Pipe smoking is healthy for others. For instance my mother in law won't come around me when I smoke a pipe.This could prevent me from harming her :)

I was born with what they called back then gastritis. It is multi ulcers in the throat and mouth by the 100's. They come and it takes about 6 weeks for them to go away then in 3 to 4 months I get them again. I can't eat, have to drink thru a straw, water only. I have been hospitalized many times. When I was in the service back in the early 60's I was in Germany. One day I had a mouthful of ulcers, unable to talk. I walk up on a hill outside the camp and there was a small convenient type store. This man noticed my condition instantly and asked me if I smoke. I said no. He introduced me to pipe smoking. He gave me two nice pipes and a pound of tobacco. After smoking two pipes full of tobacco the pain was gone completely and in 3 days the ulcers were gone. I smoke my pipe I never have the ulcers, I quit for a month and they come back. So I have always smoked my pipe for this reason.

I'm a pipe and cigar smoker. Health benefits vs potential damage is all a matter of balance. The smoking activity itself/controlled breathing is relaxing. Nicotine in lower dosage is known to be relaxing agent as well. The aroma and flavours are pleasant, and when you enjoy your body and brain release hormones that make only good to your health. Our body is built to deal with poisonous substances that we may be exposed to with little or no damage. This is why we have a liver. But then again, it is up to a certain limit which after we may die or get seriously ill. So if we keep the right balance and smoke moderately, we can enjoy this hobby and still be healthy.

Guy, you did it again! I suffered 10 years ago from panic attacks. So weird thing! However, I started to made breath exercises thru mindfulness and meditation. Just like smoking a pipe. Well, to be fair, this explanation would be fitting for a lot of hobbies. We all want to hammer stress down. Be it smoking a pipe, a cigar, playing videogames, working out, we all got our ways and there is always somebody that feels strongly against. Live life, be mindful of those around you and keep going.

It’s a shame that cigarettes have likely permanently tarnished the age old pastime of pipe smoking. Aside from not inhaling like a cigarette, pipe tobacco doesn’t have the four thousand plus chemicals that coat a cig.
@NGC61446 жыл бұрын
Cigarettes don't have that many additives. That's a reference to chemical constituents that make up tobacco itself and/or are transformed into smoke by being burned along with being conflated with a master list of industry ingredients. So, in that sense pipe tobacco is just as bad.
@PreachermanPiper6 жыл бұрын
Exactly right.
@MuttnchopPiper6 жыл бұрын
Tom Sawyer Piper - the chemical in cigarettes that concern me the most is the one that enhances the addiction part of cigarette smoking, pipe smokers don’t have that problem, thanks for your comment. 👍👍👍
@tworiversfolk9236 жыл бұрын
NGC6144 Cigarette companies typically add chemicals to enhance the nic hit, and addiction. Not to mention the ones used are poisinous to humans. Forementioned companies have been known to hide the added ingredients and claim its plain tobacco
@NGC61446 жыл бұрын
Kiri Kili The only chemical(s) I'm aware that the industry use for what they call "impact boosting" is some form of ammonia(i'.g. ammonia acetate) that freebases the nicotine. Actually, despite all the additives and manipulation most commercial cigs have less nicotine than a 100% natural whole leaf cigs and and depending on the blend technically less harmful chemicals like carcinogens that nevertheless doesn't make them less harmful. A lot of this cigarette manipulation by the industry isn't to produce super nicotine cigs because that could be accomplished by adding high amounts of natural high nicotine air cured leaf which would be unpleasant. They play around with the filler composition to yes, provide a certain dosage of nicotine while lowering other parameters like tar, CO2, etc. for marketing purposes.

There is something unique about pipe tobacco. It smells pleasant, and the aroma alone is calming. I have a big problem with uncontrollable anxiety. About ten months ago, I started with the pipe. My great grandfather smoked a pipe, my grandfather smoked a pipe, and my Dad smokes a pipe. Concerned about the cancer causing TSNA in combusted tobacco, I switched to vaping. It didn't agree with me. I tried dipping swedish snus. It's hard to get used to, and it makes my teeth hurt. However, the pipe is by far the most pleasant. For the time being, I'll stick with the pipe. It does calm, partly the aroma and mild flavors, the act of focusing on the breathing rhythm needed to keep it lit, and the nicotine all play a part. I also like cleaning the pipe afterward. I suppose it is meditative in a way. We can't live forever, so we might as well try to enjoy things that make us happy while we are on this earth.

Sometimes I suck on the end of my pipe with nothing in it, because I like the taste that is still coming through into my mouth. Tobacco is a sacred plant to many indigenous cultures and also to me. Great! Chris, I think you're completely right to believe in your own opinions. Of course we should trust science as well, but nowadays we believe in Science in a blind way, in an absolute "third person point of view" and completely forget to feel by ourselves. As human, we need to feel life, to be truly alive, to "be in the world". Lately, many scientific studies have narrowed the approach to life, in my sense. health not comes solely from the body. We have to considerate our mental, emotional and spiritual feelings. Smoking a pipe makes great connections to this important part of our health. We contemplate, we think, calm down, we feel life. The existen harm to our body might be minor, in a balance. Congratulations for one more wonderful vídeo! Greatings from Brazil!

I strongly agree with you. Generally, I think what makes me calm down, is the consequent attention paid to a certain activity - like pipe smoking or praying the hours prayer. In both cases, when I am into it, I do it in a contemplative, rhythmical way where breathing is very important, and I feel very present. So breathing is the way ...

In the four months since I began pipe smoking, and kept it up around 2-4 days a week, I have noticed that my medication side-effects were resolved without the beta-blocker, so I now have one less pill to worry about thanks to pipe smoking. Thank you for helping me discover how enjoyable and beneficial of a hobby pipe smoking is. I might have given up and returned to *cough* cigars *cough* if it hadn't been for your channel.

Raymond Lisle - Thats great to hear my friend, I take 4 pills for various conditions, and if I could stop taking one because of pipe smoking, I would love that. 👍👍👍

I don't have the reference in front of me, but I read that according to the Surgeon General, pipe smokers, as opposed to cigarette smokers, live an average of two to three years longer than the run of the American population. The pipe soothes in a way that the cigarette does not, and a calm mind is more conducive to longevity than mental turmoil.

Thank you for your videos. I finally got a 30 min one light smoke! ! I smoked it walking, feel very relaxed, more than just from walking. I was recently in the hospital because of a burst appendix followed the next week with a 2nd surgery for a bowl obstruction- it’s been a couple weeks and I’ve been getting cold sweats at night, I’m assuming from withdrawals because of all of the pain killers. I’m starting to imagine smoking a bowl in the middle of the night to get rid of the anxiety so i can sleep - it sucks waking up sweaty and having to change my clothes!

Thank you for very educational video. I am an OTR, over road truck driver, smoking my pipe relaxes me when people cut me off, traffic. I really appreciate you're videos. Also what is you're opinion of Seattle pipe club's Mississippi river. I value you're opinion.

Brian Gleason - First Off Thank you for your kind words my friend, second thank you for being a Truck Driver, if it weren’t for people like you our lives would be far more difficult, let’s just see what would happen if truckers stayed off the road for a week, everything depends on the deliveries you provide, and again I thank you for that. Seattle Pipe Clubs Mississippi River is a good tobacco, but after smoking Plum pudding I feel it’s a little bland, I don’t get a lot of flavor from it, I still like it, and smoke it from time to time, but Plum Pudding is my favorite tobacco of theirs. 👍👍👍

Hi Chris, Wonderful seeing you. I find piping relaxing, Bet the writer is type when your smoking and they pass you walking they cough like they are breathing the emissions directly above a smoke stak and say nasty thing's with dirty looks. Even kid's act this way, I've put many in their place. Everything in moderation is smart. Best Regard's

Mark Stengel - Yes, I have gotten those dirty looks before as well, but I have also gotten smiles, and comments like “You don’t see that much anymore” I like the latter reaction better.

Tonight I set a chair out on my back porch, lit up a nice briar with a subtle cherry and dark chocolate tobacco. I sat down and looked around at the silent snow covered neighborhood. My pit bull puppy hops up on my lap for some love and I thought in that moment...I am content. A lot can weigh on a man's mind. His status in life, his responsibilities, his hopes and dreams, his career, his job, his family. The decisions he has made or the ones he needs to make. Sometimes it's just nice to sit down, pet a dog, savor the taste of something that brings comfort, and enjoy a moment because what's the point of living longer if we waste so many of these moments.

Hello, dear Muttnchop! I'm your big fan from Russia :) I have a question about tobacco cellaring. I heard that straight virginia tobacco can store forever and only get better. How long can latakia blends be stored? And what about aromatics? P.S. Thanks for your vids! It is really unique, authentic, heartwarming content and I see you as a very wise, sincere, genteel person.
@MuttnchopPiper6 жыл бұрын
Art Ko - First of all, let me say thank you so much for your kind words, now as far as cellaring tobacco goes, potentially you can store any blend indefinitely, Virginia’s do the best since they have more sugar then the other blend types that goes through a type of fermentation process the longer it ages which sweetens, and enhances the flavor of the blend. Latakia will intensify in taste after aging, Aromatic tobacco’s do not age well, because the toppings that are used will freeze the aging process, I would say you can age it for about 2 years to let the toping soak into the leaf, but it needs to be smoked soon after that. I usually age my tobacco’s for 5 to 10 years, then start smoking them. 👍👍👍

For me I never was about being safe, but in my opinion all (maybe not all but most) things worth doing and that bring enjoyment and fulfillment damage your health and shorten your life in one way or another. Lets start with the classic ones: alcohol (in truth I almost never drink alcohol but I get it), smoking, and food, all of those without moderation are bad, and can you honestly tell me people with morbid obesity are healthier than a smoker? Nah it's about moderation and knowing the risks, sure eating those sweets isn't good for me but I'm getting enjoyment out of them, same with drinking with friends or smoking a pipe. As a side note smoking a pipe is like drinking a good whiskey or wine and smoking cigarettes is like being alcoholic drinking the lowest price thing you could find, one is okay and the other is a chronic disease. Even stuff like sports, taking a vacation (sunbathing increases your risk of skin cancer), or even sitting at home trying to preserve your body to the grave isn't good. So in my opinion, if you can stop when you want (are not addicted to nicotine) and are aware of the risks if you enjoy it then do it. I stopped smoking cigarettes (started vaping then stopped with that and switched to snus and finally a few months ago got rid of my addiction completely) not because I was worried about my health, nor about money but because I was just tired being a slave to my addiction, always needing to carry it with me, doing it the first thing in the morning, feeling like s* when I didn't or couldn't get my fix. Now I've limited myself to one bowl a day (and there are weeks when i don't smoke at all) and I can honestly say I enjoy it much more, look forward to it and when I'm with someone or driving/working etc. I don't need to get my fix.

I haven't smoked a pipe in over a year. And guess what, I'm stressed, I now have come down with heart problems out of now where. Blood pressure went through the roof. My doctor said i had to quit and this happens after i do. I'm about tempted to start smoking a pipe again.

How I see pipe smoking is that I'd rather take the risk with smoking, rather than live life not enjoying it to the fullest. I've also found recently its helped pull me through hard times
@MuttnchopPiper6 жыл бұрын
kiri kili - Well said my friend, I bet if you looked, there is some study some doctor somewhere has done that chronicles the danger of everything, I.e. water, food, air, exercise, not exercising, so what should we do just sit in a chair in an empty climate controlled room being fed food intravenously. No, I’ll enjoy my life, and if death claims me sooner then later, so be it, at least I had fun. 👍👍👍

2:00 Chronic stress as described is just a nicotine addiction to me. I'm a smoker since 25 years and I alredy feel shortness of breath under effort. All males in my family were smokers and have been killed by tobacco in the age from 60 to 73 years old. Good luck with that.

I don't know if I'll ever develop cancer from pipe smoking -- hopefully not. I don't smoke that much, just one bowl a day on the average, and live quite healthy otherwise. Plus, cancer doesn't run in my family. Never has, for generations. What I do know for sure, on the other hand, is that I'd have had at least one heart attack yet if it weren't for the relaxing effects of smoking my pipe in the evening...! So, like you, I will continue.

It really depends on your mindset towards smoking. For example i am dealing with depression/shadow work in a non-coping way, with meditation/frequency music by being present and questioning what is bothering me. To release whatever emotion that was stored up. Sometimes if i do find myself being stuck i light up my pipe with an herbs. I smoke mugwort/blue lotus and it works like magic, even if it does draw out my inner fears. Everything you feel is temporary, just allowing the storm to pass through without resistance. If I want to smoke, i would do it while i am already Zen. (Not because i want to cope with what is bothering me internally. I simply want to enjoy the moment alone with my pipe without any disturbances)

Stress is mostly caused by worry and fear of uncertainty so anything that can slow down the “monkey brain” , is a nice welcome. Pipe smoking does that for many people. I believe that the focus on breathing during pipe smoking helps one stay present.

I went to counseling several years back and when the counselor found out what I experienced in the military (I think I traumatized her.); asked me what I did to relieve the stress and I said, "Nothing, I just suck it up". She went into length telling me how dangerous holding stress in could harm me from everything you said to possibly effecting my Parkinson's Disease. I know that smoking a pipe helps me with my Parkinson's. I have also seen articles about it helping thin your blood. Muttnchop, have you seen the report presented to the Seattle Pipe Club in 2002?
@MuttnchopPiper6 жыл бұрын
The Pacific Northwest Pipe Smoker - Yes, I love that report, but with everything that comes out positive with pipe smoking, there are those that say everything from the Scientists were paid off to come to their conclusions, or it’s a fake report. Why do people always believe the bad things about something, but are always suspicious of the good things?😏😏😏

Can I make a video suggestion? Can you do a 45 minute video of you just smoking and pipe and not saying a whole lot? I know myself and a lot of people smoke our pipes while watching your videos (especially during blend club) if you had a videotape of just you smoking a pipe your viewers can feel like they are smoking a pipe with you. Anyway I think I'd be cool to have a "virtual mantle" with you :) Just a thought. It'd be fun if you just chimed in every now and again but mostly just smoking a pipe with your fans :)
