The whole glove warmth/dexterity/mechanical protection balancing act has always been the most frustrating part of a kit and layering for me.

Great presentation! Always found the answer to great glove question was... lots of gloves. Ski touring, fat biking, hiking, bushcraft, etc here on the wet and cold west coast of Norway it was always carry two or even three sets of liners, two options of shell and/or insulation mitts, and always have a pair of back-up/rewarming mitts (usually Buffalo mitts) in with your sleep socks.

Flyer gloves go so hard. I have both the sage green and tan. I got the tan one from Venture for $3 when they were having a sale, also got some poly pro pants for $1.50, a Polartec EWOL Fleece Parka Liner for $4.50, and two m65s, one in UCP $5, and a woodland one for $4.00. VENTURE SURPLUS IS THE GOAT OF USGI SURPLUS

So much more rewarding than paying $500 and walking out of REI with 3 things

I use the regular flyers gloves for most of the year and switch to cold weather ones in the late fall. For deep winter the OR shell system trigger mittens have saved my life. Still need to find the primaloft inner gloves as i just substituted a fleece trigger mitten

I really struggle to find something that beats flyers gloves. And the 1st gen 3 finger shells really didn’t work for me but the 2nd gen look better. The liners are awesome though. I hope you can find a pair

My hands are sloped like yours. The only gloves I've found that fit my pinkie fingers are these tactical gloves I found on AliExpress that have the words "wall lizard" printed across the backs.

I've known mountaineers describe the severity of conditions by how many pairs of gloves they've gone through in a day - either by wetting out, or needing to step up in insulation. My record is 6 pairs in a day, I think.
@KitCreep9 ай бұрын
Dayumm 6 pairs is a lot. I think the 24hr spartan race I did claimed the most gloves for me. I think I went through about 4 pairs. I just couldn’t cook anything dry from all the ice plunges

@@KitCreep I won't forget it - a minging day in mixed terrain, above and below the freezing point - wet, boggy walk-ins to blizzard conditions on the ridge, mittens for lunch inside the bothy bag - then back out again.

for how cheap I got the artic mittens, I love it, and I can still belay in them

The cat's ass for glove systems is the OR Swoop three finger mitt originally designed for high altitude open door helicopter operations (think the mountains of Afghanistan). If you ship them they can be found for under $100. They retail for $300+.

i had a pair of gloves from my step dad, old leather, apparently from bootcamp they vanished some time ago and it still makes me sad :(
