual immorality, then they are harmful and should be avoided. It all depends on how the content affects you and what you do with it. So, it's like when they say "only listen to music that glorifies him", but itzy bitzy spider and uncle mcdonald don't... so, children shouldn't sing them? and people should resign their jobs as software development, judges, architects or accountants? I understand kids should sing christian praises to God, and all jobs should be about making things for his glory, but it's not always possible to do that, specially in public schools and corporate jobs.

I love the overall message in this video that making choices about things is very personal. I feel like we too try often to put things of this world into a box of good and bad. Now sure, there are many things in this world that are obviously not good for us or outright sinful, but many things are neutral and ambiguous. Our spiritual struggles are unique to us. What’s my biggest struggle might be the easiest part of someone else’s Faith. Thank you for promoting this very helpful message. As I grow in Faith I try to listen to my convictions and ask God about things I am unsure of. His perfect wisdom will eventually make things clear! ❤

Are mental disorders caused because of various environmental and genetic factors, or evil spirits do have a role to play (a belief in many countries including where I am from)? 2. Mental disorders have become so prevalent and people who have these sometimes suffer all the more because they are still viewed as being possessed by demons, so what should our take be on this, as Christian psychologists? I recently watched a documentary on Autism called, 'The reason I jump' and this issue was highlighted there. Thank you for making such videos and making an impact literally, they are really helpful. I would love if you could make a video covering this :))

This is why I love psychological horror the most. Usually, there are no demons and monsters to stir up emotions, and they are sometimes less gory but it still gives you that sense of fun thrill while also allowing you to think through and about the story.

To say that watching something that is scary because it is intense or confusing damages your soul is a severe overreach with no biblical basis. If that is your conviction, then do not watch, but it seems you have stepped past the realm of personal convictions by trying to push your personal issues with the genre onto others.

Great explanation! I don't watch many horror movies, but, when I do, I watch the classic Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on Elm Street films. I don't care for horror games though. The movies with demons have given me a weird, confused feeling, so, I stay away. I play exploration/survival games or gladiator-type games on console or in virtual reality. The violence in-game may be brutal, but, I know it's fake, and I know better than to say/do otherwise. God bless!!

It leaves me in a highly scared, disgusted, and sad mental and emotional state, sometimes for days, so I never watch gruesome movies, but I also understand that a lot of Christ-loving people enjoy movies and shows like John Wick and Attack on Titan, without being negatively affected. As for horror movies, I always stay away because of the gore and, in some of the movies, the demons. Great video!

About two years ago I got this question constantly wandering in my mind, given that I was really interested in watching a horror film series because of the characters and the story. The main problem, said franchise has a reputation for its graphical violence; as I asked God for guidance I eventually decided to watch it. In retrospective, even if I really liked the narrative and the characters, I would often find myself uncomfortable with the violence, trying my best to avoid those parts. Then, one day in Church, someone prayed for our actions and what we consumed to honor God, and it was at that moment when I realized it was better for me to walk away from that film series. I realized that I couldn’t feel comfortable talking to others about my liking for it, and that led me to think about my testimony to others. Today I regret about what I saw, and found forgiveness. Horror movies just aren't good to watch as a whole because I believe that they can open up doors but watching Michael Myers is different than watching demonic possession. I was delivered from a lot of demons that were causing sleep paralysis and bad visions. It was revealed that these demons came in through watching horror movies. Which surprised me because I hate horror movies. I would strongly advise against watching movies like that.

It has been well proven that you need to invite evil in the home by doing things to bring them in like rituals, ouija boards, etc. Evil doesn’t just show up out of nowhere. Energy transfer is also a real thing, so if you were having negative thoughts you brought upon yourself what you thought was a demon but was nothing more than your imagination.

I just want someone here to know that I personally had en encounter with Jesus Chrsit when cvovid started, I asked God if he was real to reavlhimself to me after watching a Christan Street preacher called "ChristForgivness" and 2 weeks later I had a dream of a man with a white robe looking down at me and that same day I went to the store with my parents and I told them then dream and all they told me was "Stop watching that Christian" but once I got back home I remember I glanced to the sky once I got back home and saw a shooting star form right infront of me and while I am looking at it I heard a crystal clear voice that said "Jesus Christ" but in English, Yes Jesus is real and Loves YOu ❤

1:42 I remember that movie and that scene gave me chills like not good chills. I unfortunately did open myself up to the other side of spiritualness and found i had an actual aversion to the scripture and even the name Jesus. My eyes were opened to the reason i felt that the scripture was not necessary and my aversion to Jesus' name. I prayed for the first time in probably a decade and was delivered from evil. You dont have to be possesed for the devil to be in you all you have to do is not be on Jesus' side. The devil would tell me "you dont need Jesus, the scripture is nothing you need to read" all to keep me in his hands and keep me from being saved

Whenever i think about topic like this, one amazing quote has been coming to mind recently: "God left us the world unfinished for man to work his skill upon. God gives to man the challenge of raw materials, not the ease of finished things. He leaves the pictures unpainted and the music unsung and the problems unsolved, that man might know the joys and glories of creation." Horror movies are a form of creation. While it's important to be careful when making more violent films, it's also important that we remember there is value to be gained. We just need to be careful we don't encourage or glorify sinful behavior.

@@youtubemom497 that's not all horror films. You're thinking of specific horror movies, when there are many films that fit into the genre that aren't like that. There are also different reasons to enjoy scary movies. For example, haunted houses and other scary attractions were at capacity in late 2001. These films can be a way to externalize real fear in a safer environment. Which is also why my school library carried American Chillers. The real world is scary, and sometimes it's important to teach children how to handle fear, when the provocation isn't nearly as strong (American Chillers wasn't scary), and in a safe environment. Yes, many horror movies are not Christlike. But it's important to recognize that we understand what these films can provide for some, and not jump to concluding all horror movies are evil.

I'm going to start this video by saying I've always treated it as a matter of discernment. Now I am going to watch the video and see if that stance changes. Edit: I agree on all points. I also don't mind demons in films as long as they're the antagonistic destructive force? The exorcist is a classic horror film but it displays the demon in opposition to God. Where it gets incredibly dangerous and I refuse to watch is where demons are displayed as you said cutesy anime girls or as beings to be loved or "I can fix him." Supernatural romance stuff. In short. I agree with you and will continue to interact with horror media but continue to be vigilant and discerning.

The whole demon being misunderstood thing makes a lot of anime unwatchable for me, but that’s also why I really liked Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Instead of them being like “yeah no they were just mistreated but they’ll be nice now 🥺🥺🥺🥺”, the demons were bad. They pretended to be good and many people had decided to make deals with them or to protect them, only to get killed in the end. Demons were always bad and Frieren (the mc) was always on that wagon. She did NOT hesitate to jump a demon and killed so many. That was really refreshing for me 😅 I think that concept should be adapted into more series

TLDR: I loved this video I love your thoughtfulness here! It burdens my heart when Christians can't represent both sides to an argument when the Bible isn't explicitly dogmatic on a topic. I've been guilty in 2 ways on this subject: forcing my own weakened conscience's convictions onto other people, and judging others for being unable to watch what I have liberty to watch. You've articulated a beautiful biblical principle found in Romans 14:1-4 -- "As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand."

I watched many horror movies when I was younger but this one stood out in a completely different tier compared to the rest very dark, still gets me many years later. I definitely believe it depends on the person whether you can watch it and it will not be a sin for you. I can watch that stuff and not feel sick or get intrusive thoughts from watching it. I've played horror video games since I was a kid, and I never get any bad thoughts, and I don't get convicted by the holy spirit when I watch/play horror games/movies.

This was so helpful! I’ve always grew up loving anything creepy or scary, and being a Christian who’s as of lately taken an interest in writing, I started diving into the world of writing grimdark stories to use my creativity and love of horror for the glory of God. I really love this video. It explains really well. I’m a Thai person and I recently became Christian in July. At some point in my life prior I listened to many ghost stories from a popular KZbin channel for entertainment… I didn’t have a very good social life activity and it was really difficult to get out of this new habits. I think the things I used to enjoy was listening to people talking to each other and I was very curious. Until at some point it all sounded very similar moreover I’m a very visual and imaginative person. So I realized quickly that these things made me very weak, at that time I usually scared of the dark or spending the night alone and when I traveled to countryside. It was confirm. But once I decided to follow God, I just know that it is so much light to learn and be connected with the holy real. Slowly and finally I got out of the ghost stories or ghost game casts. I totally agree that it is like opened up the realm of the darkness. And I’m someone who doesn’t prefer that. It’s like the whatever you give attention to, those will automatically become your resources and life is busy as it is and why would you want your mind to be filled with ghost stories or scary death stories? I do admit from time to time I watch some sci-fi spoilers, but I mostly feel regret rather than glad. Maybe I should try to replace my desire of fiction and fantasy with something that will enrich my creativity. 😊

Thank you so much for making this video! Horror is actually a main point in my testimony, I used to be obsessed with it because I found myself tolerant to scary stuff. For example, my sister and I got really into Five Nights at Freddy’s and God did some really incredible things in our lives through it (as weird as that may sound) and my sister just thought the games were entertaining and cool, but I liked them because of the dark concepts within the storyline. I knew it was wrong and sinful to be craving violent imagery and awful ideas, but it was hard for me to fight the temptation. Eventually, I came across a horror series online that actually did scare me, and it affected me violently. I learned that it is in fact possible to be traumatized by something fictional, for month after month I still hadn’t gotten over the extreme fear I felt at just the thought of what I had seen. It also didn’t matter to me that what I was scared of wasn’t real because it was still sitting in my mind, being disturbing. The only way I could feel at peace in this time was through God and prayer. This process felt like torture but it forced me to turn my life around, I finally began talking to other kids in my youth group and worshipping out of joy. When I looked back at the horror things I used to love, it made me feel uncomfortable for the first time and I decided that I needed to give up all things horror (yes, even FNAF) and dedicate my whole existence to God. I’m doing a lot better now and I also study cartooning and art direction and hope to create entertainment of my own when I graduate high school, and I’ve learned the hard way that the content we consume has so much influence on us, so we might as well make something good that honors the Lord.❤️ Some people’s minds are tougher than others, but we should not be exposing ourselves to things that will make us dwell on darkness, nor should we have a goal of creating something that makes others feel emotions that only exist because of sin.

I simply cannot do horror movies. Decades ago when I was maybe 3 years old, parents tried taking my sister and I out trick or treating in the neighborhood and the costumes and masks frightened both of us badly. To this day, Halloween and horror movies are not allowed in my home. Neither interest me and I will not have either near me. I want nothing to do with them. Why risk inviting something demonic into your home? Just count me out. GOD Bless and keep you all.

@@karenc2954 Agreed. If God said if you’re not for me you’re against me, then if something isn’t actually drawing me CLOSER to God, then I don’t want any part of it. That goes for movies, tv shows, music, etc. So while I don’t elevate myself to playing Holy Spirit for other Christians, for myself I’ve been convicted not to participate. Just personal preference.

Other way around. They won’t bother non-believers. They are already Part of the world. In other hand, we fight against principalities and potestades. While watching something that has demonic influences, it opens doors to spiritual warfares at home and consequently you can face problems that you don’t even know are related to that open door. Excellent video! I used to be a horror fiend, I grew up watching horror movies in the 80’s as a child. I was truly desensitized and hardly any movie scared me as an adult. My love for the genre was so big that I often wondered if I would be able to hand it over to God if He asked me to in my Christian walk. Well, a few things happened in my life that started to weaken that love I had for horror movies to the point that I couldn’t watch them anymore. I couldn’t even handle true crime. The Lord broke that bond and filled it with Himself and I’m truly grateful. I do watch the occasional horror movie, but never demonic or gory. I can’t handle them anymore. I do enjoy some of the classics from the 80’s.

This verse essentially means that they will deliberately avoid looking at or engaging with anything that is morally wrong or harmful, actively choosing to focus on things that are good and righteous.

John Gill even described and explained, “I will not set up an evil thing in my imagination, to *dwell* upon in my thoughts, and *take delight and pleasure* in meditating upon it; or set it before me, *to imitate as a pattern, to work by, and copy after*”. The other translations even further affirm it. The context is even later described and explained by saying, “it shall not cleave to me”. The intention by David was avoiding the *practice* of evil. The following verses are even mentioning about how he will know not *know* a wicked person and only they who walk in a *perfect* way shall serve him. Charles Ellicott, Joseph Benson, Robert Jamieson, Andrew Robert Fausset, David Brown, John Perowne, A. F. Kirkpatrick, Donald Jones, and other people were sharing the same sentiments. After watching the video, I realized there are specific reasons why I am most unlikely to watch horror films: 1. Demons can hinder my relationship towards Christ, who is King 2. After watching Alien: Romulus, I noticed that it was nothing but blasphemous against the Lord! Therefore, I no longer watch the franchise! Of course, I have to remember NOT to dwell on it. 3. One of my favorite KZbinrs, CoryxKenshin, played Resident Evil, who claims to be a Christian. And I have to admit, I must make my own convictions 4. I stand up for justice (See Ephesians 6:12-18)

I don't think he's bad or anything, but he plays horror games constantly and has a playlist dedicated to watching horror short films on a Sunday (which is a Sabbath day for Christians, which he claims to be). Some of those films are outright d3m0n1c (Portrait of God, that one Mandela Catalogue video, etc). I still watch him, but I feel convicted everytime I do. Should I watch his playthroughs of safer games instead?

Wow, I really like the way that you put this together. It makes so much sense to me and it's very honoring for those who enjoy and for those who don't. Growing up I watched every horror movie I could. From the cheesiest 80s ones to the slashers to even the Demonic ones about possession and such. It was a thrill for me and I don't know I just always watched them. It was like if a new one came out I was going to look for it. Then about 11 years ago when I became pregnant with my first son all of a sudden things were different and I was highly sensitive to it. I've always had anxiety, though I don't know if that's related LOL but, it was in overdrive at this point. After having my son I can't watch anything that resembles any kind of demonic presence or even fake things like the movie It. The other day as a matter of fact, I was scrolling through Netflix and saw how they have the automatic previews that automatically run and I saw a portion of that movie, the new It movie they came out with, and it generally genuinely made me sick to my stomach. I enjoy anime on occasion and i recently was rewatching Naruto Shippuden, but there is one member of the akutsuki who truly made me so disturbed and sick (i won't spoil, but I'm sure and fan knows what I'm talking about lol) . Even though I had seen it in the past and knew what was coming, it triggered something in my spirit that made me have to leave the room! And I'm 36 now (this Wednesday lol) So when you say hypersensitive like that, it makes so much sense to me now. And the more that I read my Bible and the more that I come to learn about God the more sensitive I'm finding myself to be. Again that's not to take away from anyone else's experience this is just mine. Also I'm laughing so hard at the Bluey jumpscare I literally laughed out loud at that part. Yes I do watch your videos with my kids so thank you for taking that into consideration although they found that hilarious especially my 10-year-old LOL My youngest, six, loves to play horror games and it absolutely drives me crazy but it doesn't bother him at all. That being said he watched this video with me and he did make a mention that maybe certain games he won't play anymore. So thank you.

Once you experience sleep paralysis, I don't know how you can watch any horror movies. I personally couldn't after getting it, as it was literally traumatizing. Another pov; as Christians, why would we take part in darkness? Sure, it's not quite the same as using an oujia bored, but it's not exactly pleasing to God either. Was interested on some of the comments: - some Christians love monsters - some Christians enjoy the thrill of fear - its OK for Christians to dabble into things that are untrue (The bible, and CS lewis, and other authors use imagery to help us understand spiritual things. Whether true or not, had purpose behind it in expressing spiritual meanings) I really suggest the video author weigh this out - and see if these messages reconcile with passages in the bible. I think some questions to ask yourself - if Jesus was watching me right now, would he be proud of me? or would I be better off spending my time doing something else? And to ask yourself - what's the underlying purpose of watching/listening this content, whether horror, or certain types of music. And, am I justifying myself somehow? Is it leading me into truth and bringing good fruit into my life? Phil 4-8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.

Didn’t Jesus speak in parables? Didn’t Nathan tell David a story in order to rebuke him for his sin with Bathsheba? I suppose the argument could be made that every single parable or story told by a person in the Bible actually happened at some point, but that seems like a lot to rationalize. If you can’t consume fiction because it would involve you denying your conscience then there isn’t a problem with you not doing so, but that does not mean other Christians are incapable of it.

C.S Lewis didn't only write Narnia though its not everyone's cup of tea still can't deny he added a lot of value in the world of philosophy and theology its actually beautiful I wish more Christian authors wrote like that now . Something engaging not always necessarily designed to be sold there is nothing wrong with self help books still I noticed in a lot of recent christian literature a lot of what is being sold is devotionals or self help books I personally like reading wholesome entertainment with someone who has a love of Christ and recognizes the rich history and literary genius the books of the bible are to want to replicate or incorporate it in their own imaginative world or stories to share with others still that is my take.

I told myself promise that I would not watch anything that’s clearly demonic. I am a huge marvel fan, but I’m never gonna watch anything ghost Rider or Agatha. Even though I know Demon don’t ride motorcycles. But I know a lot of friends who like who. I try to come to play whether I wanna watch something with them because I don’t want that crap near my life. And it’s hard to think of whether I should just disappear spend my disbelief or not. Especially with movies like nightmare on Elm Street.

So the major reasons I say no, is because horror movies in a collective is against God's will. As stated in this video horror is made to embark on fear, Even if for a tiny moment. They all in one way or another talk bad or mock god, or have some evil spirit tied into them. They are all in one way shape or form sexually immoral. Unnecessary nudity is rampant in the horror genre, and it just feels like nearly every horror movie has at least something that causes sin like lust. Any horror movie that isn't tied to spirits or aliens essentially leave you only with slashers, and imo slashers are the worst of the worst, because you take enjoyment out of seeing someone (even fictionally) being brutally murdered. Which I don't think god enjoys too much. All in all, if something so personal and "normal" like lust is a sin, I believe it's also a sin to find enjoyment in the horror genre, because it's just not what God wants for us. to be fearful, to be sexually exposed, to be entertained by the idea of death, and to be blasphemous. So yeah, that's my opinion on the matter. Also it's good to pray and ask God for guidance, but God doesn't answer people directly. He's not going to whisper in your ear and tell you yeah this or that is ok. So I think it's a slippery slope where you could think god is condoning something when in reality you are making God's decision for him and just doing what you think is right or wrong, even if it's not God's answer.

I can't watch horror movies because I think it opens up portals to the other side and allows demons to come through. And I do not want any demonic forces in my house.

We have to be careful what we do with our precious time. There is so much to do for Christians. I simply have no time nor the place for this horror movies in my life. Ephesians 5:16 "Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil."

Hey, you said in 6:35 that magicians are not real. I wanted to ask if the Bible doesn't talk about magicians, for example in Acts 13:8 or Acts 8:9. what would you say to that? I'm just curious.

@@Luishrtr Job 41:19-21 (quoted earlier) is written too literal to be talking about anything but a fire breathing dragon in my opinion. Also to your witchcraft question… Exodus 22:18: "You shall not tolerate a sorceress" Leviticus 19:26: "You shall not practice divination or soothsaying" Leviticus 20:27: "A man or a woman who has a ghost or a familiar spirit shall be put to death" Deuteronomy 18:10-12: "No one shall be found among you who practices divination, or is a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer, or one that casts spells, or who consults ghosts or spirits, or who seeks oracles from the dead" Micah 5:12: "I will destroy your witchcraft and you will no longer cast"

I left a comment a few weeks ago on your video about watching movies in general and I mentioned my philosophy of Christians and art as well as my love for Halloween, and interest in horror games and horror videos that are trending on KZbin ie Analog Horror and Liminal Horror. I talked about how I appreciate what I call sophisticated horror or I guess what has actually been dubbed elevated horror, which are basically horror pieces that are more cinematically complex than just slasher films or the all too common so-bad-it’s-hilarious horror films. But what is resonating with me is what you said about the line between fiction and reality. One of the genres I enjoy is “Unfiction” but that in itself relies on that blurred line to exist in the first place. Unfiction takes the form of stuff like lost footage, lost games, lost niche media, or real websites that are made for the purpose of telling a story. I like it for its interactive storytelling but like I said, its purpose is to blur fiction and reality together. It’s certainly something I’ll have to meditate on so thanks for the video and I appreciate your advice on the topic.

Christian horror is a genre that exists. I wouldn't have made it through high school without the novels by Frank Peretti, Bill Myers, and Ted Dekker. I really enjoyed the movie Nefarious, which is a Christian horror movie about a demon who possessed a man.

This is TERRIBLY good reasoning when it comes to scary stuff. I personally occasionally dabble in "scary" games (i don't normally play them) and sometimes I love the storytelling, setting, (and if it's one based on mascots like Poppy Playtime, FNAF, etc...) characters and their designs. This made me think a bit more about what I enjoy... it's been a wake-up call to me. The line of which I can enjoy or avoid scary stuff wasn't very blurred anymore; I feel more happy knowing that I now know what to stay away from! Of course, fear being another factor; I also steer clear of the stuff that I should avoid either way. Thank you so much for the video! (fellow pokemon lover :3)

I'm not into this genre, but I appreciate you addressing it for others. 😊 One of the last horror movies I watched (decades ago) was where a girl was stabbed through the back of her seat in a movie theater. That was too close to reality for me.
