It's so cute the way british people pronounce th like it's an f. It's the cutest fing ever. But jokes aside, great critique of the horrible writing from BL 3 thanks to sweet baby Inc being involved. It was the first Borderlands of the franchise that I didn't 100% because I refused to do the side missions for the brat because I hated her so much.

When I saw people talking about Mabel giving bill the rift, I thought she gave it to bill as bill. I had no idea that Bill was disguised as Blendin, and it's weird that nobody ever talks about that. She didn't know that she was giving it to Bill, Mabel thought she was giving the rift (and she didn't even know what it was) to Blendin, who at that point was her ally.

Mable is flawed but she grows for her mistakes. She’s trying her best. She wants what she wants and she wants and she’s going to try to get it, but when she hurts others by doing so she feels awful and tries to make things right.

Hot take- Dipper was always the more delusional and selfish one out of the twins, his wants and the things he’s “sacrificing” are predominantly just his connection with Wendy which he can’t get through his head that he’s 12 and she’s like 14-16 which is a very different maturity and development level and she’s made it clear she’s not going to have that type of relationship with him and he dismisses it almost every time. He knows he doesn’t have a chance with Wendy the whole series and chooses to ignore it and tries to guilt trip Mabel into sacrificing whatever interest or want she has even when it comes to their literal safety in the Halloween episode as an example. Yes he has moments where he temporarily chooses to not pursue Wendy for the greater good, but those times are abysmally low compared to the times he doesn’t.

I never thought that Mabel was a bad person because 1. She’s a 12 year old girl 2. She didn’t know about the rift and what it does 3. She never did things in bad faith just made mistakes and 4. Siblings teasing each other is just normal.

The art style wasnt for me. At all. But worse then that, the show needed like 30% more frames to look smooth. Lastly the actual plot was just trash

Also, something worth pointing out is that fandom spaces are sometimes rampant with both misogyny and a severe lack of media literacy, which makes for a very tough situation for any female character who dares to have human flaws.

As someone who was annoyed with Mabel and didn’t connect her reasoning for her actions in finale episodes when the show first aired, looking back with an adult’s perspective really just goes to show that she was just a kid. Like people really had beef with a 12 year old girl who knits puppies playing basketball on sweaters cause she didn’t want to be separated from her brother? Wild

Mabel came about at a time when fandom misogyny was at an all time high. She was doomed from the start.

It's not made clear IN the show, but knowing that key part of info makes that ''flaw'' not really a flaw either. But I'm one of those who already didn't really think she was a bad character but watched this anyways. This little info I didn't see in the vid so thought I would add it here. Great stuff.

The lamest TV show I've ever watched. Not surprised its fanbase is full of people who say shit like "pet parent" and "hecking".

I will say, I had come under the impression that Mable was a less then stellar character on my own, but this video makes a whole lotta sense. thanks.

I think the hatred for Mabel paralleled the whole manic pixie dream girl trope that was at the time trending. Many people were tired of the unrealistic writing of those characters, or actually loved female characters like those, so when Mabel (who ticks many boxes of this trope like Summer from 500 days of Summer) shows actual personality, and flaws especially as a female character, people saw more space to criticize and hate on her.

gravity falls is one summer, of course people arent gonna learn lessons that fast, especially children, the fact that she makes the mistake a few times, but by the end of the summer it seems to finally stick, is actually realistic!

Mabel isn't selfish, she is just a well meaning yet wishy washy, forgive the term, idiot. I think it's because we as a society, me especially, tend to demonize well meaning idiots regardless of context. They frustrate us for no good reason. That and most viewers are 12 and 12 YO kids hating on 12 Year olds is a canon event.

And that's why i didn't bother with much beyond 2.

"Mable always makes fun of Dipper! She's a bad person!!!!" Tell me you're a single child without telling me. Seriously, ask any siblings how accurate it is, and they'll tell you Mable and Dippers siblinghood is angelic. It gets SO MUCH worse with real siblings lol. I say this as an older sister who considers her younger sister her best friend.

I never hated Mabel then again I'm also the oldest of four and I found her actions really reasonable, same with Dipper.

15:16 I think is also important to point out that while the relationship wouldn't have happened as Dipper would have liked, He is actively manipulating Wendy to put her in a situation where she would be more likely to think fondly of him. Which to me highlights how selfish Dipper is being in this moment, not that I think he's terrible or anything but this would have been just as bad as Mabel in Love God if he didn't undo it.

I feel this show could've been even more better if Dave Wasson never left the show after Season 1 and should've stayed on board as producer,director,and writer for Star and would've never made the show go on a downward spiral around Battle of Mewni,before entering a trash fire in Seasons 3-4,since he was the driving force(alongside Daron) that made Star Vs. start on a good note with Season 1. he was one of the reasons what made the show so great in the first place,even the first season and the true creator of the show,alongside Daron Nefcy, he would've handled the story and characters better and prevented Daron Nefcy from going too far with her shipping idea,made Battle of Mewni a all-out war instead of a arc full of filler episodes and relying on bad writing,since he is a good creator,animator, and writer with great and logical intentions and contributed and know how to make characters with flaws(like Star,Moon,River,Marco,Pony Head,and Tom Lucitor)enjoyable and likable to watch like how he did with the Paul Rudish Mickey Mouse shorts,The Cuphead Show,Time Squad,and Making Fiends. Dave Wasson's depature after Season 1 was one of the reasons the show went on a downward spiral during Season 2(even if it was still good and starting to get better until Battle of Mewni and S3-4)and Seasons 3-4 is when the show entered a dumpster fire. and he would freelanced and took time away from the show to write and direct episodes for Disney's new 2010's Mickey Mouse shorts and after Star ended,he would've created the Cuphead Show. Dave Wasson was the reason he made and developed alongside Daron Nefcy for the show to be great in the first place. I hope if Disney comes back and revives Star for a timeskip sequel series or movie once day in the future,they would rehire Dave Wasson and he would've been shown and be aware of the show's flaws and mistakes,mostly in Seasons 2-4 and the damages Daron did in the final season and fixed everything that went wrong and make it better. Star really went downhill cause it was not the same without Dave Wasson after he left in Season 1 and Dave would've prevented Daron and the crew from going too far and made it even better if he stayed by Daron's side and kept her from going too far and revised the scripts first.
