Yours is close to the top so I'm leaving this comment in hopes that it will help someone else when considering a g29 vs others or whether upgrading from the g29 is worth it. CONSIDER WHAT YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO PLAY. I am a Gran Turismo child that has converted to PC full time. No problem, the G29 I've been on since 2016 made the switch easy peasy. But I got to watching YT videos and then found a deal on an open box moza R3 on eBay.. and I "upgraded." My initial impression is that the hardware is indeed better, but the software and game support fucking sucks balls lol. I mostly just play PCars2 and gt3/gt4 Spec II in pcsx2 since retiring my ps4/gt7. I basically just mapped buttons in pcsx2 and off I went. PCars2 has a selection in the menus specifically for the g29. There is zero fuckery. As a former playstation kid, I don't want to research online and fuck with settings for 4 hours(as I have literally just done) to still not be able to race. I want to hit a couple buttons and game. That's the end of my rant, hopefully this helps someone else in the future.

You do know that if you buy the GT DD Pro wheelbase, you can attach any Fanatec wheel. You don’t have to buy the gt wheel. Just get the Ps5 comparable wheelbase and buy what wheel you want. Oh yeh it’s a bit costly but this is how I’m looking at it, for myself, I love sim racing and am happy to pour money into it. So £600 for gt dd pro 8Nm is going to last years and wil in the end be great value.
@HotSkorpion Жыл бұрын
For full price, not really. But it is often found at under 250€ new. And for that price, it's unbeatable. Also, this rhetoric that DD's are so cheap now that the Logi and T300 are just not worth it anymore is simply not true. You need to consider that DD bundles dont come with clutch pedals and rarely come with desk mounting clamps, so you'd need to buy those separately and have either a very sturdy desk or very rigid wheel stand. Mounting a DD to a normal ikea desk is just not a good idea. Also, a Fanatec shifter costs almost as much as an entire g29 on sale. And because of course noone in their right mind will pair a Logi shifter with a Fanatec or Moza R5, The cheapest acceptable option is a TH8A, and that is 150€ alone on that, maybe the new TH8S at 70€. So there's additional cost already. And remember that people that are looking at the level of a G29 or a T300 are usually looking for something to mount and dismount fairly easy, and for something that is RTR without much faffing about. So can we stop misleading people into DD's without looking at the bigger picture and not just the price tag of two completely different offers?

I'm currently still using one with my Playseat Challange seat. It's a great living room setup that you can build up and remove quickly. I also just bought the shifter and an adapter for the playseat to have a stick shift for older cars or rally racing. But after some hundred hours of playing Gran Turismo, F1, WRC etc. on the Playstation the belt slowly gets annoying. The rattling just doesn't feel good and the settings differ highly from game to game. It's perfectly finetuned for GT sport and GT7, but in other games it's really hard to find the right settings. So now I'm playing with the idea of upgrading to a DD wheel. The CSL DD seems an obvious choice, but I've heard that the build quality is even lower than on the G29. Than there is the TM TGT2, but shelling out 700€ for belt-driven system still feels odd. Than there is the new Logitech DD set, but it's again very expensive, but lacks the ability to swap out your wheel. Like havibg one for GT and one for F1 would be great for this pricerange. Moza seems interesting, but I haven't heard much of it yet and I don't know how the support on PS5 is for that. Any recommendations for a 700-ish price range?

I've recently gotten interested in sim racing again and I'm still running an ancient Logitech G27. Honestly, a lot of the G29/G920 is basically the same, even the newer Logitech H-shifter still works mostly and connects to the same port in the wheel base (I had to replace my old G27 shifter years back from a break). I think the main thing about this racing wheel is that it's just a really solid, affordable package in a lot regions where higher end sim racing equipment is just a bit too expensive. I've got my money dedicated to other hobbies so upgrading the wheel and/or pedals isn't a high priority, and I think for a lot of people who are new and unsure, or don't plan to invest as much time and money into this hobby, would get a lot out of the Logitech wheel.

I’m moving out of my parents house this summer and I’m getting a whole room to fill with game gear. So I’ll get a sim cockpit but they’re expensive so I’ll try to build my own one probably. This is because I also play allot of farming simulator and want a good place for the joystick I’m planning on buying.

First time getting a set up and the price is what really made me go with the g920 for $215. Ill definitely upgrade, but for being brand new to sim racing i couldnt justify spending $400-500
@nassozeebo8 ай бұрын
Will pick up a used one today. With a playseat challenge. Both for about $300. I will play on xbox, and maybe PC. An alternative was the moza r3 bundle, but that is listed in stores but there is no availability, where I live. It also costs $500. So a seat and decent quality wheel like this to get me started, seems reasonable. I can always resell it later, hopefully for about as much as I bought it. I will look at it as a free loan, if I decide to upgrade in the future. :) Or if I end up not getting into racing at all, and it just ends up gathering dust..

I got myself the Logitec G29. Look I don't know id I'm in a place to say if it is or is not worth it cause the other one I had was 50 Pounds and I had fun "Obviously because I did not know what was out there" And I'm having a blast! The wheel is INSANE WOOO

I've had my g920 since the summer of 2020 and it served me well. I only noticed its ware this time last year when the wheel itself started to feel quite loose and now I can easily move it up down side to side with minimal input. The pedals always felt meh but they got the job done. It's so damn loud and feels clunky and cheap as a result. Now I'm moving onto the Moza r12 dd, Moza GS GT wheel, and Fanatec’s CSL Elite Pedals and can't wait to compare my experience.

I am looking for a wheel for the new Forza Motorsport coming out in October. I used to have the official Xbox wheel back in the early days of Forza and absolutely loved it although it was definitely a toy at £69.99 including the pedals. Still managed to set #1 in the world times and won numerous TORA championships. Great memories. So, any upgrade on that wheel should be great. Currently considering G920 or maybe the fanatec CSL DD. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated

There is a Logitech G923 Trueforce - in 2023 is still best option...its 2020 market release. So i don't know what's bad about that series. Full set + special separate steel mount rack for it (instead of mount it on table every time) +H gearbox shifter is still cheaper than many analogs... What else do you need for AC,BeamNG, Automobilista 2?

So would everyone recommend this wheel and pedals for a first time buyer? I don't need absolute perfection. Just something nice to use with a Linux PC emulator setup.
@dragon2knight Жыл бұрын
No. With options like Cammus C5 and Fanatec lowering the prices on their DD wheelsets it's a complete waste of money to go for Logitech. Just don't. DD is now the only option as far as I'm concerned and you need to not fall for the trap of "start with (fill in the blank non DD wheel)"...you'll ALWAYS upgrade, always. Save your cash and do it right out of the gate. As always, awesome job Oscar!
@dirtinthebox32 Жыл бұрын
Yes!!! I agree wholeheartedly. By mid 2024, belt drives will be a thing of the past

@@dirtinthebox32 I actually like the T-300, had it for years actually. It's smooth enough and the different wheel options are pretty cool. But the price, like the price of the G29/923 hasn't dropped in years....they just aren't a good value anymore. DD has dropped to just about the same amount of money...no brainer IMHO.
@quintinholtkamp5939 Жыл бұрын
Personally i would say its worth the price but its a better pick to spend just a little bit more for the most basic cls dd setup

"Just a little more" is a slippery slope. That is the justification used by addicts. Look at Fanatec: basic DD and wheel is $450 here, then if you go DD 8 NM and a "slightly" better wheel, you're into $700 - nearly double the cost. That ignores the stupid mandatory extras you must buy such as the QR2, then a desk mount. $800. I don't care what anyone says - that is NOT "entry level".

Would advise downloading a LuT file for the G29 for use on PC cuts out the clipping and changes FFB to a Liner progression

That's only for games that utilize LUTs and why dl one from someone else's wheel instead of outputting your own?

Got mine almost brand new from a friend including the shifter and challenge playseat for 300 bucks. So 150 for the wheel + shkfter you could say. Money wise there is no better option, certainly as a beginner
@Wilayaat Жыл бұрын
Unfair comparison as the Moza & Fanatec cost considerably more. I bought the G920 + G Force Shifter on a sale. Added a pre-owned Playseat Challenge then spent £30 on three easy to do mods to make the shifter, brake pedal & wheel much better in feel & usability. Absolutely brilliant fun on ACC, WRC & Forza, addictive. Also, mine is almost completely silent, maybe a later batch with improved internals?

I guess I'm one of the only ones who has a g920 and absolutely hates it. The stiff brake pedal did nothing but annoy me until I got bored of pushing myself backwards and changed the clutch to be the brake, and these days the throttle just enjoys acting like I'm tapping the pedal when I come off it or doesn't always apply full throttle when I'm on it.

It will help with general reflexes. But unless you are playing a proper sim game, it probably won't benefit you much. I wouldn't get it for the sole purpose of practice driving.

I just picked up a G29 on Marketplace a few weeks ago and while I agree with most of your review the wheel I got does not making those clacking sounds with its force feedback. It’s very solid. I think your wheel has something wrong with it.

It can be a question of what wheels are compatible with what games. For example a T248 is not compatible with Project Cars 2 but the G920 is. So what modern wheel is compatible with Cars?

Almost professional, good production however I found myself becoming impatient with the length and frequency of the loud music with the moving camera shots of the product. You obviously try really hard to do well, and thought you might appreciate the knowing one little thing that could be improved in my opinion. Even dropping the music volume a bit during those segments would help, it's significantly louder than your narration.

Definitely was a good cheap starter wheel, but if you're serious about doing more sim racing long-term just get a DD. When I used my G920 I was afraid I would break it when I was using it. When I use my Moza R21 now, I gotta be careful about it not breaking parts of me.

Damn haha. Yeah DD wheels are dangerous I've seen people actually get injured because of crashes when using such wheels. So I think I'll get me a Thrustmaster T300 when I have the money for it

I want to get a cheap wheel for messing around in racing game (probably some old ones too) but the clicking noises I have heard during reviews just kill immersion for me. I'll probably (if I am going forward with it) end up with the "cheap" fanatec bundle, add a load-cell because I want a clutch and build from there.
