You inspired me to start calender blocking all those years ago, then as an overwhelmed secondary school student and now an overwhelmed university student who recently moved out of her parents house, I am SO grateful I saw that video then and I still love calender blocking to help manage my scatterbrain and anxiety!

I always find it interesting how much thought goes into the "right" time for a video release. I always watch youtube in the morning with breakfast (which makes your current video schedule perfect, since I'm a few hours behind your time) and then in the evening after dinner, so I guess you never know what people are doing!

Exactly!! People will watch on their on schedule

“anticapitalist to the bone” thank you thank you. Been struggling with the internalised capitalism that I’m “lazy” recently so needed to hear this!! 💛

calendar blocking never worked for me when i was at uni (graduated 2 years ago), but now that i work in an office and have a variety of tasks, i calendar block my work week - none of my coworkers do it as detailed as i do, but i find it so helpful! and i adjust as i go, so i also track how much time i'm spending on each task. all that to say, thank you for the original video and this follow-up!! ✨️

4 years ago I was studying in London, the lockdowns were hard but it meant I had a lot of time to watch videos on KZbin 😅 I found your channel through a French creator and watched many videos, including the one on vaginismus. Iwas so shocked I still remember the exact moment and my reaction! It started a bit change in my life and now four years later I'm still watching almost every video you put out. Thanks Hannah!

still obsessed with todoist as an adhder, love the integration with google cal - i can have a running list of different types of tasks to consult when i have time to fill as well as regular recurring ones AND they all disappear when i finish them!!

I never did calendar blocking as a student because many of my tasks were either long-term (usually reading a whole book) or difficult to time in advance. This video has encouraged me to take up calendar blocking now! I'm working as teacher for an online platform and also as a freelancer giving one-on-one lessons, and I desperately need a better way to keep track of all my classes for the week.

I've been doing that with my calendar since 2016 but didn't know it was a thing until that video. Sometimes I find it frustrating because there's certain activities that are not worth the space in the calendar but are daily and can take a surprising amount of time. Things like brushing your teeth, showers and all that. I reckon those kinds of activities is what eats away most of the day when you become a parent
@morehannah2 сағат бұрын
Tbh the teeth/shower tasks take less time as a parent simply because you don’t have time for them so have to be quick or are multitasking!

This was such an interesting revisit. I have just started experimenting with calendar blocking and I'm still getting used to all the bells and whistles. I'm currently more calendar tracking than blocking because I want to find out exactly how much time I'm spending on things and where I might have a bit more space to fit in the things I'm struggling with. This video was one of the ones that inspired me to try out calendar blocking.

A smart place to start so you’re not completely delusional when you start blocking out your time! Good to know how long things take you for sure!

Loved this video! I'm actually writing an article right now about how a mother's relationship to time and productivity is so very different from almost everyone else's. I like how you acknowledge that it's not just time that changed for you but priority/focus/energy - even if I had the hours I used to have, I do not have the drive to fill them like I used to especially with two kids 2 yo and under!

Omg completely!!! I don’t want to burn myself before I go to pick up my kid… I need energy in reserve to do the parenting
@cariiinen8 сағат бұрын
Our parenting shift starts around 6 am, and ends around 9 pm. Sometimes, we've got overnight duties as well. I split parenting with my partner, but we're usually busy with household/admin/ family time during our time off from childcare. The rest of the time is work, and a little bit of downtime/ exercise/ hobby if I have the energy. Do I work less with a toddler? (Paid work). Yes. Am I way more busy? Also yes. We tend to think of child care as not productive, but that's something I try to change, to give myself grace for my work schedule looking very different nowadays.
@xXcrimsonxroseXxКүн бұрын
This really came at the perfect time for me, personally. After having a child this spring, I reduced my work hours, including no longer working on Fridays-and I'm now at 28 hr/wk instead of 40. I have been really hard on myself for getting less done because of course I forget to put it in the context of working less. And as I try very hard to remind myself, it's not that I have less time, it's that I'm prioritizing other things right now, namely my child. It's completely worth it, of course. I love spending less time doing my paid job, and it is a joy to get to spend that time with my child instead. But when I look at how much less I'm "producing," how my career growth is stalling, how much less money I'm making, I do have to consciously remind myself that this is a choice that I made because I actively want it. Parenting is weird! Career change is weird! Thanks, as always, for being so relatable when I'm in the soup.

Oh, I spy Lego Rivendell in the background! I've tried calendar blocking, but I've never managed to stick to the things I planned in. Once I start working on something, I'm bad at switching to another task. I'm a researcher, so there are basically no tasks which I can completely finish in a day. They are all rather long term, so there are rarely "natural" stopping points. But I also know that switching up is good for me, so I'd like to try blocking again
@morehannahКүн бұрын
so hard when there are no natural stopping points! when I have tasks like this that are never ending I tend to set timers and just get as much done as I can in a certain time and then move on to use a different part of my brain (or stretch!)
@valarya5 сағат бұрын
I absolutely suck at sticking to a schedule I've set for myself. If no one else is holding me accountable, I tend to ignore the reminders 😅
@rachelm5478Сағат бұрын
@@morehannah I'm a researcher too and I do the same as you, Hannah. I can't tell myself to write x number of words or write a particular sections because the time that might take is so variable. Instead, I set myself two hours to write. I find I get way more writing done when I know I've only got two hours to do it than if I give myself an entire afternoon.

Oof four years ago, I was working four days a week but taking a pay cut. I haven't been able to maintain that so i'm back to 5 days a week while wishing I'd be able to go back to 4 days... i have changed jobs and am more struggling organization wise because current manager is not one to check on me and follow up if i don't myself. i am now doing a part calendar block, where i will schedule some bigger projects in but all the other smaller stuff is on my to do list that i highlight based on the sort of work it is. before the christmas break, i was doing todoist and it worked great. but i haven't managed to pick it up again. i know i cycle through organization techniques, from 100% digital to 100% physical to an between like now. so i can say that i have learned some stuff about myself in those 4 years! the original 2021 might have been the video that introduced me to you btw!

It fascinates me that people can do regular personal calendar blocking.. AND ADHERE TO IT! 😅 I tried, and just kept silencing the notifications and ignoring them if I didn't feel like it. This seems like it would take up all my willpower to stick to the schedule I set. How do you do it?!
@morehannah2 сағат бұрын
Hahaha yeah I could never do the personal side of things before and definitely not now when there’s a toddler with me most of my “personal” time 😅 I just put appointments/plans we’ve made where we have to physical be somewhere but that’s it

Many things have changed for me in 4 years, but one thing that hasn't is that I would never obey my past-self this diligently 😂 I like a more 'intuitive productivity' approach. Are things sometimes skipped/late? Yes. Have I been arrested for it? No.

I'm in a similar boat, although also differnt. I have an almost 2,5 year old, not working other than parenting at the moment (studying though!), expecting the next one in May. I actually just started again a slightly different version of calendar blocking: I've partitioned my day into 5 daily segments that have different type of tasks assigned to them and I try to get done as much as comfortable in each segment. It help with not feeling like my day just flowed to the end somehow and I have no idea what happened :P This was my other inspo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHOupoaiqNl8eK8si=_tHcoKIJNw2D8B59

When you mentioned a kid calendar I suddenly remembered the family planner on the kitchen wall when I grew up. Do you have any plans to have a physical less in depth calendar (just outside work stuff) when Rowan gets older? I'm sort of assuming he won't have a phone or similar device for a long time, since that seems to be how most parents I see online roll these days :)
@morehannah2 сағат бұрын
We already do have a physical wall calendar that has more top level stuff like trips/visitors and when either Dan or I are out so the other is on parenting duty alone
