Turn on a TV, these weirdos are getting exposed and getting canceled left and right. Holding onto to Tom Brady possibly the biggest fraud in sports history is a fools errand, he's a know liar who smashed his cell phone to hide evidence during deflategate incident among other things. Any week now proof can drop exposing him for a litany of terrible things. Was he at the Diddy parties? Was he at the rub & tug massage parlors(Orchids of Asia) with Robert Kraft? Why did his wife really leave him? Many don't know but Robert Kraft was close friends with Diddy, partied with him a lot, let him wear his super bowl rings, Diddy even hooked him up with younger attractive women. Look at how quick public sentiment turned on Belichick(he's dating a very young woman also). Tom Brady and even Lebron are risky investments imo, public perception of them is mixed at best and will more than likely will trend downwards as time goes on. I rather hold Peyton Manning, Drew Brees or Mahomes long term. Just my opinion folks no hate.

People who collect sports cards are not sophisticated. Neither are the people running breaks. That is why it works. What you are proposing is so out of touch and so far from reality.

A lot of people don’t rip wax at all. Just wait for those who do to list singles for sale & then nickel & dime the $hit out them for discounted PC cards. Not sure why anyone would rip wax anymore.

I think something that isn’t being talked about with this Backyard Breaks thing is that the damage has already been done. Any sane person who has seen their breaks over the years see’s the ignorant bro science attitude and culture that made them popular. *News Flash* These dudes along with idiots like Andrew Tate have been indirectly influencing and raising your boys for years now through what not and tik tok. There’s an entire generation of young men that have been poisoned by these ppl and we are only starting to scratch the surface of the damage that’s already been done.

If I give into a break it's someone local I know and trust. I will not do whatnot, or another platform like that, because I just don't trust all these breakers.

What was ever wrong with opening your own pack/box of cards? Nobody wants to touch a card anymore? You have to handle it with gloves and slab it instantly??!! A lot of prices being grossly out of touch with responsible people earning normal working incomes is preventing many from experiencing the pure unadulterated fun of collecting when it comes to newer releases. True collecting teaches you to be responsible with your money and money is never the dominate focus. There are honest values you learn from collecting that do not come with a price tag. Values that fathers have passed down to their sons for many generations. This aspect of collecting is being completely chewed on and spit out by some in the hobby. I am seeing some breakers offer store credit and other random prizes. SCD your comparison to gambling is definitely not far off at all!! As a parent, would you introduce your child to baseball card collecting this way? That's a no brainer no for me. What I see happening is Breaker's getting more inventive with their incentives and overall presentations to conjure loyalty. People becoming reliant upon the breaker to score a ton of product so they can buy in to their breaks as though it was a good deal. The house always wins mentality. People on the sideline settling to just buy singles. With no real regulations as we speak. How much money is being laundered? The price points and breaking element is making it the only way you will see what all a newer product has to offer is through a break. For those of us who remember life before the internet (As I leave a comment on KZbin. Ha! Ha!). This is stealing away from the joy and the element of surprise people would get from just simply digging for a pack out of a box and finding an awesome card. Some dude yelling at me that I am not bidding enough for his card he's selling me is far from entertaining. There's still room to own all the good things about collecting but definitely not the best direction the hobby is taking in my humble opinion. Adults have plenty of legal outlets to go gambling. This should not exist in baseball card collecting. This is far beyond a coin flip. For those of you who read my mile long old man comment!! God bless you! And thank you SCD for the video!

I like all of your suggestions, but especially like #3. Adding a more professional experience would be great. Your comparison to a Vegas experience is spot on. If a high end hobby box is being ripped why not make it a professional high end experience? Get rid of the terrible soundtracks and hosts thinking they are at an open mic night. I don’t see anything changing. The breaks are too popular and why change “a good thing”.

I did a video on thr hobbies act of 1973, and all it takes is one legislator who hates gambling or has a constituent who's kid lost money to amend the act to include breaks. In my state we've got now 5 lawsuits involving sports gambling, Fanatics and Fanduel. Sports has a horrible history with gambling to begin with, I don't see this being good for the average collector. I think it's always the collector who gets caught holding the bag.

When a kid buys a box (or an adult buys a box), they are guaranteed to receive the cards inside the box. When a kid (or an adult) buys into a break, they are guaranteed nothing.

Breaks have tapped into the young men gambling aspect. I watch Fanatics Live Breaks and people drop hundreds of dollars nightly and even thousands is common. Some guy dropped 4k on a couple Definitive spots in multiple breaks and ended up walking away with maybe $250-$300 of resale value. But what he said afterward was what caught me. He said "that's how the game is played" He is not a collector, not an card enthusiast. He is a gambler. The hobby has literally turned into an online sport book. Sad watching these guys putting themselves and in probably in more than a few cases thier families in major debt over a gambling problem that is being fed by breakers.

The root of this problem is the greedy monopolistic sports card corporations that strictly cater to the breaking businesses. Affordable hobby boxes = fewer breakers.🎉😅

A lot a times you really don’t find out how well a player will perform in the pros until they’re in the league for a while anyway. More than likely new product will drop in price before the real “hot rookie” even reveals itself. For all we know Tyson Bagent or someone is the next big star.

4:07 is the exact point that needs to drill down to the root of it all. If we can keep 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 yr olds OUT of Breaks - it would be a massive win.

Gambling under 18 is already illegal nationwide, (there's several states you only have to be 18 not 21) it would make more sense to start there and expand later.

Trump is yalls fault. Biden opened the floodgates to the border and oversaw record high inflation, and you guys ran entirely on abortion. I wouldnt sell the Bradys, TB is a legacy character whereas Mahomes is that new age, new money type of "GOAT", hes more fad like and i feel will fade quickly, actually it seems like hes slowly losing respect. No one will ever be Brady, you just had to be there. Mahomes may have the skill and stats, but TB had the era; it was jus different. Look at it this way, F14 Tomcat and F22 Raptor, equally badass, but now you tell me which one is more iconic?
