Hey Captain Drone! My name is Gage and I'm the customer support lead over at Rotor Riot. I'm so glad to hear that you really enjoyed the HD1-XR build you bought! I'd like to cover a couple quick notes I took while watching the video- The first is that yes, we don't worry as much for the presentation with the drone coming out of the box. Our reasoning is that they're freestyle drones, and they're made to be durable and bounce around when flying without issue, so being packed in with other hardware shouldn't be too bad. We pack it a little nicer for international packages that have to go overseas though, as those boxes can sometimes get a little more damaged during shipping. We are looking to get some foam fillers to put in the box around the arms / body to fit the frames, but our priority right now is just making sure all our builds are flying great out of the box. For the ESCs that you see on the arms, those are actually just "race wire", basically a flat strip to extend the length of the motor wires. By default, all the motors we offer in our store aren't long enough to reach from the 7in arms to the 4-in-1 ESC (under the FC), so we use that race wire to extend the length, and hopefully also help protect the wire on the off chance the propeller gets bent downwards and would have struck the motor wire. For the flight controller swap (the F4 vs the F7), that was a bit of a tough case we were put in. We recently had switched all of our builds over to the F7 flight controller and updated the listings, but after doing a LOT of testing with the new F7's we were using, we were getting a ton of vibrations when flying. We wanted to make sure the drone would fly as good as it can, so we did a quick swap over to the F4 FCs as those have been flying MUCH better with our HD1-XR frame and build. I've reached out to our warehouse manager, Tyler, to make sure we update all the listings as well, so thank you for pointing that out! And finally, while we don't include an instruction sheet directly in the box, you may have noticed on the one arm that there is a tag with 2 signatures on it. That's our builder, and our Quality Control tester. If that QC tester said "GH" on it, that was me! :) On the other side of that tag, we have a QR code, which should direct you to our starter guide for all digital drones we offer. I've posted the link below if you'd like to look it over. Overall, I loved the review and your thoughts on our builds! Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any future questions about our builds and I'd be glad to assist you! Hi Gage. This is Steve (AKA Captain Drone). Thanks for jumping in with the info. Right after I posted the video I took the tape off what I thought to be ESCs and saw the race wire (Duh!) and posted the correction in the video description. I was not aware the QR Code provided the info for beginners but now that I read the "super tiny faded" print, I see that it says "Please read the quick start guide by scanning the QR Code below"... how did I miss that :-) I understand the F4 & F7 issue and a suggestion might be that if you don't change the info on the website, then perhaps include the explanation in the box with the drone. Mine was built by "MM" and tested by what looks to be the letter "R". Overall I'm very happy with the performance of the drone & will use it in my summer RC Plane chase vids. Thanks Gage!

I bought their Skyliner 5” and honestly, for the money, I was disappointed in the packaging as well. Not to mention, no protection other than a slim piece of electrical tape around the motor wires. At least Iflight uses flat plastic tubes to protect motor wires from prop strikes and they cost less. To their credit, the frame is tough as nails, but the arms are very wide and they act like wings and makes the drone “floaty”, which might be what they were going for considering Le Dribs flying style. Great review though, the arms are massive!

The problem with super thick arms is that in a severe enough crash, if the arms doesn't break it torques on the fuselage and usually the bottom plate is the one that gives out. If like most quads your electronics are mounted to the bottom plate, then changing out an arm becomes a lot more preferable :D

Great review. I have zero experience in FPV. I tried building one 5 years ago, and failed , all the parts are in a bin. Then a couple months ago I found the Rotor Riot prebuilt starter kits. I bought the Le Drib 3in cinewoop starter kit. It was shipped to me in about 2 weeks. Like I said earlier, I have zero experience, and I could not get my kit to bind or even fly. I work all week, and only have the weekends to play around. I asked for help on the Facebook Rotor Riot community page ,and many people reached out to me, but Tyler from Rotor Riot saw my plea for help, and called me at home on a Saturday to get me flying. 10 mins later I was able to fly my drone. Rotor Riot customer service is awesome. I just purchased the Vision40. Hoping its here in about a week. They already sent me all the binding and flashing instructions. So this is a very daunting task for me, never flashed Betaflight, I don't even know what that means. If I did not believe rotor riot would help me through this binding process, I would not even bother. If I get my Vision40 and I'm flying it shortly after I get it, my next quad will be a 5inch Rotor Riot build, guarantied. Some people complain that their quads are a little overpriced, maybe for you guys that are electronics nerds, but for truck drivers like me, who don't have time tinker and solder and tune and troubleshoot and just want to fly, I more than happy to pay a couple extra bucks to have someone walk me through the process to get me flying, fast. Oh, And by the way, I have many hours on Velocidrone so I did not need a lot of time to learn to fly the real thing, sims to work for beginners.

Not that Capt Drone needs validation ..... Steve - you are so "right" about the HD1-XR7. I ordered one shortly after your review, and have flown it many times -- but, today was the first time I flew it with a 4S battery, IT FLIES SO MUCH BETTER ON 4S. I know it has "magic tuning" that makes automatic adjustments between 6S and 4S - but the change in maneuverability (nimbleness) was simply awesome. I assume it is the lighter weight of the 4S - but, whatever the reason -- CAPT DRONE's observations are GOLDEN!!!!!

SKYPATH DRONES. If you buy everything from ROTOR RIOT, then everything should be setup and bound together. If you buy everything separate on your own, then in your V2 goggles you have to go to the ABOUT screen and change the transmission so that it works with FPV drones, then shut down goggles and power back on and you'll be able to connect to the digital FPV Drone hobby. As for binding everything, it is super simple. You can watch my vid entitled FPV FOR BEGINNERS EPISODE 10 for pointers on binding and BETAFLIGHT switch setup.
@KOrnhOliO12 жыл бұрын
@@SkyPathProductions piece of cake 🍰 ! Plus, no way you have to buy a Rotor Riot drone. If I were you, I'd buy a very small drone or a whoop. There's a big learning curve for flying FPV. It takes quite a bit of practice. I've been flying FPV for over 6 years now, and I receive no gain depending on what you buy. So, if I were to start again, I'd go DJI digital and get the V2 goggles. I own them myself. Get the DJI upgraded foam, because they don't fit your face worth a damn! Upgraded foam does though! $15 - order it with your V2 Goggles, because the foam they come with is worthless! Seriously. I'd get a good FPV simulator (watch KZbin videos to choose one) and practice flying on the computer before flying a real FPV drone. It takes time to get the hang of it. Practice in Acro mode - that's fully manual mode. We all fly in that mode so we have complete control of the drone. Flying in any other mode and the automatic features try to help you out, but battle you for control. Plus, you can get bad habits from using those modes. After you get good in the simulator, flying in Acro mode, get yourself a whoop! Palm of the hand sized whoops are super fun to fly, and because they are so lightweight, they have very little inertia to damage themselves when you crash. Big bonus! Lol Just understand, you will crash constantly at first... So, having a drone that will not get damaged as easily is essential to not getting totally bummed out when you crash and break a larger drone... Making it not fly anymore, and you having to figure out how to fix it, when you are new to the hobby. And you will do that... We all have! You want your first experiences to be positive, right? 👍 So, less chance of breakage equals a more positive experience! And, whoops are probably the easiest to fly. Best to learn on. With the ducts, you can bump into a tree branch or a wall, and keep on going. Without ducts, you'll immediately crash. Notice I said wall?... That's because you can practice inside your house / apt. during the winter or when it's too darn hot in the heat of summer, or rainy. When you crash, and you will a lot, you'll hit the carpet, or crash from only a few feet up, leaving your almost always intact and ready to go again! Good experiences, right?! Lol 😉😎🤘 Next, I don't suggest you buy the DJI transmitter (remote). It's $300, most will report it to be only an ok transmitter, and it's very limiting. Not many features, and if you want to fly something besides a DJI based drone, you can't! If I were to start again, I'd probably buy the Radiomaster TX16S transmitter. So versatile, super popular and loved, reasonably priced at under $200, available on sale, and the DJI is always $300, and never on sale. Then, I'd get ELRS as my protocol (link) you fly with. Yes, it's the newest and greatest! Haven't got it myself yet, but looking hard at it. Heavily invested in Crossfire now. The best ELRS module, which pops into the back of that TX16S, is from Happymodel and it's about $38, is all! Cheap, but reliable, so many have said. Receivers are super inexpensive too! About $13 ! 👍 I got the lightest BNF digital whoop on the market - the BetaFPV 75X HD. It's very fun! It has a Naked Caddx Vista in it and the Nebula Nano V2 camera. Not the best camera, but don't fret, it's not the terrible V1 version, and the V2 improves image quality by 90%. It's 99% better than analog, so it's fine. I have a few of them and they work great...V2 only, not V1. That BetaFPV 75X HD only comes with the V2, and most all the V1 drones are sold out now. Great for flying inside and around your yard, or at your closest park. Super quiet and no one will complain = good experiences, right?! Lol 😉 I wouldn't buy a Rotor Riot drone. Too damn expensive and too big and too easy to get damaged when you crash, and we all crash a ton, especially when you are learning. Less weight equals less inertia, so less damage! It's all about learning on something durable, easy, and much less expensive. And that you can fly pretty much anywhere! That whoop might just end up being your favorite to fly even after you get 5 more drones! Whoops are a blast! My best buddy to fly with, and I, like the whoops and micro drones the best. We don't fly 4 inch and above because they are hard to find good places to fly because they need a ton of space, make a ton of noise, attracting complainers, and we don't think they are as fun to fly either. You can fly small drones almost anywhere! Easy fun! More durable. Best of luck! Happy New Year! 😎🤘 Feel free to reply if you have other questions...

If I had to guess they must have a dynamic profile for 4 & 6S with a larger motor output / throttle limit for 6S - that KV and 6S on 7" should really be insanity. That being said those motors are absolutely *tiny* for what most fly on 7". I really think that most people are running ~2806.5 or maybe 2507 for that size for optimal wind handling and overall performance. You do pay a weight and flight time penalty for that though, of course.

I fly 7 inch quads now exclusively, for freestyle, Cinema, and even flying at Drift Car racing events at speedways. They are fast, quiet, and stable. I think your R-Line battery is likely a 130c, whereas that GNB might have been lower. That difference, plus the extra weight, and the cold air may have affected that GNB negatively more than the R-Line. I fly R-Line 3.0 and 4.0 versions mostly now, because they don't sag like all of the other brands I try from time to time, and their behaviors are super reliably consistent in comparison. What would it take to allow this drone to have the same flight time as a DJI FPV with equal performance as the DJI drone?
@CAPTAINDRONE7982 жыл бұрын
Yikes? That would be impossible. You see the DJI FPV drone is not a true FPV drone, it is a hybrid between a camera drone & FPV drone. This is why it is fragile and has batteries that are crazy expensive. In the real FPV hobby, drones are made out of carbon fiber and you can use any battery you wish and any controller you wish and do things that are not possible with the DJI FPV drone, and the reverse is true for the DJI FPV drone…. With that drone you can do things that are not possible on a normal FPV hobby drone.

Just searched about them and got to know that I already watched one of their videos and they have the same number of subscribers as you have! 2,35,000- As of 29 Dec, 2021 This drone made by them is so cool and amazing, but the packaging is not so cool though. Flies perfectly and looks really beautiful!! The 3 bladed propellers looks so amazing on pretty much every drone... Also want DJI, Autel, Skydio to make those different 3,4,5,6 and more bladed propellers! It will look awesome on those stable gps camera drones and the noises they make will also be different from the classic 2 bladed propellers. Ottawa is a really beautiful and *cold* place. The fields are barren and one can easily fly those huge 7" or bigger FPV drones there without disturbing anyone as noone is there! Its surprising for me to see such barren fields as in Indian fields (we call fields 'maidan' here) there are more than a thousand people in a field of circumference of 3 Kilometres! That is why , it is difficult to fly FPV race drones at such low height here :( Looking forward to know about other drones made by them!

Which would you recommend - Rotor Riot HD1-XR7 or Chimera 7 Pro ?
@CAPTAINDRONE798 Жыл бұрын
Two very different items. The Rotor Riot quad is small in size compared to the iFlight Chimera.

Wow very nice. Was thinking about the DJI FPV. But damn that drone seems like more bang for your buck , especially since I fly analog 4s . The only thing holding me back is my 62 year old eye sight. I’d have to have lenses cut . Ug.

@CAPTAIN DRONE Think I might take the plung in the near future. Love FPVing my 5" Quadcopters but love the range and flight time of my Air2s. Wish DJI would link up the Goggles.

The components you called esc’s on the arms don’t look like any esc’s I’ve seen, there’s three wires of the same size in between them and the stack. Why would you use such a massive wire for a signal cable?
