The Tory downfall began in the 1970's with Margaret Thatcher. She abondoned conservative thinking and embraced neoliberalism. The banks were set free of any codes of practice (hence the crash in 2007/2008). Privatisation ran riot with no controls ( causing the rivers and sea to be polluted with raw sewage for example ). The party never tried to take control again so failure was inevitable. Remeber Thatchers words, "There is no such thing as community just individuals"
