Are My Chickens Eating? Feed drama continues.

👍You’re doing a good job with your hens. Chickens can be picky. My ten + year old backyard hen prefers soft fruits & vegetables. She ignores her seed mix. I thought maybe she needed different grit. But nope she’s just picky & she’s got me trained. She laid an egg almost every day for over ten years so I take care of her. I tape long lasting disposable hand warmers on her water container to keep it from freezing. Just like your hens she likes to be hand fed. Also I sprinkle her pellets & seeds on her vegetables in a dog dish with bacon grease to keep her warm.

@ArnoldZiffle-jw2mv aw cheers to your 10+ year old girl! How sweet and she just has it her way 🥰 today there is evidence that they are eating a bit more normally so yay! This breed, red stars/sex links are vulnerable to problems and vitamin deficiencies so I would have to supplement if they continued to not eat or find another brand for the 8th time! Haha Good advice about the hand warmer especially if I had to be away! Thank you, many blessings!!

@ glad they are eating, on the farm we had hundreds of chickens & they ate! They took care of mice & even small snakes. Maybe a weather change coupled with a hawk scare or other predator might have your chickens upset? They certainly have personalities & some enjoy being fed in person. Sounds like you know what you’re doing & it looks like your hens like you 👍

@ArnoldZiffle-jw2mv oooooh could be a hawk scare we get A LOT! My hope is to get a few barred rock, I read the darker chickens repel the hawks! Thank you for the encouragement ♥️

Spoiled chickens 😅😅 LOL they are cute 😅. We all loke treats 😅 especially people & cats 🐈 love treats. I wonder if the chicken food has been changed by the companies? Iam not a chicken expert & caring for chickens looks difficult. Give them a plate on floor. Chickens picky like cats?

@PollyT.Pocket22 Most of the time they are the opposite of picky haha! But certain things can cause them to act like this such as stress or in this case switching their feed! It's hard to really tell if they're being dramatic but they're not above being dramatic 😂 they've seemd to have adjusted the past few days. It's also usually not difficult, until something happens... some never run into problems, some of us do but it's worth it❤️
