I adore the overall bittersweet theme Monsters University and Cars 3 share of "no matter how hard you dedicate to achive a goal, you just won't be able to do it. Not everyone's goal is achievable but that's okay because you can attempt similar paths to fufill your needs." Mike Wazowski always wanted to be a scarer and he when he couldn't, he later coaches and trains others to be what he always wanted to do before. Lighting McQueen has tried for months to outbeat Jackson Storm and be in his prime again, but has never been able to do so and ends up letting someone else take his position instead and guides them to excel at their role, possibly more than his prime did. I love these two films for tackling this theme because it's part of a nice lesson of life not being perfect, but there's still hope nonetheless Edit: I forgot to mention how Cars 3 has the better execution of "woman power" theme than Captain Marvel did, Cruz Ramirez solos Captain Marvel xDDDDD

I guess my main problem with incredibles 2 is that it feels like a more generic superhero adventure movie when the first was more than that. The first has a really good representation on what real people struggle with and has some very mature and realistic conversations between characters. Some of that is retained in the sequel but I feel like most of it gets shafted away for filler scenes. That being said it’s still a good film, just has a noticeable step down in writing from the first

The issue with the Incredibles' sequel is that it was nearly a carbon copy of the first movie but watered down. Instead of Bob getting back into secret crime fighting, its Helen. Jack Jack technically saves the day, again. Speaking of Jack-Jack his story in this movie is pretty much a copy of the "Jack-Jack Attack" DVD extra about his traumatizing the babysitter. That bonus story was originally suppose to be in the movie. In the sequel instead of the babysitter, it's Bob who is pushed the breaking point. Violet's relationship with Tony get a factory reset. Dash remains the comic relief but actually gets less character development than the first movie. We get another twist villain but this time its completely obvious and the reasoning for becoming a villain is idiotic. I also find it funny that both villains are incredibly wealthy tech geniuses. There are just so many of these copy paste moments in the movie that you have to ask yourself if they did it on purpose.

The most annoying part about Toy Story 4 to me isn’t its overall quality - tho it’s definitely not one of Pixar’s better films - but it’s just such a stupid addition to what felt like a great trilogy. The first three films had a solid start, middle and end, and felt like a complete journey not just for the characters, but for the audience that grew up beside the original movie. So when 4 comes along and doesn’t validate its existence at all, it sullies the impact of three’s ending so much more. It made money, and won an Oscar, but can anyone honestly tell me 4 feels like a necessary addition to the franchise?

I can. I definitely think the movie justified its own existence. It tackles and deconstructs themes and concepts that were present in the first three movies, but never fully explored. I’ll stand by Cars 3 not only being a good movie, but a necessary and interesting sequel. In Cars 1, Doc Hudson’s character is centered on the concept of race cars becoming outdated. This leaves a clear loose thread by the end of the movie that leaves the viewer wondering what this means for Lightning, since the movie never really addresses it. Cars 3 comes around and ties that thread. It’s also just a better movie than Cars 1 is, although that wasn’t exactly an impossible task (I’m saying that even as someone who likes Cars 1).

I think a lot of the hate comes from not only how they’re generally preserved as being made for the sake of earning a large box office gross more than art, but with how many of them came out in a small period of time. With only 4 out of 11 movies released in the 2010’s being original IP’s (2 of them having been forgotten), it did not help that most of the sequels felt like they were being made in the same vain as Disney live-action remakes, especially in the later half of the decade when Disney started pushing out more of those types of movies. With that being said, I would happily take a dozen Pixar sequels over one more Disney live-action remake. Even if they are “cash grab” or “nostalgia bait” movies, there’s at least some sort of heart and care put into them, and they generally have the freedom to go in whatever route they want to in order to make these characters and universes at the very least interesting. They can accomplish what Disney live-action remakes do without being extremely bland, boring, and dependent on nostalgia.

Like, theres so much to explore in that world that it felt right for a sequel to happen, like frozone barely having any screen time, or the family for exemple, on the first movie we mostly only seem bob and get to know him more than the others, and because of that, the rest of the family kinda felt underdevelop in comparison, specially violet and dash, and i really liked how the second movie decided to give the spotlight to helen this time and developed her further than the first movie, and i know this is a weid thing to mention about the movie, but IMO the entire family is the protagonist and their relationship with each other is one of the reasons why the plot was so great and superior to so many other super hero movies. Honestly I think a animated series where each episode focused on a different family member would've been cool, like how the comics do.

The next movies Disney is making are ONLY sequels except Elio who is an original film by Pixar. Moana 2, Frozen 3 and 4, Toy story 5, Zootopia 2, Inside out 2. ALL of them are in 3D which is dissapointing. Disney was really good with 2D; Rescuers, Aladdin, Mulan, Little mermaid, Aristocats, Lady and the Tramp, Treasure planet, Atlantis etc. I miss this style of animation 🙁

I heard around April there is going to be some negotiations of putting some people Iger dislike as board members of Disney which is probably why there has been a lot of sequel announcements so Iger can prove to investors that they can still make Disney successful.

I always say about Cars 2 that it's a fairly decent movie, but I hate that they wasted the international racing aspect by using it as a set piece instead of having take center stage showing how racing circuits around the world are different and the racers from there showing it with their designs and their racing styles If they made Cars 2 as a movie that was part of the Mater's Tall Tales series it'd have been such a good movie having Mater actually go on a wild adventure that ends up with McQueen getting involved and the two save the world in the later half rather than just in the last 10 or so minutes

Toy story 4 is funny i will admit for sure but it comes at the cost of the story and continuity reminds me of thor ragnarok jokes well made but comes at the expanse of story and continuity. I noticed writers give up solid writing and continuity for the sake of jokes or telling the story they need so badly by taking compromises. When you see toy story 2 commentaries they care about consistency in writing which i find admirable as i care about that a lot personally. Yeah no, it deconstructs the previous films in an interesting way, showing the reality compared to that ideal. Toys don't just have to make children happy. TS4 I think should've been a start to a new trilogy with new toys to focus on. By the title alone, Toy Story doesn't have to be exclusive to the toys we've been following, any toy can have their own story going on. I think they should've taken the chance to do something new.

I don’t care what anyone says I absolutely love the cars franchise. The original was the first movie I saw in a theater and it grabbed me. It’s just a simple story that I don’t find boring at all. I really like the characters, arcs, score, and especially the race scenes. They just managed to grab me in a way where it felt extremely comforting and familiar and I love it for that. Plus I feel like people dunk on this franchise too much and decide to ignore all the emotional moments just because Cars 2 exists. I get why people hate Cars 2 but I genuinely can’t hate the movie. It is a stupid movie but it is incredibly fun to watch. I think I respect it just because of how balls to the wall it is. Also the music and animation slap. It also at least tried to do something with its characters as well. Cars 3 is probably my biggest hot take. Cars 3 is my favorite of all the non Toy Story Pixar sequels. I just love how this movie is a tribute to Doc Hudson and Paul Newman. Lightning’s character arc is also extremely well done and genuine. I love that he learned that Doc’s best part of his life was training him. That scene gets me to tear up to this day. Cruz’s arc was also heartwarming and it was rewarding to see both her and Lighting succeed in the end. In my opinion it’s the only Pixar franchise that ended on a good note. The only problems I have is that Jackson Storm isn’t really a good villain and some of the Lighting is old jokes get old quickly, but besides that I still love Cars 3. I wish people would look at it and the whole franchise with more respect than it has.

i personally think the biggest reason Incredibles 2 was not as good as it couldv'e been was the higher ups pushing the release date forward by a year. It may not have become a masterpiece like the original, but if the proper amount of time was given to Brad Bird, I believe the movie couldv'e come close. Like we saw in the scene that was cut of gaserbeam's funeral, there were those mature elements there. Even in the final movie. I think, Screenslaver, removed from Evelen, could have been something. His speech, as Elastigirl was tracking him down, tells us why he is doing this, people being consumed by media and not living in the moment and with the world around you. This could have been an interesting topic to discuss. The Underminer couldv'e had a bigger role instead of screenslaver. We'll never know because the film we got was rushed.

Jesus, I rewatched Monsters University recently with family and i realized, holy shit poor Randy had an awful time at college. He arrived and was lonely, wanting nothing more than to make new friends and feel popular for once in his life. Spent the first part of the movie becoming friends with Mike and tried to help him. After Sulley got kicked out of ROR (which was essentially the "cool bully" group of the college) they replaced Sulley with Randy, Mike went to try to ask Randall for help and to join his team, but he was too late, by the time he did Randy had already joined ROR, they only truly liked him for his ability to turn invisible. As the two groups fought each other in the scare games, they went against one another but were never really harsh against one another. How ROR treated it's members as "the bullies" changed how he began to treat his old friend, joining in on their prank and making fun of Mike's new team. At the end of the movie, when ROR Went up against OK (mike's team) it was Randall vs. Sulley in the simulator for scaring children. Sully went in and did a loud, extremely good roar that shook the room making Randall fall onto a heart-patterned rug of pink and purple in the room, making him lose his camouflage and instead taking the same colors. He got the lowest score of ROR. Upon coming out the other members of ROR insulted him with the leader chastising him for losing, making him say that would be the last time he'd lose to Sulley. (and making him bitter) The event ended with ROR narrowly losing to OK when Mike pulled off the final scare. At the end they kicked Randy out of the group entirely and he was never seen again for the entirety of the rest of the movie, either implying A: he hid away in shame and was a wreck afterwards, or B: they harmed him or did something to him that made him physically incapable of appearing again onscreen, telling Sulley instead that they were wrong and they "had a spot for him right here". My mans didn't deserve the hand he got dealt. :( TLDR: Randall had it bad in Monsters University, he: Joined as a shy nerd who just wanted to make friends and feel what it was like to be popular. Actually got "in" with the "cool guys" on campus, only for his ability to become invisible, and they essentially gaslit and changed his views and actions towards others, making him more of a bully himself to try to fit in. Then, was kicked out at the end, blamed as the sole reason they failed, and left with nothing.. not even the one friend he'd truly made who it seemed had just forgotten all about him, or he'd pushed away for being his enemy. I hope they do something with him in the future..

I think Toy Story 4 is one of the best post-TS3 Pixar sequels, honestly. It's also the worst Toy Story, but not by THAT much. People make their minds up before some of these movies come out because we "dont need" another installment. I dont care if we "don't need" another Toy Story, or any other franchise, I care if the movie is good. And some of them are good, some are mediocre, some are actually just awful. They don't have to match the greatness of the original material to be solid and worthwhile.
