I have graduated from a private college and I work in IT industry where I have seen multiple people from private colleges and IITs and IIMs excel a lot and I have seen a bunch from both sets who didn't do that well because of not necessarily talent but lacking work ethic and having a bad attitude. So a lot depends how seriously you take your work be it anything. One thing is a fact that IIT and IIM colleges give you a better chance and a good push to start your career well. What you do with it is upto you.
