Feeding my cows extra hay, places where cedar trees block the north wind. 20 degree days this week, teens at night. Mild for Wyoming, but extreme cold for north Texas. Extra cow crack, I mean cake, for the cows too. Should warm back to normal in about 10 days. Fighting the cold til then. Good luck Mike, you care for your animal so well. Thanks for educating us.

Been thinking about you all during this brutal cold. We have been ranching in -45 along with deep snow and ice for the past days and we are grateful that we are not calving in this! Our equipment has thankfully kept running but water lines, tanks and even our fresh spring fed pond have been frozen solid. This is just NOT FUN to be ranching in! Wishing you all the best for your ranch and critters. Stay safe friend!

The fibre being processed in the rumin helps as well. Our biggest problem is temps above 40°c. We are %100 pasture based so we usually run an irrigator over the ground they will be on for hot days

But, remember to make a million dollars on a Ranch/Farm you have to start with two million, work (hard) 24/7 and in general have no respect from city people; most think the food they eat comes from Walmart…

@@johnhugon8305 Understood and agreed, which is why I believe that the more city people can be exposed and made aware of the realities of ranching/farming, the better as they can appreciate all that goes in to it and have respect for the people who create our food.

I'm a farmer and substitute teacher in Wisconsin. We are at -18F and it's supposed to get colder than that for the weekend. Keeping the beef cattle warm in the calf barn. Also had a beef cow calve on Friday, February 12. Stay warm to all the farmers raising our food.

@@Simon-cv3qt he gets one paycheck a year selling cows, that's his primary income. They sell chickens, pigs and his wife does vegetables and sells merchandise, and meat through his online store and farm store. Yes he does KZbin for the revenue but also as advertising for all the previously mentioned products also but hes been fully transparent about that. Had you watched him in any length you would understand all this. He hasn't been dishonest in the least bit. I've watched him since near the beginning and hes stated all this in many of his videos over and over and over so I'm a little confused as to how you think hes being dishonest.

Great video! Very good info! We have a small 6 acre farm. We raise a lot of animals. We have Alpacas, Pygora goats, Mangalista pigs, 5 head of Cattle ( 3 are now 7 and 9 mos. old), Turkey's, Chickens, and Guineas. Plus we both work full time jobs. My day starts at 3:30am. They get fed hay twice a day, and every other day a very generous portion of my mix of different grains. My Chickens and Turkeys lay eggs all year long... yes I do get Turkey eggs in the winter... they are all healthy and have gained a lot of weight! When we bought them from different places... seemed they didn't feed them as much as they should have... we love all our animals! They do come first! The work is long and hard!!! But there is nothing more rewarding!!!

@7:40 On the ranch there is nothing worse than winter rain. With water, the hair loses all insulation properties and of course being wet has a chilling effect on its own. Then inevitably freezing cold set back in the next day and it is ice everywhere around the cow yard

Worked in a large slaughterhouse and you are so right about cows having longer hair in the winter. Was told that a winter cow hide easily weighed 150 #. It was real fun when overhead hide conveyor broke and before you know it had a couple dozen hides on floor. Took several guys on 10 foot ladders to place them back on conveyor belt. They would go into a huge salt tank for 24 hors then thru a defleshing machine to remove fat then stacked on pallets. Had a salesman ask me to get him a set of bull testicles so I got him a set. He only wanted the hide part but they would never cut them off brcause it devalues the price of hide. Find out that he wanted them to make a pen holder for his buddy. Pldase keep heahthy and warm. Thanks for another great vid.

Water, food, and windbreaks. As long they have sufficient of all the 3, they are tough animals. Their digestive system generates a LOT of heat for them, so really any munchies for them regardless of the quality of the hay is great during nasty stretches of weather.. Then its monitoring to make sure non get sick or something happening or they won't last long. Always great to see in the morning after feeding and looking at the herd, and just seeing the steam rising if they had a little snow or frost on their backs.

Yup that's pretty much it mike! about beef cows our beef cows hardly ever see inside of a barn only when it's extremely cold 10 or 19 degrees, with strong gusty winds of wind chill about teens or twentys degrees -0. And when there ganna have a baby, or just need to be work on for a day or two. Other than that they stay out. And i believe that horses have the same thing in common with beef cows long story short both my grandparents had horses theirs never seen inside a barn unless to keep them warm or to work on them other than that they produce long thick hair and had thick hides which is skin. Other than that good video.👍
