What do you think about bringing a couple hand towels? You can use them for cleaning up anything dirty, or soaking up water in your boots, lay it out when you're working with small items that you don't want to drop or lose on the ground, I'm sure there are more uses.

Definitely a great idea. I always bring a big reusable GearAid rag in my food bag. I’ll use it for cleaning cookwear, drying things, sweat rag, etc

I've said it elsewhere, but those few degrees above freezing actually carry a greater risk of hypothermia than the few below, because wet air will sap body heat so effectively. Well done on drying out, keeping safe and getting through it.

Thanks man! Ya I’ll take below freezing and dry rather than above freezing and wet any day.

Never heard of this event but glad to know about it. I should get into these things. Sensible discussion as always. The gear, the gear!

Thank you! And ya Spartan races, tough mudders, Go Rucks, etc are great places to learn more about yourself under pressure. Definitely try one out. 💪🏻

Sounds like a equally grueling and great learning experience 😂. Really appreciate getting peoples takeaways from legit experiences so thanks for sharing man!

Glad you enjoyed! I know I like to hear someone’s after action report from something they just did as opposed to how they will or might use it.

Hey, I dig my arcade belt too. I really like how the flat buckle doesn’t interfere with pack hipbelts.
@KitCreep8 ай бұрын
That’s a really good point. I’m impressed with it. I thought the plastic buckle wouldn’t last but it’s held up to almost 2 years of constant abuse

Cold water immersion should never been done alone or even in pairs. It is inherently dangerous in the extreme. Always have a support system. Old lifeguarding rule: when one person panics, two people drown.

Ya I definitely don’t recommend anyone practices breaking through the ice alone

Did you size up the firebrand mittens one size from the ventums to allow some space? I am trying to gauge how big they are for layering!
@KitCreep7 ай бұрын
I’m in between a large and an XL for gloves but I got the Ventums in large for a snug fit and the Firebrands are also large. I can fit my hands with the Ventums really nicely in the Firebrands with the liners. Almost no dead space and my fingers arent squished. I’m going to upload a video this month on my gloves set up. Hopefully that will paint a better picture of how I stack them.

This might seem silly but why not put the Nalgene in the OR parka the normal way and just put the whole shebang in the pouch upside down? Then you could unzip the top and unscrew the kids while still having the inverred bottle effect
@KitCreep8 ай бұрын
Nah that’s not silly. I’ve tried doing that at first. It’s just easier to zip up when the butt end is at the top cuz of the cap retainer. And I’ve tried drinking from the nalgene while still in the parka but it’s just a really good way to spill water all over yourself and wet out the parka. It’s really important to keep the parka and zipper dry as well as the nalgene threads.

@KitCreep do you have splash guards in the bottles? Can't help you much with the lid loop, they're just gonna stick out. I know in warmer weather some people flip thr loop on thr bottle over so there's a twist in it when closed but then the cap lays flush against the side of the bottle when open

I don't understand you. Why do you wear PCUs? Isn't that more obsolete than the ECWCS? Extremely informative content. But why do you prefer it?
@KitCreep4 ай бұрын
The PCU system is basically just the earlier ECWCS gen 3 that was issued to special forces. The two systems are virtually identical. There are some improvements with the gen 3 but doesn’t deviate from the PCU in terms of materials or philosophy. I just like the block 0 and block 1 PCU line for the grey/green color scheme.
