Excellent question and thank you for the video! It's definitely a personal choice. The fact that you know you're the only one that owns it puts the insane kind of premium on it. I personally just enjoy collecting and am not concerned with making money. If I am spending $200,000 toward my collection?? I can think of a long list of cards that I would go after. With that kind of money I could build a pretty diverse collection that would last generations as opposed to having it tied up in one card. 200k has to be piggy bank money for these kinds of prices to make since. In the structure of incomes I would be considered a working class subject. This stuff is out of my league. But even if I could afford it, I would still go after many other things before this. It would be pretty killer to pull one of these out of a pack! But that's probably got something to do with the newer pack/box prices being so high. I'll just stick to what I know and continue to educate myself and see where it gets me.... Right now, a box of 2024 NFL Prizm is $1500 (source : Dave & Adam’s - I’ve no doubt people can source cheaper elsewhere, even if not much is getting shaved off that price). Having a 1/1 card cover half the box price (or be the equivalent of 2.5 boxes in Cooper Dejean’s $3800 Best Offer) almost feels not enough. The tough part is that the entry point for certain wax is so high that it frames its best cards in a specific way. If you get a basic player’s 1/1 from a $1000 box, saying that card should be at worst $1000 doesn’t seem like a bad argument. The question is how it scales down through the rest of the numbered parallels and sometimes you can play the numbers game there to get a good deal. I won an auction this week for a rookie from a 2020s Prizm non-draft product - numbered to 5, and slabbed, for under $200. I knew what their 1/1 had gone for, leveraged accordingly for the /5 and still got it far below my projection.

Sports cards selling for thousands of dollars is some dumb shit. Lol It’s a piece of paper with no other added value. The only card I would buy at that kind of value is a grail card with an auto and patch.

cool cards for sure but it does seem that a lot of people are buying them for expected future value rather than true affinity for the card, which is a recipe for a downward price trend.

You just described 99% of people in the hobby since covid. Everybody is just chasing dollars. Clear indication is NOBODY keeps the cards after opening packs. We used to keep them all, now guys flip through looking for inserts, variations, and autos and the rest gets trashed. It's not a hobby anymore, its grown men playing the lottery and teaching that mindset to the kids who are trying to start collecting.

@ definitely the general hobby culture seems to be out of whack. My comment was mostly that black finites in theory should be stickier cards where collectors have pride of ownership rather than being flipped around, but sadly it seems that the arbitrage seekers think they can make a buck by flipping them, even at outrageous price points.

At this point in all sports cards 1 of 1 are overrated!!!!! U have RC with or without auto or patch or something plus every product has there version of a 1 of 1 so nothing really make theses special.
