THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! I am a middle school science teacher and I bring in "special guests" all of the time. I actually just showcased some spiny orb weavers today and the kids LOVED it! Some of them overcame their fear of spiders and it peaked the interest of others. I am going to share this video with them. :) As time goes on, the groups of students get more and more "tech focused" and they miss out on the amazing things that are going on right out in their back yard! Videos like this and "meet and greets" definitely open their eyes to the world around them. So, once again, THANK YOU!!!

@@TheWildReportOfficial Great video and lovely home exterior. I'm up on the East coast and stumbled across a giant orb weaver posted in my backyard on a web. She's been there for months, and I would greet her with a smile nearly everyday. I discovered she passed away recently. She has provided a great service during the summer by cleaning out the unwanted mosquitoes and window flies in the area. I did manage to spot one of her babies by her post. I decided to babysit, placed it in a small container with twigs and food so it can survive as the winter approaches.

I am someone who has a fear reaction to spiders. I don't kill them or harm them once I see them because I also find them absolutely fascinating. About 18 years ago I moved all my photography equipment into the front yard at night because I had 5 of these spiders in my front yard and I wanted to spend time photographing them in studio lighting and got some great photos. What I could never bring myself to do was to pick one up. I love seeing you handle these because it really helps demystify their aggression and relieve a little bit more of my phobia.

And there are also new orbweaver called samon a new type of species can only be found in isabela philippines they are the parents of the derby orbweavers, thanks to their parents species they also have derby experience which is top of the food chain against agriope species,nephila species,and also portia species. This is a pretty late comment, but here in the Philippines, Orb Weavers are hunted not for food, but for a hobby, some just want to keep around 4 or 6 weavers and take care of them and their babies, and some are using it for spider brawl/spider fighting. Some fights are just a friendly fight where they put the orb weavers on a single stick and wait for them to meet each other and start the fight. Other are actual tournament where certain spiders ( orb weavers ) are being conditioned by sparring, training, and some mixture that we call G-load (context: spiders here are called "GAGAMBGA" and load means a mixture used to load em up/get them ready to fight, basically it is a GAGAMBA LOAD) mixtures can contain something like a mix of energy drink and vitamins, some are herbs, as long as it has an effect on the spider eg. making them aggressive, alert, faster, quicker reflexes, etc. some loads are just PURE MANACE and a single dose of the most effective loads are going to turn even the most simpliest, smallest, docile, and friendly orb weaver into a killing machine, some small orb weavers are seen fight fighting a bigger orb weaver, like 2 to 4 times it's size and still win, That is how effective some of the G-load here in the Philippines.

I have 3 of the hentz orb weavers on my front porch in North Carolina right not, it's impressive how fast they build their webs and how strong the silk is, they catch the mosquitoes and gnats so I don't mess with them, gonna have to move one and destroy its web though because it's directly over my favorite chair and I have to sit scrunched up to keep my head out of the web though lol

Man, I just stumbled upon your channel and this video off of searching for Florida orb weavers. I found one walking my dog at night and almost walked right through that giant web. I took a few pictures but can’t quite get the details to compare with online fotos, now I MUST know which spider it is, but my knowledge in the matter is nonexistent. How can I send you these pictures, if interested, to maybe identify it? Loved the vid btw, don’t think it’s the spider I saw though.

Ive got 2 orb weavers. One is on my back door wall built her web over the glass door and shelters in the corner. Figured after I Accidentally then purposely took the web down a few times she would move. Stuborn thing so I let her stay and actually started putting moths in her web . She seems to apreciate it. The other is on my front porch with a beautiful web from piller to piller, also white, must be sisters. That one built a silk shelter in the corner because shes not as protected as the one out back tucked in the corner by the wall. Any way you answered my question. These spiders will die this winter after they lay their eggs. Ill let the new home owner worry about that. Ive been admiring and enjoying watching them. Was hoping they would go into a torpor though but if thats the end of their life cycle so be it.

Wow, that's awesome! Sometimes I do think the female has enough energy to make it through the winter but that's pretty rare. Thanks for sharing!

Always dreaded walking through my backyard right into a spider web as a child. Just wish there was, nobody that took the time to explain to my young self how necessary, wonderful and beautiful spiders are. That being said, please teach ur children about science and nature. You will be doing a great service to them in the future!! They will love it,;

Not sure if it was this species, but had a big orb weaver web above my wife’s little bucket that she had put some fish in. One day saw a little fish in the web. I have no idea how, but I saw it. Have a photo too

Is the Hentz Orb Weaver the same as the Spotted Orb Weaver? I have that same spider in my yard and it had those two distinct yellow spots on its belly.

As a keeper of more than a dozen tarantulas, I love these spiders. I live in the woods of South Jersey, so I have dozens of these around my house. I also have Asian hornets around my porch light at night. One swift swing of a tennis racket nocks them down, and I feed them to the Orb weavers. In a few seconds the Orb weaver has them wrapped up ready for a nice supper!!!

The orb weaver that bit me today hurt more than a mosquito. It was more yellowish though. It felt like a bee sting and it left a red spot the size of a quarter. Thx for posting though😊
@lesaamoore Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks a bunch. Question: We have about 20 of them in the garden and they seem to be multiplying. It makes it hard to garden- I’ve been bit once already by unknowingly disturbing a web. Should I start to think about controlling the population? We are in temperate California so there is no cold winter. Thanks in advance!
@TheWildReportOfficial Жыл бұрын
Hmm tough question. I think that taking the webs down with a stick and relocating them to a different part of your yard enough times should do the trick.

People’s irrational fear of spiders just blows me away. I’m constantly having to stop dummies at work from smashing them.

Funny for the entire filming of the video that Orbie was trying to get away, and when he’s done and goes to put it back it just sat there. But yea they are incredibly necessary for our environment.

I’ve had one of these guys living on my balcony window for a month or so. He minds his business and I feel like we’re buddies from a distance haha. I finally got close enough to look at him and had to google his features to ID him. Do I feel like creepy crawlers are all over me now ? Yes. But it’s cool to see this dude hanging in the same spot every day in his massive orb web.

Neoscona Genus Orb Weaver's Spiders are a favorite pastime for Filipinos for pets, cultivating, breeding and spider derby. We usually call it Derby or Fighting Spider and people do bet on them specially on national derby tournaments where the minimum is $2000 for the rich and around a $100 for the average and $50 for small timer's. Today i kept 1 feeds it everyday with insects and i know i have probably over feeding her everyday and the consequences is a shorter lifespan but hey we Filipinos love their sizeds and she already laid 2 clutches of eggs the first batch hatched about a week ago and i set them free on my backyard where our plants lie and now i am waiting for the 2bd clutches to hatch and like the previous clutch set them free on their own many world die but at least u give them the best possible place where all coui hatched successful and greater amounts could survive. Maybe another 2 weeks if so she would star shedding and gonna look out for that time and moist her enclosure to help humidify her home and help her easily shed so no stuck or the worst failure leads to death.

We would rent a cabin on my pops favorite lake, one night I just sat at the window and watched an orb weaver construct it's web. Took an hour or so. My mom couldn't figure why I would be so fascinated by that.
