Gotta find what YOU like and enjoy and work from there. I couldn't care less about any of the shiny stuff like downtowns, kabooms and whatever other unnumbered garbage the hype bois are slamming slabs on tables for. Gimmie that HOFer, on card auto, game used early 2000's stuff from Topps and UD all day.

Gotta get the poop brown variation!!!! I am stuck in 1998 as far as cards go. As a fellow Manning collector,Mr jOSH is not a collector,he is a investor. I would consider my Manning collection as very respectable. Do i have shield cards or pmgs like Drake? Nope....i am a cheapskate, try to get everything as cheap as possible. I have many pop 1s and extremely hard to find cards. We all try to flex lol. Drake flashes his 24kt fleer Manning and i flex my pop 3 collectors edge preview bgs 10. A collector to me,is someone who knows what the card instantly without having to scan or look it up.

if you get into this to make $$ you’ve already failed.. 99% of people who buy retail cards will never see a profit,Same with hobby, Hobby has priced a lot of people out of the market. It’s a huge a gamble no doubt.. Breaks will eventually be regulated. I’m not one who wants government involved but they will be. there’s way to much $ on the table.. Feds don’t like missing out on that.

I used to collect pretty much just Jordan, pippen, shaq, and Glenn Robinson. I was at Purdue when big dog was there so give me a pass. At one point I started collecting Derrick rose Joakim Noah era bulls, and then rose got hurt over and over and it all just became a worthless source of pain. Changed my habits then to only buy teams and players I never wanted to forget: 16 cubs, 90s bulls, 84 cubs, 85 bears. But this summer I forgot my rules and bought lots of Pete crow ar,strong and Shota Imanaga. Very likely it will never be worth much more than it is now. I’m already going through it deciding what to sell. Apparently every ten years I have to learn my lesson. I’m thinking I may branch out from my Chicago champs to also include elite hall of famers. Finally, considering vintage because in general I like to collect, and at least it’s pretty well defined and I’m assuming, relatively stable.

I think a big part of the breaks thing is it turns everyone into flippers. Everyone then runs to ebay to make their money back to buy the cards they didn’t get, the market gets flooded with cards the recipient/seller never wanted, and the prices on the non-massive cards tank immediately.

It appears the when the economy gets rocky, precious metals and collectables like sports card prices go up. Also, as we age, we tend to buy things that we remember when wr were kids. As someone who hasn't opened a pack of Modern cards since 94, we weren't the one's making the money then and it really feels that the Modern side of the hobby keeps chasing it's financial tail with each new generation. The only difference is technology has changed but I feel that I've been here before 30 years ago. The one thing I enjoy about Modern, is that the big cards that I couldn't afford as a kid in the 80s are a lot cheaper now! I hate when people ask me what's my most valuable card. I get kinda paranoid I might get robbed. I I started a vintage collection because of the history, artwork, the ball players and collecting vintage kept my mind focused rather than doing drugs or drinking.

She scares me too. Even more hype than wembanyama. Will she wait to raise a family in five years? Will anyone still care in ten years? What if the WNBA goes away? I can’t do it. Unless it’s buy low sell high right now. But buy / hold on Clark or Wemby seems so risky.

If panini is going to add the 5 star freshman recruits to a college product then you could be right. They can’t go to the NFL for three years. There will be a time where people are digging on those cards. Once they get close to being drafted. Will be time to move them unless your a collector not worried about value

Here is a question to ask yourself. What happens with my collection when I die? This has shifted the way I buy cards. I’d rather buy heirloom cards or at least cards that would not take much effort to sell. I’m only 46 but I’d like for my kids to be proud of my collection someday and not look at it as a burden.

Personally, I can’t stand all the screaming and fake hype in breaks. I find it incredibly annoying and cringey. I def agree with all the people pointing out young kids are becoming obsessed with breaking and we need to regulate that somehow. My dad has been a gambling addict most of my adult life and it ruined his life and cost him his family. What should be a great hobby for young kids is now potentially hazardous.

I had a moment of clarity the other day when I got off of work and went to my local Walmart. I saw a 2022 Yu-Gi-Oh! collector tin for $15 that I knew had some pretty good promo cards inside. There was one card in particular that I wanted and I almost took the risk, but I decided to check eBay first. That particular card in a PSA 9 averages around only $25-30. I had to ask myself, "do you want to risk $15 on *maybe* getting the card you want, in raw form? Or, simply pay double and get that card guaranteed AND graded to boot?" I left the tin and went along about my day, and that graded card entered my watchlist. I understand the fun of gambling in cards, but there's also smarter ways to build your collection, if building your collection is more important to you than the risk of ripping wax.

The new stuff is absolute junk and the resale on singles is in the trash can. Breaking has ruined the hobby and i'm hoping congress makes breaking Gambling gambling, and you have to get a license and you must be 21 to participate in breaks. And they must have your Driver's license copy on hand. Every card that you win in the break is logged and sent to the federal government. So when we start the unrealized gains, they can tax you on the value of the card you have and if you sell it, you have to notify them And send. Them with the receipt and you are open to inspection at your home or card shop one time a year inspection by the I. R. S at any time. This is the. Only way we can cure part of our budget deficit. We can get it through the card business. There can be billions brought in. Love to see you. People get charged 50% for the value of their wimby auto that went up. I actually want to see people in the street hungry. Their were way too many people in the United States and greedy rich people. I want to see them broke destitute. Selling their wife for sex.
