Thanks for your research in these birthing topics. Sadly many young women will go into labour ignorant of so much helpful information.

I’m a student midwife and am so confused by why we do these examinations routinely when there is no evidence to support the term “expected progress of labour” anyway. Makes me wonder how many decisions are being made on “progress problems” when we have no evidence that even supports that idea or theory! I found this evidence whilst looking on my own and am here trying to find more info! Why do we still do these? And what can I do as a student to prevent malpractice?

They came from this white man called Freidman, called Freidman's curve. He evaluated dilation in labour of white women on their backs under pictocin. There is no reason other than systematic misygony and financial incentive. Unfortunately students are trained to believe it shows labor progress.

Seeing your comment is refreshing and gives me hope for midwives. My first child’s birth, the midwife forced me to be examined every single hour. She did nothing to help me with comfort or coping, but kept putting her fingers inside me to “check progress”, she also loomed a 24 timer over my head with every check. I needed with a very traumatic birth and a hospital transfer. In conclusion, seeing your basic logic here and concern…. Is just everything. ♥️

And where is the concern for victims of sexual assault??! Some women are affected dramatically by forced penetration from a stranger, and I would dispute, that all women should feel somewhat violated by it if they have not led a promiscuous lifestyle that desensitized them to intimate exposure.
