I used to throw them out when the retailers put stickers all over them. I appreciate it when they print the reversable covers with the original posters.

agreed, i dont mind slip covers but what dissapoints me sometime is when the slip cover picture, has the same picture as the actual cover once its removed, would be good if they used a different artwork for both
@vinylvictim4424Күн бұрын
I used to throw them away, too. Until I discovered alternate artwork sleeves, linticular sleeves, embossed or debossed sleeves, reservible sleeves, glossy sleeves, etc. But after all that, the primary reason I keep them now is the protection they provide from wear on the movie boxes due to sliding them in and out of the shelving units where they reside. So important for keeping the outside of your film boxes in tip top shape!

I used to toss them, but I think I was stupid for doing it. I keep my slipcovers now.

The only movies I've bought with slipcovers on them are 3-in-1 movies (three movies in one package, usually on two discs) or horror movies from the '60s or '70s. I've always kept the slipcovers because I keep all artwork that comes with a product, but I am certainly tempted to dump them when the artwork is the same.

I have a sickness when it comes to slips. If a movie I am debating about purchasing doesn’t have a slip but one exists or did exist in the past, I have a hard time wanting/buying it. Movies with slips all by the same label look so nice on the shelf. Unless I know I’m getting the slip, more than likely I’ll pass. It’s ridiculous but like I said, it’s a collector’s mindset that I can’t shake off!

Hey Joe!! Excellent video!!!! You have some great points. I look at the slip covers the same way I look at the long boxes of cds from 1980’s Back in the day I tossed them out BUT TODaY I look at the long boxes as art. Some of the slip cases really have a fancy look to them and some don’t but it is part of the packaging of the cd/blurey. So Yes keep it it sucks that they get damaged and catch every time the blurey or dvd goes and gets slid into the outside case but it is part of the package.

The fact that i've seen people on YT during shopping trips refusing to buy a movie b/c it doesn't have a slipcase, is all you need to know about them. They're not fans of films, they're just collecting to eventually resale it. Also Criterion collectors are worse, they buy to collect, not to watch. Often they admit, they've never unsealed them.
@RickHonks1Күн бұрын
I refer to them as 'bubblegum card collectors". They are definitely not fans of movies, although they will claim they are. I couldn't care less about slipcovers. It's just excess cardboard packaging and I throw them all away. I buy physical media because I collect MOVIES, not cardboard.

I suppose that slip covers help to protect the real cover inside. A good example would be that slip cover you have that arrived damaged. Maybe without it the plastic may have been cracked. I like that Abbott + Costello slip cover that opens to show some more pictures. Sure, some slip covers are too tight, and are a pain in the neck (or somewhere else, at the other end of the spinal column!) to get back on.
@anthonydiggle2926Күн бұрын
I am personally ambivalent towards slipcovers; If I don't get one with a new blu ray or 4K I have purchased, it doesn't worry me. And what I find bizarre is that on sights like Etsy, some sellers are selling custom made slipcovers for around $12. Seems an insane waste of money to me. But, if overall they are beneficial and helpful to the blu ray and 4K industry and help sales, I am very glad of their existence, even though I am not a big fan.
@thepirategamerboy12Күн бұрын
I keep them, to me they're part of the packaging if they came included originally and it'd feel wrong for me to throw them away because of that. It is annoying though when you get a Blu-Ray with a slipcover and it arrives all battered up in shipping, I had to return one movie like three times before I got a decent one.

I still have the attitude that it’s fine to throw out if it’s the same or it’s damaged. But I keep them when it’s different. I figure by getting rid of them I’m decreasing the annoyance you talk about and saving a tiny bit of space (maybe it equals a movie every 50 covers or something.

I'm completely neutral on the subject of slipcovers. They add something extra and nice to the packaging. But I don't seek out something just for the slipcover. I agree that it's cool when there's different art, but it's not a big factor for me. The only time I throw them out is if they're damaged. Thrift stores like Big Lots and Dollar Tree have a bad habit of adding price stickers in such a way that you can't help tearing the slipcovers to get to the film, so those I do dispose of. I like that A&C Meet Frank cover!
