@@rommdan2716 I mean, it depends on how much kinetic force their telekinetic push impacts with. I'm sure one of your scientist types could figure out the maths but I'd just go ahead and say maybe? Although with force pull or force grab, you could just hold a shield with the force, like The Ganner did with the senate roof plates against the yuuzang vong. Ya know and just block all the shots that way. Really you can do just about anything with telekinesis, it just depends on how strong it is. You could theoretically compress an object into a finite point using telekinetic compression (making a super dense projectile). Or create plasma by agitating atoms inside a telekinetic pocket under intense pressure. It really just depends. Actually had a story written once that pitted genetic super beings against extremely powerful psychics. The super beings could alter their DNA to make instant changes on the fly, like creating diamond skin or could run super fast. The psychics manipulated telekinetic fields to create telekinetic "armor" or could "run" super fast, using telekinetic pushes off the ground. Or telekinetic punches. Never finished it but it was a fun idea to play around with.

Its basically just a normal blaster except with a railgun in the barrel. They also arent plasma weapons since plasma weapons are Star Wars are kinda rare. That would depend a lot on the type of shot being used as well as the range they're being shot at. 00 buckshot doesn't have all that many pellet in a shell, about 8 or 9 with birdshot having a more (but smaller) pellets. At realtivley close range, the shot pattern would tight enoug that a Jedi could (theoretically) swing their lightswber in an arc in front of them and catch all of the shot coming at them. What could be potentially be nasty for a Jeid would be a solid sslug made from a highly heat resistant metal of some sort. Something thgat could withstand going through the heat of a lightsaber blade more or less intact. Anyobdy, don't mention a Jeid, would be having a very bad day after being hit by a shotgun slug.

@@Riceball01 I dont think a jedi has the capacity to parry all 6 or 8 buckshot and it doenst have to be a lead projectile it could be a blaster shotgun, and if it is lead or some kind of metal and a jedi parry the projectiles then you have melted lead or metal coming out of the other end of the saber, burning and making some damage to the saber user. My favorite "shotgun" from the SW universe is the Deck Sweeper Stunning Blaster made by Merr-Sonn Munitions from the old West End Star Wars RPG system. The Deck Sweeper could only fire on stun, no lethal setting, and fired a 45 degree arc of blaster energy out to 10 meters. Really cool video Eck. Not sure if you're aware, but in EA Battlefront 2015 there's a starcard called the "Scatter Gun" - same design as the Trandoshan Shotgun from RC - which goes through shields (though I would guess that the shield-penetrating bit is just for gameplay - and it worked real well imo). In that same game there's also what I would call a scatter blaster in the form of the EE-4 which fires bursts of condensed blaster bolts simultaneously like a shotgun, rather than one after another like a traditional burst weapon. Lastly, in EA Battlefront 2 (2017), there's the "Vanguard" Assault class ability (same model as the BF2015 "Scatter Gun") which functions as a pump-action shotgun. It also has a variant that fires a single solid slug rather than an array of pellets.

In the Outer Rim, where agriculture and barter trade are the mainstays, projectile weapons would give a resourceful character the opportunity to make their own explosive propellant and ammo out of basic farming chemicals and home-cast metal scrap - of which planets like Tatooine and Jaaku had plenty... instead of finding that 'Space Apple Weapons Corp' has changed the power couplings on blaster packs and they don't fit older models anymore. Plus, if shielding primarily works on the basis of frequency disruption - to repel energy weapons, a projectile - which has no electrical / electronic frequency could really spoil someone's day.
@sim.frischh97813 жыл бұрын
All you need to do is take several blaster pistols, bundle them together and link them to a single central body with handle and trigger, then... you have a bundle gun. Not sure if that would be practical, but the weapon Queen Amidala uses, the ELG-3A, had a very slim barrel, so there might be a way. I would go for a 6 or 7 barrel version as that number can easily get bundled together, a main body with maybe a foregrip and even some nice furniture and a stock with either an integrated grip or a pistol grip version, like the Mossberg shotguns offer.

A good video and an interesting topic. You know the biggest problem in a universe that doesn't have shotguns? It means that no-one can ride shotgun. I have an idea though about the practicalities of an scatter gun energy weapon. Blaster weapons fire what seems to be a bolt of superheated plasma contained in a magnetic jacket. The problem is that if you've got a shotgun firing a dozen of these bolts, you'll need a barrel and mechanism for each bolt you want in that shot. That's going to get heavy quickly. At least, that's what my brain thinks. The magnetic jacket is there to contain the plasma but it dissipates over time and the bolt expands until it just dissipates and stops being a bolt. So what if you changed the magnetic jacket? I think if you changed the magnetic jacket, changed the strength or frequency or something that makes some sense in universe, you could change the way the bolt dissipates and range it dissipates at. With this, you could turn the blaster from firing a bolt of death to firing a cone of death, like changing a shotgun from using solid slugs to birdshot.
@mrbuttocks67723 жыл бұрын
I'd say a 'splash' type blaster projectile could count. Like the 'bolt' comes out like a blob, and upon contact with anything it basically explodes and showers whatever is within the effective radius with lots of heat and plasma.

I figure plasma weapons like blasters would've worked like shotguns. I mean, as the field holding plasma together it'd dissipate, probably replicating both the spread of shot and the fall-off in efficacy at longer ranges.

I'm surprised lang, the mercenary in the mandalorian episode "the jedi" wasn't mentioned, as his blaster seemed to be like a shotgun that fire multiple lasers per shot

in the Ahsoka Survival 2 episode arc of the clone wars at the end of season 3 we see a slug thrower shotgun/energy shotgun being used twice, by the trandoshan dropship pilot and by one of the trandoshans on the Fortress

Chewie uses a blaster shotgun in Solo and the one from Commando came back in BF2 but as a slugthrower. Anyway, I highly recommend everybody to check out Wookieepedia for more about this topic, it's really interesting!

A place where you would want massive damage in a tiny place would be during boarding actions of ships or anywhere where you're going to see hallway fighting.

West end games pirates and privateers had a weapon called a "decksweeper" iirc. Came in stun and blaster variants. Shot an energy cone out at a 45 degree angle with a very short range, 10 meters maybe? Wish i still had that book. Loaned it to a cousin, never got it back.

another reason why blasters are preferred over projectile weapons is that they weigh less, which also has to do with ammunition. An energy pack for a blaster can provide several hundred shots iirc, while the capacity of a bullet magazine is very small compared to that, while also being several times heavier

the jedi knight games use flachette guns, there is also mention of them in the star wars d20 rpg books, the description makes them sound very close to shotguns, though the weapon itself has a much larger body

Another thing to consider is that armour in Star Wars is meant to protect against blasters mainly; they try to absorb the thermal energy so you don't melt. Slug throwers have the advantage of having a lot of kinetic energy and while Star Wars armours are very tuff, something like storm trooper's armour wouldn't break, it also wouldn't absorb the energy well. My point being that if you shot a storm trooper in the head with a slug thrower the armour would be fine but the squishy face, and brain, of the trooper inside would be badly damaged.

I really like the idea of slugthrowers being prevalent on the Outer Rim and the Unknown Regions, with various settlements and outlaw factions producing their own and selling on the grey market. It also firs with the survivalist mentality of the Mandalorians, weapons that modern scanners can't pick up, weapons that can be silenced, and weapons that are easier to repair and reload. So yes, shotguns definitely fit within that frame.

I was re-watching your video on railguns #askeck and I realized another reason has recently been added to canon that didn't exist when you did the video. It ties into the great disaster of the high republic era. Any railguns rounds that missed a target would continue moving through space at 2/3 the speed of light until they eventually hit something. Instead of having great "a" great disaster you would have thousands of them every year as hypervelocity rounds from battles thousands of years ago would be flying through space smacking into things with catastrophic results.

One thing I think shotguns (and other slug-throwers to a lesser extent) have over blasters is versatility. If you look at the available shells that shotguns can use today and consider that with the tech from the star wars universe you can make slug-throwers dispense a variety of damage without having to change the weapon system or muck around with your weapon internals in the middle of battle.

My belief was that the spread is the big plus to shotguns, since blasters can be deflected (being a single beam) but the multiple pellets of a shotgun means some if not most will get through. Albeit shotguns refered to as slugthrowers implies they just launch a single slug projectile, so that idea of spread doesnt apply. Multi beam blasters seem like the best of both worlds

You didn't mention Michael Biehn's character, Lang the merc, from 'The Mandalorian'. He uses a plasma scatter-blaster straight outta Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (maybe a Dahl one with a Tediore barrel). In the words of Torgue Flexington, "Laser shotguns! You're welcome!" Except in Star Wars, it's plasma. There's also the flechette cannon from Star Wars: Dark Forces. The flechette cannon and the "grenade" launcher element (technically a radiation glob) of the heavy blaster were perfect for usurping the defenses of Force-users. 1:53 Could be a "magazine" tube that holds battery packs... 5:42 ...I stand corrected.

I fired a shotgun for the first time a few weeks ago and the range had a tactical shotgun for sale that actually looked like some type of Star Wars blaster.
