Yes, and as most people grow older and start to compare the 2, they'l find that the most fun and innovation they had, are from indie titles, in fact, looking back, it's rare nowadays for me to feel any hint of excitement towards Triple A's compared to indie titles, and I know many people who share these same views.

On No Man's Sky; the thing that upset me most about THAT whole debacle, from the player's end, is that noone seemed to care that Hello Games was a little indie studio of, I shit you not, like MAYBE 10 or 11 people at the time the game was being made. Your average grade-school classroom had more people in it than HG's team did. OF COURSE the game from a studio with maybe 10 people in it and NO PR team isn't gonna hit AAA marks on day one, and stumbled through all their interviews! I was amazed it was as good as it WAS, on release!

Even with how many problems No Man's Sky did have on launch (and let's not pretend it didn't have any just because Hello Games ain't quitters and actually unshittified the game), Day 1 they STILL had seamless space to planet travel. _Starfield has several loading screens._ That grade school class sized studio, even with all the other problems that game had day 1, still had a fundamentally required building block of a *space exploration game* in there day 1 with 11 people, when Bethesda's like 450 something person studio didn't have it in a game released 7 years later.

​@@WMan37 oh absolutely - that's something I find hugely funny (in between the frustration of knowing it can't be that hard of a thing to make since HG did it with a literal handful of people), that a tiny little indie team made a better space game mechanically speaking, than the studio with hundreds of people at its disposal. I can only imagine they use hard loading screens because it's either easier, or because their engine is just that bad. Leaning towards the latter, though. Creation Engine is old as hell, updates or not.

@@sevenlexar Creation engine, even as far back as skyrim, was capable of rendering 3D objects during a loading screen. The way to do it would be to mask the loading screen by doing it the way Warframe's Railjack missions do it where there very clearly is a loading screen but it's also not shifting your perspective.

My issue with Indie games is that they don’t make indie games that really appeal to me (at least not often). I’ve had trouble finding indie games that I find fun because much like AAA games, indie games also often fall into their own tropes i.e. MetroidVanias, Earthbound inspired rpgs,Roguelikes, Soulslikes, and themes of depression/identity. For example, I thought about getting the indie game Tunic because it reminded me of Zelda and was capable of filling a need that Nintendo hasn’t done for 10 years, but I looked at the gameplay and the combat was pretty similar to souls games despite being a top down perspective game. It had lock on, rolling, and enemies with complex movesets. This didn’t appeal to me because I always loved Zelda games for their puzzles that were separated by simplistic combat that allowed the puzzles to be the main focus.

@@AugustCrossroads Looking at gameplay and comparing it to games I have played is kind of the point of looking at trailers/gameplay. I also never said the puzzles were bad and were actually a highlight of what I saw. My issue with Tunic was the more complex looking combat which isn’t something I’ve ever liked Zelda for. To me, the appeal of Zelda’s combat was that it was simple and allowed mechanics like puzzles and exploration to really take center stage.

As a Zelda fan the option are quite slim in the indie scene but it's not nothing. I can recommend 3 games to you. Hob, oceanhorn and turnip boy commits tax evasion. Of those 3 hob is definitely my favourite.

This is an incredible video i cant believe u dont even have 100 subs yet I think indie games are generally more creative and they have soul regardless of quality, aaa games are usually just products to put in stores, with more in app purchases after. Making a fun game only goes as far as giving ppl a reason to buy the game

I 100% agree with this! The most innovation and diversity comes from indie.. now there a ton of crap indie games.. but the winners are the people bringing the game industry forward. Big gaming companies bring nothing nothing new and like Disney they are remaking what they’ve already done.

Amazing video and spells out everything that is wrong with gaming. I'm sure there are many indie games that are absolute trash but they probably don't have 100 devs and a $40m budget committed for several years. How to do it #1: Vampire Survivors: £4 for the base game, £2 for DLCs plus free updates and new maps every few months. #2: Baldurs Gate III: no fanfare, no tie-ins just drop an amazing game from out of nowhere (for an earlier example see Apex Legends before EA stopped putting any effort in). How not to do it: #1. glitch filled messes released to schedule: Jedi Survivor, Payday 3, Cyberpunk, COD MW3, Battlefield 2042. #2. Charging huge prices on games several years old: e.g. all AC games, Far Cry 5 & 6 for £50 each??? #3: pay to win/lootboxes: all EA games, all Blizzard games. Apart from that its all fine.

While there are some great indie games, it's like a diamond in a scrap heap. There are just SO MANY indie games, and most honestly aren't that good. Maybe fun for the novelty for the first hour, but not something you come back to much. Indie Games vary massively in duration and quality. For each Hollow Knight or Celeste, there are 100 trash bags Then AAA games. There are a lot less of them, so it's easier to see the total. And most are quite fun to play. Generally, they tend to have at least a good minimal quality. Yes, there are bad examples, like Fifa being copied yearly, that one Star Wars game where you had to pay to win, when you already bought the game, Pokemon having gameplay issues recently... But you are at least mostly guaranteed to get a good playable game for your money So for me, indie and AAA are both good. Indie games tend to have the best originality, are cheaper but are also shorter. On my switch, there is only one indie game in my top 10 most played, and it's Hollow knight. That's not to say I barely have any indie games, but they tend to be done quicker, even if you go for 100%. If I buy a AAA game, yes it's expensive, but if I do at least a bit of basic research regarding what I want, I got a game that can last me for a long time

For me indies are a clear winner over AAA games. There are a lot of reasons for that. First off,just like you pointed out,AAA games have no originality. When i buy a new game,i want something unique and memorable but when you look at AAA games,it just feels like you're looking at the same game but just with another name and made by a different company. Another thing i want to point out is that in my opinion, better graphics don't necessarily mean better visuals. Most AAA games have amazing graphics yet they look so boring and bland when compared to most popular indies. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying all AAA games are bad ,in fact I'm actualy interested in 2 of them those being super mario odyssey and tears of the kingdom. They do genuenly look interesting and feel like they have care and passion put into them but there are just many more interesting indie games than there are AAA. 2:46 btw ik it's just a joke but hard games can be enjoyable when they're done right. There is a certain feeling of acomplisment you get when you finally manage to do something you struggled with a lot. Afterall that's the reason people enjoy games like celeste,cuphead,geometry dash,dark souls etc.

I'm of the opinion that AAA-games are obsessed with live-service because they're hard-to-impossible to pirate. Plebs can't effectively emulate a multiplayer-server. Live-services are also ultra-monetizeable. Packs, season-passes, lootboxes, microtransactions, etc. Single-player games can't be monetized like that without alienating the player-base.
