After 8 long years fighting the German occupation, King Mwezi Gisabo was ambushed then he ran into Mr Bihome's held of Cows, Bihome asked the King if he could allow him to swap with him clothes so he can mislead the Germans and their Men, the King's gave Bihome his clothes and Bihome runs off to be chased after and eventually killed. The Germans were shocked to hear Drums being played on other side of hills as symbol of the King's throan, he then took refuge to Gishora where he was hiding over 5 months before he signed the treaty of Kiganda to end war with the Germans. He thanked the family that hiden him and gave them 2 Cows named Ruciteme and Murimirwa"a biggest symbol" of highest honor. The family decided to slotter the cow nd use hides to make 2 Drums of the same names as the Cows that were slotted in memory of the king stay"Ikigabiro" Ruciteme and Murimirwa are 2 of 8 sacred Drums of Burundi monarch. They were played only on ceremonies "Karyenda"is the leading was played by the King once a year. Karyenda had a wife called Mukakaryenda" Mrs Karyenda "was a Virgin woman who's role was to keep polishing Karyenda with butter to stay shiny. Today the leading has vanished disappeared.. Many conspiracies around Karyenda. It s now represented by the leading drum in center bearing the Burundi flag as Symbol of the Nation like was Karyenda.

Thank you for the insight! Yes African drums are spiritual ..well the way the drummers beat the drum can connect the physical and the spiritual. Where I come from.. you have to be appointed as a drummer! You can just decide I want to be a drummer, they (elders) have to choose you!

Some of my people will be offended, but this is a very true statement. Ignorance is here, just like anywhere else in the world. But, i believe education, lack of exposure, hopeleness, and the way you were raised have a lot to do with it. Years ago, I visited some of my husbands family and childhood friends in Mississippi, and we were appalled to hear some of the misinformation, limited, and lack of knowledge regarding Africa, slave history, and Black American icons in history. However, his family in Harlem NY are extremely informed, well traveled, and connected.

I would not attempt to answer the question above. What I observe of these drummers is they are indeed in a category way above the usual. A GREAT BIG THANKS to the NOMADS.
