I did get a 20 year Elite last year before the price increase knowing I would be moving this year. 20 years for 25 grand seemed okay to me, as I had the cash and overall living expenses would pay that back plus. There is no freaking way, though, that I would spend 25 grand on a 5 year visa! Glad I jumped on it when I did!

It didn't hurt my savings. At a bit over a grand a year, I'll make more than 100 grand up just in living expenses.

Complaining about the price, when there are less expensive options is like complaining you have to buy a Honda and others can afford a Lamborghini.

They should really extend the no tax to the Elite visa given the associated cost. I don't see why they would limit it to just the LTR

I think it's because the Elite Visa is technically a tourist visa, while the LTR is by the Board of Investment.

@@JettGunther sure. I understand the differences. But the Elite holders are by far the largest investors when it comes to tourists/expats, outside the retirement visa

If thialand really wanted revenue that would get rid of visas all together the money would flow like a river there economy would take off but there own greed gets in the way of progress

It is funny that these VISAs are so expensive when YT vids show condos for $150/month! Who will live in those condos, are they for Thai’s? They are built in tourist places so one assumes they are targeted at expats. There are of course very expensive ones with 180 deg ocean view so maybe they are the target?

Yeah, I'll just stick with the one year extension that I've done for 18 odd years.......sometimes seems like a pain in the ass but in reality if you have the money in the bank for 2 months B4 (married) or 3 months B4 (retirement)....then actually it's really just smooth sailing but you may have to spend several hours at immigration once a year! Even that has been made easier, at least here in chiang mai, with the ability to book your appointment online and spend maybe only an hour or two at immigration. Bottom line is that I always feel unease when approaching my yearly renewal.....but really I shouldn't because I have the cash in the bank and meet every other criteria and it's just a matter of queuing up !!!!

1) A KZbinr couple sold their property & moved from Thailand to Japan. 2) When the immigration officer told me to get the long term or Elite visa & I said it was so expensive, she smiled it off saying it's not expensive, "(Your country's) salary is higher than Thailand." . I was thinking, then she should move to my country, easily earn more since she can speak English. Lastly, she warned, "Working is prohibited". Frankly, work as what? 3) Even if I had that money, I would go to elsewhere. The reason why people go there, is because it's low cost. Once that's gone, there's no benefit.

Of all the things that Thailand should be focusing their attention on, retirees should not be it. Seems like they change taxes, immigration, insurance on a whim. Doesn’t really make much sense to pay that much for a long stay visa rather than a temporary one. What benefit is there to this other than avoiding long lines at the immigration office?

For retirees who do, or can, make $80,000 per year in unearned (not from work) income, I fail to see how a nonimmigrant O or OA visa is a better deal than the LTR visa. Yes, the LTR costs 50,000 ThB, but that's a lot less than the 800,000 ThB that has to be kept in a Thai bank account year after year. The 750,000 ThB difference is much better kept invested back in one's own country.

@@jeff5001 You don't have to keep all the 800k in a Thai bank account all year, and those on 'O' retirement extensions don't need to take out government approved health insurance, which those on an LTR do, which negates any financial saving.

@@John-G The 800,000 may not have to be there all year, but whatever is taken out has to be put back again.

@jeff5001 Well, yes, but most of us spend money here so transfer funds accordingly - maybe you don't. If the 800k is what worries you and you can't afford it, you can always just transfer 65k every month.

The retirement visa requires 80k RESIDUAL income. It has to be from property or interest or an other very narrow band of income it cannot be dividends from a company you invested in. I agree while the dust is settling it is hard to beat the 1 year renewable options.

Even if you qualify for the published LTR requirements (which I do), they still have "secret" unpublished requirements (Contractors are not permitted) which they use to reject applications. I have made several applications - their response is always the same (perm staff only). This directly contradicts Por. 2/2565 section 2.4.1 which states Contract for Services ARE acceptable. "ต้องแสดงสัญญาจ้างหรือสัญญาบริการกับกิจการในประเทศ " Just look at the BOI published metrics on successful LTR applicants - it's pitiful.

It seems that you were not applying for the Wealthy Pensioner (retirement) version of the LTR? You seem to be working as a contractor, not a retiree.
