Are the Class 375s the best Electrostars? - Southeastern Train Reviews Part 3

When someone mentions Southeastern, people either think of the Class 395s, the fastest domestic train in the UK, or the Class 465 with their epic sounding traction motors. But you don't often hear someone talk about the humble Class 375 Electrostars, the backbone of the Southeastern Mainline.
Do they top all other Electrostars? Wait and see, and if you're wondering why I prefer the 375 to the 377, wait for my 377 review after the 395

Something i want to know, why do 375/6s have pantographs when all routes they run on are third rail?

Because when they were being built they had an idea of using them /6's on thameslink core but obviously never went with it

Without wishing to spoil your 377 review too much, the 375s are considerably nicer than the 377/5s. The former's mid-life refurbishment is one of the best refurbishments any rolling stock has ever received and is holding rather well. The 377/5s however had no work done when they came to Southeastern, so retained a dull interior with tatty seats (and the middle 2 carriages have the poor 2+3 with mini tables layout and no armrests). As someone who lived in Maidstone for many years and experienced "the whole shabang", the order of preference for me is 465/466 > 375 > 377.

375s (apart from /9s) definitely have the comfiest seating out of the electrostars

So, when connex, ordered class 375, they had pantographs, had no first class and toilets, and when they were getting the coupling hooks changed, thats when the class 377 was born

Most class 375s have quiet horns and the /9s have the loudest horns

Personally, I find Electrostar air conditioning to be very unreliable. Especially on the 377s. The train is often very hot, and the air con seems not to work about 50% of the time. It is slightly less of an issue with 375s but very much still a thing. Javelins and 707s have much more reliable air con. Also, I can't remember the last time I went on a 375 that had an OK ride. All of them range from pretty poor to downright despicable in my experience

I occasionally get 375s that have good ride quality, but most of them are pretty bad

I disagree on the "reliability" of the AC. I've lived with Electrostars for my entire life, and none of them have had broken AC.
