Are Sanwa Clamp Meters Any Good?

I tried out Sanwa's line of clamp meters and the quality rivals that of more expensive meters at nearly half the cost. There is a slight draw back though as the operating range is 0-40C rather than perhaps -10 and +10 more for more expensive ones. When buying clamp meters, you reduce the need to disconnect cables to measure in line. With this, you just open the clamp to measure to magnetic field passing through and the meter calculates the amount of current going through the wire. Use one of the additional accessories in order to avoid needing to split the cable.
Also note that the resistance only goes up to 400Ohm hence this meter is more tailored for working on car batteries or should be mainly used as a DC amps tester.

Sanwa is good company. With DC current you must use the ampere clamp on the positive cable to get an accurate measurement.

Mind explaining that? I haven't heard it must be clamped to positive before. The same current and magnetic field forms on all cables carrying the same current in the loop.

I really like the wire "splitter" adapter thing. But for my own home usage, I have not been convinced yet to go with an ampmeter over Watt Meters for tracking power consumption for household devices.

I'd say this type of meter is more for things with cables attached and not AC sockets where you can easily plug in a watt meter. The clamp meters can read faster and you can get finer precision in the readings.
