We have Worx Landroid for about 3-years now with great success. It uses a boundary wire and mows daily a random pattern. So no clippings but also no bagger. The razor blades just take a sharpening stone every 40 hours and yearly dremel sharpening. Though this one does cut in a nice pattern at almost $3,000 the Landoid is 1/5th the price.

I mean, I hear you, 3k is not an "affordable" solution, but 3k is basically going to buy you any riding mower, so if you're picking between a riding mower and a robot mower, the robot mower actually has less effort involved. There are so many ways this could be improved. I appreciate the design, and I can see why they have gone with the omniwheel setup - but its more of a cost cut than it is simplifying anything and it will be the biggest problem with this being a truly 'automated' lawnmower. Those wheels will continually get jammed up and you'll come home to find it stuck in the middle of the lawn because of it. One 'simple' way I can think of in terms of making this more automated/less prone to needing human intervention is to add a rubber brush system much like in the catcher but on the front, that pushes sticks out of the way and to the sides. It wouldn't be costly to add and would improve chances of it not needing maintanence or getting stuck.

I've had my robot mower for about 6 years now. It covers 1200m2 easily, even though it did require a perimiter wire which took about 60 minutes to install, the price was under 1000 USD. Just like WIFI, a hard coded connection will always be superior. The perimiter wire with FM is simply.. pretty fool proof, and cheap.

Something you weren’t able to test is the grade limits for the mower. I wonder if it has issues with a lawn that is steeper and has a lot more dips and bumps. They're getting closer but still a long way from matching the value and efficiency of a robot home vacuum or robot pool vacuum (both of which I own and love). I expect sometime in the next 10-15 years I'll be buying a $1000ish robot mower that can mow and edge. I mean, how hard would it be to add a little string line trimmer to the front edge similar to the edge brush on a home vacuum? This GPS learning system to eliminate the need to bury a guide wire is a huge step in the right direction. Just a couple years ago the best robot mowers were basically as dumb as a first gen Roomba that just bounced around inside a guide wire pen at random hoping to eventually hit the whole lawn. Now they're using GPS, laser and camera guidance along with an algorithm to figure out the best way to mow the lawn in straight lines.

This is very cool and I've been watching this segment for some time. Where I wouldn't buy the first attempt by a company at making an outdoor robot, I still hope they do well. Specifically when I see my elderly (still care about grass lawn much? lol) neighbors struggle to mow twice a week. However, with a nearly $3000 price tag, it will still need to come down substantially. Roombas are about $200, and I'm not seeing the value in waterproofing and screwing a few razor blades on to justify the price. It's kind of like Tesla FSD...cool, but about 10x more expensive than I'm willing to pay to upkeep a yard in the first place. For reference, we went yesterday and spent $120 on LARGE cobble, and got nearly a ton. It covered an area about 5'x8'. For the price of this mower, we could just nuke the yard and be done with it, no more watering or mowing. Ideally, I'd like something like this to mow the couple little patches of grass we can keep alive without watering.

I know I'm being "that guy" but 8 inches =/= 400mm. It's 203mm according to Google. I knew as soon as I saw it, just thinking of a ruler (12 inches / 30 cm / 300mm on a ruler.) Either way, great video. Keep up the good work Zack!

Don't get too excited, is not the world first without a wire. There's Husqvarna, Segway which are on the market for some time already. Ardumower was quite the first.

The fact it comes with cameras and can see is good. We have a huge problem in my country of people running their lawnmower robots at night killing poor hedgehogs.

Huh, looks like a lightweight prototype version of the Luba, my Luba 2 mows my lawn reliable for about a year now, and even comes with the features he suggested, like mowing patterns.

One pole at the lawn center, put a leash on the mower, the other end on the pole, start the machine and relax. Saved you a few hubdred bucks

Mow the grass using a hand driven lawn mower and it is a very good exercise!

Those over engineered front wheels seems a bit excessive. 1 or 2 swivelling front wheels (like the ones on supermarket trolleys) are probably cheaper, less resistance (it always rolls in the right direction). Also less risk of debris getting stuck on them, causing them to lock up. What do you think?
@martylawson1638 Жыл бұрын
I totally agree, unless the front omni-wheels are driven. Then they will allow the mower to turn more precisely on bumpy terrain.

I guess this little battery powered mower would be good for really flat lawns, my yard is full of dips & divots plus it currently takes me about 45 minutes using my new lawn tractor. My front yard is not so big, but combined with the back & side yards, is quite large. Less than a quarter acre, but bigger than my neighbor’s yards.

That's one nice thing about razor blades on a 7" disk is it follower the conture of the ground.

I have a Mammotion Luba 1000 and live in American Fork UT. Maybe you would like to come over and do a short video on it. The luba seems to be better than the blade in several areas. Perhaps a comparison would give your subscribers some additional insight and options. Dave

I'd like a robot that picks up a multitude of fallen limbs, sticks, etc after storms. I'd need something bigger than that though. It's interesting to see where things are headed. Thank you.

Im an ex Landroid owner. Its extremely convenient but the issue is if you have a fence they can only cut the front or backyard not both. Thats the only negative thing besides price

So, I wonder how it handles hilly or rough terrain? In your video, when you said you were adjusting the deck height, it looked like it was about to topple over. A bumpy yard on a hill I suspect will make this thing fall over.

Just found a wireless robot lawn mower for $599, which is half the price or even less than this one. It’s currently running a Kickstarter campaign!

I would have recommended you use sweep attachment first on lawn looked like lots of small but to get stuck or damage blade

You can build one pretty cheap. I built a remote control snow plow bot, I could make it autonomous, but I like driving it.

I'm still enjoying mowing for now but in the future, if I get tired of mowing or if I don't have time every week to mow, then maybe I'll get something like this. How much is a professional mower to mow every week though?

The front wheel design is its Achilles heel. A literal front rake. Also, the flimsy blades appear less that robust.
@musk-eteer9898 Жыл бұрын
4:50 if you remove the side guards of the mower's deck would it get a bit wider cutting path, the side guards blocked at least half of the blades on each side and left some of the grass uncut between path.
