I've been riding since I was 15 years old. TS250 then a CB450 when I turned 16. Fully road legal. Z1 900 in the shed when I was 18 years old. Sold it and bought a car when I was 19. New Zealand.

in my market honda fits USED are still selling for 11-13 k WITH 100k miles on them and if you want a manual you are going to have to travel to get it and i checked insurance right now i pay $80 a month for my car i would pay $38 for a ninja 400R a brand new one with a loan on it. I am amazed i dont see more people on motorcycles these days the US car market is bat shit crazy

Its not a tough question. Buy a cheap small cc commuter bike and its way cheaper than a car. Buy a fancy sport bike and it might cost more than a car

I say buy a small fun bike for less than $3k and get liability insurance since the purchase was cheap. I paid $6/month for my yamaha sr400. Its slow but a fun little cafe racer.

A yearly train ticket for me to commute to work is 1.3k. Its marginally cheaper to use a bike and the added bonus of having a bike. It would be massively cheaper if I had a free secure parking place.

What about moving closer to work, maybe within walking distance? That would free up the 1,300 for grocery deliveries through Amazon or something like that and you would save yourself hundreds of hours a year if you could simply walk to work and have your groceries delivered.

I've a Varadero XL125, insurance in Birmingham is no joke... quote was 800... It's the same as my car and unfortunately I'm 38 LOL. Not been able to get on the road for the last few years but did my CBT again before Christmas with the intent to get a full license, etc. then I'll be back on the road on two wheels. :D When I was 18 insurance for a car was going to cost 4k... which is why I didn't learn anything until I was about 29 and just used a push bike instead. Do wish I had my license earlier on a bike though. personally, I think having a garage makes the difference with a bike, it doesn't with a car.

I'm a car nut at heart but never had the money to pay for lessons and then get a car and insure it. So recently, i said stuff it and treated myself to a 125CC Sym Jetx. Passed my CBT on Wednesday had the scooter delivered same day scooter was new and was £3200. Its my first time paying for insurance i was getting quotes of £2000+ apart from one who quoted me £890 but after a few added extras it came to £1100. Scooters used for commuting to work. Did extensive research on SYM, and I've been told they are as good as japanese bikes and piss over the Chinese bikes as sym is Taiwanese. In terms of being a noob passing CBT and having a bike is cheaper especially if you pick something second hand and cheap. You will obviously have to pass a CBT in another two years but £165 (what i paid) isnt much when you consider lessons in a car are £30-40 now

Before even watching the video. Answer: Yes. Objectively, yes. Everything about motorcycles (as a daily commuter) is cheaper in every way. Once you start looking into track weapons and top tier riding gear, the costs can push up significantly. But take, say, a rebel 250 used vs. a Ford Fiesta used there is 0 comparison when it comes to costs. Even the most expensive (full production) bike costs about the same as an entry-level car. Insurance is probably double (for full coverage). $15 to fill the tank vs. $45+. Stupid easy (and cheap) to do your own oil changes on a bike. Maintenance is cheaper. The only more expensive thing about bikes is the risk you take by riding on the same roads as stupid drivers who will kill you (most likely) in the case of an accident.

What about the $1000 valve inspection needed every ~20'000 miles or the $200 tires needed every 10k miles.
@lolmctroll
@lolmctroll 7 ай бұрын
@@mr.toasty9740 but you're not going to mention all the maintenance issues that come along with cars? Especially a used one where you have no idea how the vehicle was taken care of? Most motorcycles are a lot more bulletproof than most cars are. Most motorcycles, as long as you're doing your oil changes on time, will run for quite a long time. Just my opinion, but even if your $2k rebel 250 blows up, you can just buy another one. You go buy a used Fiesta for $8500. You're already 4x the input cost. 🤷‍♂️
@lolmctroll
@lolmctroll 7 ай бұрын
@@mr.toasty9740 Also, with an average mileage per year for commuting of 13.5k miles, you have to get one new set of tires per year and get the valves inspected once every 2 years. I would say that $800 in average yearly upkeep costs is still cheaper than a car. Changing the oil on a motorcyle is so braindead easy that it should almost be illegal for you to not change your own oil on a motorcycle. For a total cost of about $20, you could change the oil on a motorcycle around 5 times for every 1 oil change on a car. There are also a whole lot of HUGE ticket repair costs on a car depending on make and model.

Dont really need a car. A car is a luxury not a privilage, its getting harder to justify me keeping a car when everything is getting more expensive. In Asia a motorcycle is definite cheaper majority cant afford a car over there. A car is only for carrying more than 2 people and other things is what I see car's as nothing more than that. A bike is more of a utility vehicle to me or a workhorse.

I dunno why anybody would even want to anyway, everything breaks on a car :-/ . The weather you guys have makes bikes the superior alternative (unless you count monsoon season, but then it's still warm rain).

5:55 - Thankfully, where I live, there is no insurance required. I have never insured myself or any of my bikes in my 40+ years of riding. As I have always paid cash, no hull loss was required by any credit lenders. People without credit are also robbed by high premiums. After seriously damaging my new GPz1100 in 1981, it took me seven months to pay the repair bill. Fortunately, the dealer's wife was my father's secretary. He got most of the engine parts covered under warranty. The labor cost was over $1200 back when minimum wage was $2.90/hr. I have never laid a bike down since, and I have carried my riding skills over into my automobile driving. ~ 15:15 - When I got my license (theft of my Constitutional Right to travel outside of commerce), a restricted license ($10) was the only requirement. I have no idea the cost to get a motorcycle endorsement now, as all I had to do is ask for one (free) when it was invented way back then. In 45 years, I have put on more miles in the saddle of a bike than stuck behind the wheel of a car.

Motorcycle maintenance is expensive unless you learn to do it yourself but that means spending a lot of money on all the tools. You then need laminated or goretex clothing which is very expensive. I have been riding for 10yrs am 25yrs old and currently have a sfv650 with 13k miles and already has needed throttle body rebuild, yoke and stem bearings replaced etc. My insurance is quite expensive because i have ridden without insurance as cant afford it but currently paying £100 a month with hastings direct. I miss riding lexmotos. and riding dirt bikes. I ride all year around covering over 12k miles a year so this also makes insurance go up in price. I am still saving to try to buy laminated gear like rukka but 3k is a lot of money but does come with a warranty. Also motorcycle chains and alarms are not cheap either abus, oxford and biketrac. I spend roughly 15 quid on fuel gets me 120 - 170 miles full tank and i do over 1k miles a month. you then spend a fortune on chain cleaner, chain lube and rags. Car is the cheaper option doesn't require any special clothes and they are much more reliable and low maintenance so get a car and save money.

I think your MPG figures are a little off for 125's, my CB300R averages 90mpg, 125's should be able to achieve 100+ easily. A CB125F ridden at slower speeds (think town roads at 30-40mph) can hit 200mpg.

There’s no question about it, for commuting oneself there’s nothing cheaper and even energy efficient than a small cc bike. I bet if all the people commuting alone on their 2 ton tin cans used a bike CO2 emissions would plummet and traffic jams would be a thing of the past.

Absolutely. Unfortunately politicians don´t see it that way. My Svartpilen 401 was exactly that. Cost 4000€ basically brand new, as quick as a Golf GTI with less than half the fuel consumption (3.6l). No cost for parking, 35€ insurance every month even as a brand new rider, 25€ road tax per year. It was dirt cheap to run. And most cars on the road don´t have 250-300hp. If you compare apples to apples, performance wise, you would have to compare 125´s to 250´s to the average car and then the cost advantage is even more apparent.
