I'm glad you posted this video. My pomsky Pandy is an excellent hunter. She turned 2 in June and has really started taken charge of the back yard. We have a large fenced yard that goes down the hill to a ravine and creek. When we got to OH in the spring she started hunting. She got one squirrel, two robins and four groundhogs. My beautiful girl turned into a serial killer.

Hi James and Laurent: Thank you for this very detailed and well-presented video. What I love is how you make an effort to include both visual footage as well as verbal explanations. I really appreciate that you make your videos entertaining and educational; they're not like: OOOH LOOK AT OUR CUTE DOGGY WOGGY, ISN'T SHE JUST SOOOOO ADORABLE? LOOK AT ALL THE CLOTHIES WE BOUGHT HER, AND LOOK AT HOW SHE'S DRESSED UP LIKE A DOLLIE! OOOH PUPPY! 🤢 Honestly, I had never heard of Pomskies until I found your channel. Here's the thing for me... I love Huskies. I categorize them as rocket power dogs. They are physically gorgeous--and I'm a sucker for their coats--but more than anything, I love their drive, braininess, and work ethic; if I was guaranteed to have a huge space, lots of time and energy to spare, I would have one along with a second German Shepherd from working lines to do different sports and/or work. Pomeranians on the other hand… I'm sure they can be sweet and wonderful dogs, though I have yet to meet a handler who doesn't treat theirs like a furry baby. (The last one I encountered yapped and yipped at my dog while we were crossing a street; his *enlightened* handler squawked: "No no Mitsy, be nice. Nice doggy, nice... Behave for mommy!") I'm always a lot cringy about some of the "fad" dog mixes. Watching your videos on Pomskies though, I find myself interested and engaged. The dog training nerd in me is stimulated and I am thinking about things like drives, energy, and all the other technical aspects that committed handlers and trainers understand. I think it would be really educational to meet a Pomsky and his/her competent handler/s someday. I laughed when you talked about your girl and squirrels. This isn't at all to suggest anything, I'm just thinking out loud: I wonder how she would actually take to eating one if offered to her. I know some raw feeders feed squirrel, though it's the handler who gets/hunts them, not the dog. ::LOL:: And finally, how fantastic that Red Barn sponsored this video. The only things I have ever gotten from them were bullysticks. I'll have to give their foods a looksee because I do feed HughBrew Shepherd a rotational diet. Thank you for the great content. Take care.

Yes, some people have mixed feelings about cross-breeding a Husky and a Pomeranian, although, nowadays, most Pomskies are 2nd or 3rd generation from Pomsky parents. We got one for the simple reason we wanted a Husky but didn't want a large dog. And that's exactly what we got 😂🤣😂.

I have a purebred gunpup yellow lab...and a pomsky. We are in the woods alot. The pomsky is a smarter hunter, locates the animals before the lab almost every time, and stealthier. Guess it depends how much time u spend hunting but they absolutely are great hunters.

My girl is a year now as of May 22...her prey drive is strong!! I was walking in a state park in Michigan and am sure she could have got a chipmunk if not on leash. She goes after ducks, birds, squirrels, bunnies, etc. I also heard a mouse near my front door this past Winter. Actually, she heard it first, think would have gotten it

U have said many times that Pomsky are finicky eaters. Has Bidie (sorry if I spelled it wrong) just stopped like a food like over night? Was fine at breakfast but wouldn’t touch it at dinner.
@JamesandLaurent4 жыл бұрын
No. Pomskies are known for not eating lots of food that other dogs would be perfectly happy to eat. Most Pomsky owners have to find through trial and error what their Pomsky like and doesn't like. And even when there is something they like one day, they may get tired of it overtime. That's why rotating food is so important, so that they don't get tired of it. But we have never experienced what you are describing.

@@JamesandLaurent thank u for the advice. He is still a puppy so is still eating puppy formula. We had to start adding brown rice and chicken to get him to eat

What type of harness do you use? I’ve got a kong harness on my pomsky but she’s learned how to slip out of it (it goes over her head and it’s the tightest it can be).
@JamesandLaurent3 жыл бұрын
We don't know the brand because the label had faded, but it's an easy step-through harness. She got away from it once when she was a puppy and we had to clamp the two sides to make sure it wouldn't come loose. But she's a lot better behaved now than when she was a puppy.

Our pomsky has caught at least a couple of squirrels in our fenced in back yard. She's quite husky-like in her look and behavior. And her very favorite toy is that same squirrel toy as Beedi! :D One only lasts about 1-2 weeks at a time. You mentioned that Beedi hates water--I'm wondering if that's typical of pomskies. Our pomsky also hates water and thinks baths are THE WORST! (she just had one because she rolled in something gross in the back yard...)
@JamesandLaurent3 жыл бұрын
They seem to have a lot in common. Luckily, she is a lot less destructive with her toys now vs. when she was a puppy.

My guy is 10 lbs, 2 yrs old. His prey drive is Huge. Bunnies, squirrels, chipmunks, woodchucks, birds. He loves water, and will try to swim-chase seagulls. I believe if he had the opportunity, he would catch and eat everything he goes after.

My intact female pomsky is 75 husky/ 25 Pomeranian. (27lbs) (lean) (short hair) 3yrs old. I use her to handle raccoons. (I do not let her kill them as we are keeping them away, in fact she has never killed an animal) She is a great hunting dog and gets them to tree. She does NOT bark while “hunting”, unlike “hunting dogs” Also my dog stays by and does not run off like “hunting dogs”. I also can tell her to stop and she will stop chasing said prey..Other facts: I am with my dog 24 hours a day, off leash hike, she started raw at 10 weeks of age. Now I feed her cooked food grinded (whole turkey) by myself. Also eats 2 fresh raw chicken eggs a day. Has minimum body fat.

My Pomsky Bucky is the opposite of obedient....what a little rascal. Buckey like to chase and catch up to prey, but once he gets there he doesn't know what to do with it. I have to be very careful because once he starts to chase prey he blocks out the rest of the world and doesn't listen at all....even if I have treats.
