I think what so wrong with surgery today is that everyone is getting the EXACT same body. Everyone is wearing the EXACT make up routine, lace frontal, clothes. So their whole look is based on what society said is right. That’s not self love. That’s self hate

We need more of a spotlight on self care and wellbeing in the mainstream media instead of so much focus on outer beauty. The issue is that young women are consistently being fed images of 'perfect' women, and think that achieving a certain look and getting a certain amount of attention will lead to happiness. Taking care of your outer beauty is great, but once you get to a place where you can say that you really love yourself and generate confidence from within, it's way more gratifying in so many ways. Also, for many, fixing what's wrong inside is more challenging than that quick outer fix, and usually comes with age as we find ourselves.

I completely agree that the ‘Instagram era’ has contributed heavily to modern day beauty standards and has led to a rise in the number of people partaking in cosmetic surgery, in order to achieve the standard of ‘beauty’ perpetuated to them by their screens. In an ideal world, people would accept their natural state and be confident within themselves, all of which is a part of ones journey to self love. However, unfortunately we don’t live in an ideal world, and in the 21st century we have seen a rise in the number of image related mental health issues. Can we not argue that surgery fulfils it’s purpose as it meets the demands of an image obsessed population. If something about your appearance is affecting other aspects of your life, e.g. you guys mentioned how a mans sexual performance can be hindered by something such as hair loss, I correlated this to perhaps the man feeling less confident and insecure. Surely having the option to change what you are concerned about and in turn enhance other aspects of your life, is not entirely a bad thing. I appreciate that it’s not just as simple as ‘fixing’ something your insecure about, but if this is going to help someone on their journey to self love, should we be condemning surgery?
@nadiyahshah68655 жыл бұрын
Agreed! If an individual feels that having cosmetic surgery will genuinely have a positive impact on other aspects of their life e.g. self confidence and the decision is not based wholly on image or other peoples perception of them, then I can appreciate their reasoning. However, simply getting work done in an attempt to ‘keep up with the Joneses’, will only lead to temporary self security as trends that formulate modern day standards and definitions of beauty are constantly evolving. Which means that striving for the so called socially constructed version of ‘perfection’ is effectively a game that can’t be won.

Self love is complex. It is not just about looks. It is the mindset that in some cases yes reflects their appearance but why it is complex is because in some cases some may not have knowledge of certain things. Self love has the term SELF in it for a reason. Self is not only what we were born with. It is what you have built over the years you have been alive. A natural can promote self love, and people who want to love their natural will stan her. And if a modified wants to promote self love, she can too, and the person she has built herself into will inspire another. What I do not understand is, you men, as men, are sitting around here trying to tell women what to do and what to not, how you like it and how you don't, what you find attractive and what you don't, but honest to God, this is a genuine question, did we ever ask?
@ayeshaseidbirru86335 жыл бұрын
@@RM_BURNER I agree with your take to a certain extent, but the very core of self love is to love oneself first, no? The core idea is to feel comfortable in your own skin. And if you don't feel beautiful in what you already have, and you have the choice of becoming what you want, then you are most likely to take that chance and become it. The very men who speak about not liking plastic surgery and societal depictions of "beautiful" tend to be the same men who chase after them. The hypocrisy is that these men also put their own bodies through extreme diets and gym to look buff and more attractive to women, but since that is "natural", there is no need calling it out as an insecurity.

True Self love can be found in the constructive critiques, commitment to self improvement/self mastery and the positive reinforcements we give oneself!! Not in the delusion that manifests today... You are not promoting self love by prancing about in your undies online, with half ya ass out talm' bout some stretch marks we did not even notice!! Self love is about empowerment, and social media plays no role in this EVER!! Your mirror is where the work is done, in your mind is where its at!! Another example; If you are obese, out of shape or simply have excess fat, self love is not deluding yourself that society is the problem and that people need to stop "Fat shaming" which is not a thing but rather educating ( empowering ) yourself on basic laws of human biology, some of which are as follows.... Eating in a Caloric deficit ( gym or no gym ) = weight loss, Eating in a caloric surplus + a sedentary lifestyle = Obesity, period!! Not making excuses, Taking learned information and applying it, setting goals and attaining them, Taking responsibility is self love.... Those who use Social Media ( Myself included, albeit not for an entire year now ) Are ALL by default seeking validation of some sort, this is directly counter-intuitive to the ideals of self love.
