I feel similarly most of the time, it’s rare that I care about much in a direct! This time I only moved for Splatoon 3 DLC and Princess Peach Showtime (and maybe some smaller stuff actually iirc) I was really hoping for a Fire Emblem announcement just because I hope a Geneology Lab make really is in the works, but if it does exist, maybe they still don’t want it to eclipse Engage? Which is understandable but I don’t think Engage has much staying power (I say as a person who’s beaten it like 8 times now) I would even gag if Metroid was announced even though I have no intention of playing it! I just don’t get hyped for Mario at allllll Also congrats on finishing Boys Planet, I couldn’t bring myself to watch it even though I really liked Lee Hwanhee and Lee Dongyeol from their prior group UP10TION. Congrats to the winners but I was kinda hoping produce was dead in a ditch somewhere! It sells though

yeah princess peach showtime was fun, I think the game is actually pretty cool, I just am so hungry for the genealogy remake like please I know you're hiding it nintendo pleaaaaaase also I couldn't believe I watched all of bp like I can't stand survival shows I usually think they're so boring, but bp I guess scratched a specific itch bc it's totally consumed my mind's bandwidth lmao

I definitely agree that Directs lately feel almost like they aren't really trying, because the over-reliance on the IPs they know will sell like Mario and Pokémon is just becoming clearer and clearer. They don't need to spread actual excitement with these projects, or bring back old IPs or create new ones, because the crutch of Mario, Pokémon, and low effort remakes/ports is so strong. I hate that these low-effort remakes are becoming so much more common, as opposed to just having them through NSO, but I'm also very aware of the fact that digital media can just be revoked at any time, and that one day when we have a repeat of the closing of the 3DS Store, we lose the opportunity to get these NSO titles. I'm in a frustrating middle-ground. As much as Directs are becoming noticeably dull, I still watch them every time and I don't know how much of that is Nintendo having me in a chokehold 😭 But Eiyuden Chronicles is giving very much Suikoden, Princess Peach Showtime is something they made for me personally, and Unicorn Overlord has an unfortunate name but pretty privilege has me wanting to know more, so I'm always happy to tune in for these hidden gems. I just wish we could revisit old series with new ideas. Instead of remaking TTYD, just make Paper Mario good again. Give us Kid Icarus Uprising 2. Give us F-Zero where we can customise cars or something, let me let Captain Falcon drive the drag mobile. Give us Sigurd's abs in 3D ffs we've know about it for 500 years at this point. And please, give us Xeno X on Switch, then we can actually have the full set on one console.

Yeah digital licensing has always been a little iffy for me bc it's not something you own, idk. And I guess it's just good for my wallet that nintendo is making games that I want less frequently now, gives me time to catch up on my backlog lmao. And yeah I couldn't agree more, pls nintendo reopen the vault and give us what we've been clamoring for! Like the genealogy rumours have been circulating for YEARS, and there are so many other good legacy IPs that they've left behind that would see a ton of fan support because smash keeps those characters mainstream

Is 13 sentinels good? Unicorn Overlord definitely piqued my interest, I'm dying for more Fire Emblem and I'm looking for other things to fill the narrative and gameplay void lol. Also I love "This could have been an email", that's definitely the feeling from some of the presentations lately.

The idea that a lot of directs could be condensed into an email is very felt. With a few exceptions, Nintendo's game trailers don't tend to be very cinematic so it often feels like time wasted if the game isn't inherently interesting to me. Couple that with the wide net they cast leading to only a handful of announcements exciting any given demographic and it can be hard to justify sitting through them. Perhaps their approach could be improved if they tried to more clearly segment directs by genre? Then I could skip to the JRPGs and turn-based tactics games and not have to spend time learning about the latest farming simulator or FPS. Then again, directs are primarily marketing material, so that approach would likely be counterproductive from their pov.

Building on the idea that the directs could be segmented, I think they could've had a whole section just on games that they're remaking? and then there's at least some indication that everything else in the direct is new content in one way or another. Also, thanks for watching!

To be fair, with the Genealogy Remake, it was a Japanese only game that a lot of Westerners have never touched. Paper Mario TTYD and Luigi’s Mansion 2 had their chance to shine in the West. I think it’s fair for you to be excited for that, but less excited for the other 2 games. Also, I am excited for Unicorn Overlord!!! I’m kinda clamoring for another strategy RPG, and the storyline reminds me of Marth’s games from FE, so I wanna see like how VanillaWare does their spin on it. Seems cool. It made me giggle when the trailer for Unicorn Overlord was like “Atlus and VanillaWare present the REBIRTH of tactical fantasy RPGs” I was like damn ma ok Atlus/Vanillaware throwing shade at Intelligent Systems OOP! The girls are fighting!!! (I’m just joking but it made me laugh lol).

The thing isz we getting end of the year I dont expect a ton from directs at this point. *all directs is fine this year* if we assume the "rumors" are true and we getting a upgraded switch 2.0 *probably wont be on par with ps5 or xbox x maybe with xbox s* They would want to save any newer bigger games for 2.0 launch to pull people into upgrading with day 1 relase at same time new switch or around that time frame. No one going want upgrade if no newer games are coming out for it. Like metroid prime 4

The directs have definitely been kinda underwhelming. Trace Memory (or Another Code as they called it now) is another remake that was announced in that direct. It's a cute game and I am looking forward to it and it comes with the sequel that was never released abroad. At the same time it was probably like one of the last games I ever expected to see again. But you are so right, so many of them are just remakes or remasters of old games. OR MARIO. There was way too much Mario - granted I am not a Mario fan at all. It does feel weird that they used that last announcement, that's supposed to be kinda hype and new, on a remake lol TTYD is great apparently, but Metroid Prime 4 or a new F-Zero would probably have been more fitting? Also, the direct kinda had a lot of FE-likes but no FE which is kinda wild. Unicorn Overlord looks great tho to stave off the longing for FE4 for now. I guess Intelligent Systems is busy working on that Wario Ware game. Currently playing Path of Exile and before that was Baldurs Gate 3 (so fucking good) - Just bought 13 Sentinels off a 75% sale on the switch tho so will be starting that soonish :)

Yeah I think if the directs had a greater variety OR were like half the length, it might feel a little less meh, but they dedicated a lot of time to stuff we already knew was happening. And yeah I've heard TTYD is the best paper mario, but I really would love it if nintendo stopped porting GC games to switch at $60 a pop. I want Baldur's Gate 3 so badly but I don't think my computer can handle it and I want it for PC. I might revisit 13 sentinels again soon, it's been in the back of my mind to talk about for forever, I hope you enjoy it!

@@sylphiemk When is your PC from? Mine is like 2015 with a 1060 - I ran it on MINIMUM requirements just fine (hell, I forced it to run high settings anyway) Baldur's Gate 3 should not be missed for sure!

I got my laptop in 2020, I’m sure it could run BG3 but I already put a lot of stress on it and it gets pretty hot. My old laptop had an overheating problem so I’m a little extra cautious about it haha. I will definitely get the game soon though

xenoblade chronicles x DESERVES a port to the switch i’m surprised they didn’t announce it when they put the first xenoblade on switch tbh and don’t even get me started on kid icarus… not only did they make one of the best games i’ve ever played but then they went and did palutena’s guidance in smash. what was the point of developing all these fun characters and hunting at future conflicts and then not do anything with it WE WERE ROBBED

I'm almost positive F-Zero 99 exists solely to gauge interest, particularly because the Mario and Tetris BRs were shortlived so it's not like they intend this to be a long-term thing. it's fine and all but us F-Zero fans are accustomed to starvation so I'll just keep chilling until if/when another one happens also re: 13 Sentinels, that game holds the dubious honor of being the literal only game I had to quit because it skeeved me out too much

I can't recall all the details leading up to it because it's been a minute, but besides all the teens being stripped in the mechs I remember the final nail being the game going into slow-mo on the movie obsessed girl as she went to change her shirt, only to be interrupted by the plot. It struck me as particularly rough bc there were no other actions happening or characters present, it was just for the viewer's enjoyment*. Never came back to it after that.

Are Nintendo Directs Boring? Well yes of course! Most of the time it's: Mario, Pokemon, Kirby, Fire Emblem, Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Mario, another Mario, another Mario again, Pokemon, Fire Emblem and it keep going like that so I end up to wait that a Nintendo Direct is done like that I can watch the replay and slide above the video timelapse and if I see something who catch my attention, I stop to slide it and I watch it so the only game who keep my attention are only if it's talk about Star Fox, F-Zero, Kid Icarus, Metroid and Smash Bros. For others? It's meh as the Nintendo Switch suffer a lack of variety who isn't another Mario, Pokemon, Kirby, Zelda and Fire Emblem game.
